Sonja Henrici is a writer/producer with over 20 years of experience in the film and TV industry. In 2021, she founded Sonja Henrici Creates Ltd for her creative and production work. She collaborates with diverse filmmakers worldwide, developing thoughtful and gripping stories that aim to transform perspectives.
Henrici's career began at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (1999-2003). In 2004, she joined Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) at its inception, founding SDI Productions in 2007. As Co-Director/Executive Producer (2013-2020), she played a crucial role in SDI's international success and championed Scottish documentary.
Her producer and executive producer credits include award-winning feature documentaries such as "Future My Love," "I Am Breathing," "Donkeyote," "Becoming Animal," and "Time Trial." Recent credits include "Merkel" and "The Oil Machine," with "Tracing Light" and "Love & Trouble" forthcoming.
Henrici's films have screened globally at top festivals, in cinemas, on TV, and VOD platforms across over 60 countries. She led SDI to charitable status in 2019 and oversaw the 50:50+ Women Direct Campaign, advocating for more women directors in documentary.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
