MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff Brings ‘Sense of Urgency’ to Opioid Crisis
MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff has a new three-part series on the opioid crisis in America — one he calls the most important story he’s ever told. “When you look at the statistics and see that more people are dying from overdoses now than HIV, gun deaths and car crashes at their peak years, it’s just startling,” Soboroff told TheWrap. “To know that policy can effect change and literally save tens of thousands of lives, you know there is a sense of urgency that we’re trying to bring to the reporting.” Soboroff’s reporting for “One Nation, Over Dosed” took him to Montgomery County,

Megyn Kelly Hopes to Spark ‘Sunday Night’ for NBC

Megyn Kelly Hopes to Spark ‘Sunday Night’ for NBC
Thanks to her colorful tangles with Donald Trump on the campaign trail, a best-selling book and a popular primetime perch on Fox News Channel, many people no doubt believe they’ve seen Megyn Kelly do it all. She begs to differ.

“I don’t think you have seen me do, really, anything like this before,” says Kelly during a recent telephone interview.

Many eyes will be on Kelly for a variety of reasons starting this Sunday, when she anchors the debut of “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly,” a new newsmagazine that will air directly opposite CBS’ “60 Minutes.” Some people will have other reasons to watch: Advertisers will be checking to see how she fares in communicating to a more general audience than watched her on Fox News Channel. Others will be scanning the screen to guess how she might fare this fall when she launches a new 9 a.m. program that will in many markets vie directly

MSNBC Chief Sees Hard News Focus, Trump Scandals Driving Ratings Surge

MSNBC Chief Sees Hard News Focus, Trump Scandals Driving Ratings Surge
Rachel Maddow had planned to stay home sick from her MSNBC program Thursday night, but news got in her way.

As Maddow lay on a couch at home, she told viewers last week, she learned of a major NBC News scoop: Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law and one of his most senior advisers, was under scrutiny by the FBI in its probe of Russia meddling in the 2016 presidential election. She returned to the network to host her regular primetime show that evening.

“When I got the call about this news, I really wanted to come in,” Maddow told her viewers. “Because I think this is important.”

More people are finding it difficult to stay away from MSNBC. In the first quarter, the network’s weekday primetime viewership in adults 25-54 – the demographic coveted most by advertisers – rose 54%, and its overall audience in that time slot swelled 68%. Only Fox News Channel and Espn had more viewers on

How MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff Is Making His Mark on Campaign 2016

How MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff Is Making His Mark on Campaign 2016
Philadelphia — When he was not even three years old, Jacob Soboroff drew some dials on a cardboard box, cut a hole to create a “screen” and popped himself inside to air his first news report — chirping something about life on the beach in Santa Monica.

The through line from that moment more than three decades ago to this week’s Democratic National Convention is not crystal clear, but it is there. Los Angeles-native Soboroff is one of a breakthrough group of reporters who have made their mark in Campaign 2016 – weaned on political campaigns, including his dad’s run for L.A. mayor in 2000, molded by the new millennium’s multi-channel online and TV landscape and tempered by an election cycle as unpredictable as any in memory.

Brian Williams Apologizes After Woman Says Va Is ‘F—ed Up’ Live on MSNBC (Video)
Brian Williams is sorry. In his return to primetime TV, anchoring MSNBC’s Iowa caucuses coverage, the former “NBC Nightly News” anchor had to apologize after a young, impassioned Iowa voter yelled on-camera that the Veterans Administration is “f—ed up.” “We apologize,” Williams said on behalf of himself, MSNBC and reporter Jacob Soboroff, who was in a gym watching the exchange between the woman and Sanders supporters who were trying to get her to join them. Jacob Soboroff Joins MSNBC As Correspondent

Jacob Soboroff Joins MSNBC As Correspondent
Jacob Soboroff, best known, perhaps, for his time as a host with upstart media outlets like Huffington Post Live and Pivot’s “Take Part Live,” has joined MSNBC as a correspondent.

He started with the NBCUniversal-owned network in September. His first story explored the dichotomy of San Francisco, which is home to many upscale technology companies, but also plagued by a homeless problem.

Soboroff was listed among the correspondents covering the aftermath of the shootings in Roseburg, Oregon on Friday.

A biography on Soboroff’s website lists other experience: hosting YouTube nation, a daily clip show produced by DreamWorks Animation, and sundry assignments for networks including MTV, AMC, NBC, CNN, PBS and NPR.

He joins as MSNBC is in the midst of a transformation, reshaping the bulk of its daytime schedule to focus more on breaking news rather than programs built around a particular agenda or perspective. The network’s

Meghan McCain, daughter of Senator John McCain, and Jacob Soboroff, a founding host of “HuffPost Live,” have held forth regularly on the program, a centerpiece of the young network, which launched in August, 2013. They were joined in October by Baratunde Thurston,

But he will also bring new perspective to the unique program, which follows Pivot’s (and owner Participant Media’s ) mission of trying to raise awareness of important issues among viewers and in doing so, spur them on to action.

Pivot: New cable channel launches Thursday with 'Video Killed the Radio Star' -- Video
The fact that Pivot, a new network for millennials, is launching Aug. 1, the date MTV hit television in 1981, is purely coincidental. But here’s something that isn’t: The first thing Pivot will air at 6 a.m. Et on Thursday is a video for “Video Killed the Radio Star.”

You may recall that the Buggles’ video was the first one played on MTV 32 years ago. For its update, which celebrates a new generation’s creative power, Pivot recorded independent artists live all over Los Angeles, including Run River North, Goldspot, London Thor, Far and Away, Musical Mammal and Rainbow Jackson.
