Thanks to its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, Babygirl made waves ahead of its theatrical release and it helps that it boasts an all-star cast. Directed by Halina Reijn (Bodies Bodies Bodies), the Nicole Kidman-led erotic thriller centers on Romy, a high-powered CEO who finds herself entangled in a high-stakes affair with her much younger intern, Samuel (Harris Dickinson). Although Romy is mostly satisfied with her long-time marriage to Jacob (Antonio Banderas), something is missing when it comes to desire and sex. Hailed as one of the best erotic thrillers in years, Babygirl explores complex power dynamics.
Not only does the film feature an age-gap romance, but Babygirl plays with the characters' positions of power. While Kidman's Romy is in charge in the workplace, the ever-confident Samuel takes control elsewhere. The character-driven narrative easily makes Babygirl one of Nicole Kidman's best movies, though it also leaves ample room for Dickinson,...

"Krazy House is taped in front of a live studio audience." (Though not really...) XYZ Films has revealed an official trailer for the film Krazy House, a bonkers weird & crazy creation from the two Dutch filmmakers Steffen Haars & Flip van der Kuil. This premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival at Midnight, and the reviews were awful. It's an acquired taste if you're into this kind of wacky humor. When Russian workers in Bernie's house turn out to be wanted criminals on the hunt for stashed loot, Bernie must man up and save his wife and the rest of his studio audience approved sitcom family. It's a riff on 90s sitcoms, taking place all in one "crazy house", but with even more disgusting and heinous things happening all the time. The horror film stars Nick Frost, Alicia Silverstone, Kevin Connolly, Gaite Jansen, and Walt Klink. I saw this at Sundance and absolutely hated it,...

XYZ Films has dropped a new trailer for Krazy House, the action-horror comedy which our own Chris Bumbray absolutely hated when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Part ’90s sitcom, part blood-soaked, gross-out mayhem, the Krazy House trailer proudly features its offensive subject matter as a badge of pride. The films stars Nick Frost as Bernie, a religious homemaker who discovers that the Russian workers in his house are, in fact, criminals searching for loot. In order to save his wife and the rest of his studio audience-approved sitcom family, Bernie has to man up and unleash his inner beast. The film was written and directed by Steffen Haars & Flip van der Kuil and stars Nick Frost, Alicia Silverstone, Kevin Connolly, Gaite Jansen, and Walt Klink.
Krazy House feels like it’s targeting a very niche audience who might appreciate its shock humour, but that didn’t include Bumbray.

In her “Krazy House” review for IndieWire, critic Katie Rife described writer/directors Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil’s absurdist Dutch horror comedy as testing “the limits of taste.”
With its hyper-violent style and blasphemous dark humor, the latest feature from the filmmakers behind “New Kids Turbo” and “Bros Before Hos” also inspired Rife to write that their movie was “like an Adult Swim infomercial directed by black-metal teenagers.” That’s a point of pride in the outrageous project’s equally unapologetic first trailer — which debuted exclusively with IndieWire after “Krazy House” made its divisive world premiere at Sundance in January.
The first look above includes quotes from our site’s critical review and others to spectacularly cheeky self-endorsement. Decidedly not for everyone, this sitcom deconstruction quickly gained a reputation for its gonzo shock value and outright mocking of Christianity. Dutch directorial duo Steffan Haars and Flip Van Der Kuil’s English-language debut, Krazy House, polarized Sundance audiences this year for its over-the-top lampooning of the ’90s sitcom era. Per Deadline, WTFilms has boarded international sales rights on the divisive horror-comedy.
In the film from writers/directors Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil…
“When Russian workers in Bernie’s house turn out to be wanted criminals, Bernie has to man up and save his ’90s sitcom family.”
Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) stars as the bumbling Bernie Christian alongside Alicia Silverstone (Perpetrator) as his beleaguered wife Eva. The cast also includes Jan Bijvoet, Gaite Jansen, Walt Klink and Kevin Connolly.
The ’90s sitcom setup quickly derails when a trio of Russian criminals arrive; shocking violence and chaos ensues.
The movie debuted in Sundance’s The Midnights section and then made its European premiere in Rotterdam’s Limelight section this weekend.

The cast commits to the ridiculousness of the script, but the film tests the audience's patience with slow pacing. The script's examination of masculinity is weak. Despite committed performances, Krazy House fails to execute its potential.
At every Sundance Film Festival, there’s always a wacky film that gets movie lovers talking for one reason or another. This year, that film is directing duo Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil’s Krazy House. What begins as a quirky examination of the "man of the house" slowly morphs into an unhinged eruption of mayhem. Starring Nick Frost and Alicia Silverstone, this shocking horror comedy is a train wreck that you can’t look away from. Whether the filmmakers intended this to be the case is a question on its own, but I’m sure Krazy House will acquire a following.

Not too long ago, IMDb introduced a new feature to their website called the Parents Guide. The goal was to give parents a quick rundown of risqué, violent or suggestive scenes from films, and allow them to make quick decisions as to whether or not they should allow their child to watch said movies. Parents who felt aghast that Spielberg would show a scene where a father was unable to reach his child’s outstretched hand, as in the 1991 classic Hook, might choose to skip ahead, while other parents who are appalled by children debating whether or not Wolfman has “nards”, could forgo all of Shane Black and Fred Dekker’s 1987 monster mashup Monster Squad. However, should one day their children ask them if they can sit down and watch a screening of Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil’s new film Krazy House, the Finnigan’s Wake length...

Remember that scene in Natural Born Killers in which the Juliette Lewis character enters a Married… with Children-style sitcom, with Rodney Dangerfield playing her dad? Imagine a whole movie based on that concept, add tons of violence and gore — not to mention gags about Christ and Catholicism, a tray-full of crystal meth and, in one late sequence, a dog that gets decapitated by a shotgun blast — and you’ll get an idea of what’s in store while watching the Sundance Midnight selection, Krazy House.
As over-the-top as that already sounds, the film is even more exhausting to sit through — like a hard-r Saturday Night Live sketch that’s been taken way too far, to the point you’re just hoping that it stops. Relentless and off-putting, the English-language debut of Dutch hitmakers Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil is unlikely to land a wide audience in the U.

Modeled on a late-’80s/early-’90s American family sitcom — which soon transitions to a midnight splatterfest — the tongue-in-cheek Dutch production “Krazy House” has all the transgressive stylings of a 15 year-old’s Reddit post on an atheism forum in 2010. Directors Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil offer ideas of subversion that feel both long-outdated in concept and completely dull in execution, to the point that merely describing the film feels irresponsible, lest its premise accidentally lure curious viewers to the cinema.
Nick Frost plays Bernie Christian, the pointedly-named patriarch of a throwback family sitcom. The definition of satire is flexible, but not quite flexible enough to accommodate “Krazy House.” This bloody, anarchic hand grenade of a film is just straight-up blasphemous, opening with a brushed-aluminum shot of a cop plugging a nun full of bullets and escalating from there. Like an Adult Swim infomercial directed by black-metal teenagers, the latest feature from Dutch comedy duo Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil takes sneering pleasure in giving the middle finger to God in hyper-violent, absurdist fashion.
The Adult Swim bit is baked into the premise of the movie, which takes place entirely within the confines of a sound stage reminiscent of the set from “Married…With Children.” The sitcom-within-the-film is called, naturally, “Krazy House.” It revolves around the Christian family, which is composed of standard-issue archetypes: bucktoothed bumbler Bernie (Nick Frost); his wife Eva (Alicia Silverstone), who’s naturally way out of his league...

The logline for writers/directors Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil’s Krazy House reads like the perfect gonzo midnighter for the horror crowd. The initial setup is meant to skewer the zaniness of ’90s sitcoms, complete with a live studio audience and aspect ratio to match. But that premise quickly goes off the rails, not in a good way, stretching a short film concept into a grueling slog of empty shock value.
Complete with an opening theme song and credits, Krazy House introduces the Christian family. Bernie (Nick Frost) serves as the oafish but well-meaning dad, the polar opposite of his neurotic workaholic wife, Eva (Alicia Silverstone). Then there’s his gum-swallowing daughter Sarah (Gaite Jansen) and science-obsessed son Adam (Walt Klink), both unamused by Bernie’s clumsiness and steadfast devotion to Jesus Christ. It’s only house pup Angel that seems not to mind Bernie’s sitcom hijinks.

Alicia Silverstone was a bright light in the otherwise maligned 1997 superhero movie “Batman & Robin,” playing Batgirl opposite George Clooney’s Batman. Although Clooney has distanced himself from the role in previous years, he showed up in 2023’s “The Flash” in a multiverse cameo. While Silverstone was at the Variety Studio presented by Audible to discuss her new Sundance film “Krazy House,” she was asked about whether or not she’d put the cape back on.
“If you arrange that I will do it!” she answered with approval.
Much like a trip to the multiverse, “Krazy House” is a film that plays fast and loose with perception and reality. Nick Frost and Silverstone — along with Gaite Jansen and Walt Klink, who play their kids — are the Christians, a devout family living in a ’90s sitcom. A bizarre-sounding comedy, Krazy House – starring Nick Frost and Alicia Silverstone – is about to make its debut.
Filmed and ready to go out into the world is a brand new comedy by the name of Krazy House. Frankly, it sounds a bit of a hoot.
Nick Frost, Alicia Silverstone and Gaite Jansen lead the ensemble for the film, which sees Frost in the role of Bernie, a man who discovers tha the Russian workers who are labouring away in his home are a bit more than they seem. Criminals, in fact, who are trying to tear his house apart in the search for ill-gotten wares.
The film actually wrapped right at the start of 2022, with Frost and Silverstone heading to Amsterdam, where the film was shot on location. From interviews they’ve given, they had a blast making it, too.

The Sundance Film Festival is one of the most highly respected film festivals in the world, and while the horror genre generally doesn’t seem to receive as much respect as it deserves, horror has had a steady presence at Sundance over the years. In fact, just last year the Sundance horror line-up included the likes of Infinity Pool, Talk to Me, My Animal, and Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls. The Sundance 2024 line-up was revealed earlier today (you can see the list Here) – and there again a good number of horror movies included in the program.
Below you can take a closer look at some of the horror movies that will be showing at Sundance 2024, with images to go along with each one of them.

Alicia Silverstone — whose latest feature Perpetrator is having its world premiere in the Berlinale — has just shot another film over the German border.
The Clueless star joined Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) and Kevin Connolly (Entourage) in the newly-announced dark comedy Krazy House, which recently wrapped production in Amsterdam. The feature marks the first English-language film from Dutch writer-director duo Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil (New Kids Turbo, Bro’s Before Ho’s, Ron Goossens: Low-Budget Stuntman), with Kaap Holland Film producing.

One of the best feelings in the world is discovering a series or a movie that you didn’t know about and realizing how distinct it is from anything else out there. Since working at JoBlo.com, I have been lucky enough to come across several series that I enjoyed and got to tell you about them. Sometimes, I am lucky enough to talk to the talent involved about the project and how it came to be. Such is the case with the new Peacock series, Leopard Skin. After watching the excellent series Jett, creator/director Sebastian Gutierrez and star Carla Gugino were kind enough to let me know about their latest project, this half-hour crime series that debuted on Peacock recently (check out our review).
Leopard Skin can be categorized as a heist series, a thriller, a drama, or any number of labels but it thrives by not being locked down to one genre.

Plot: A criminal gang takes two women and their guests hostage when they seek shelter in a remote paradise, where secrets, betrayals and desires bubble to the surface as everyone awaits their fate.
Review: Never underestimate a well-crafted heist. A masterfully constructed plan, whether or not it goes awry, is always a sight to behold. Like a Rube-Goldberg Device or painstakingly arranged rows of dominoes, I am a sucker for a good heist story. Over the years, film and television have played home to stellar examples of this but many are focused on trying to one-up what came before rather than revel in the story itself. Sebastian Gutierrez’s latest project, the Peacock original series Leopard Skin, is a prime example of the pulpy fun you can get out of a heist and its aftermath by pitting a group of characters opposite one another with only the prospect of survival driving them.

At a time when so many crime thrillers tend toward the dark, gritty and prestige-minded, Peacock’s Leopard Skin stands out for being none of those things. While its setup sounds typical enough for the genre — a botched heist, terrified hostages, secrets and standoffs and betrayals — its execution proves to be anything but.
Created, written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez (Jett), this series dances backward and forward in time, taking leisurely detours down semi-random rabbit holes and flights of fancy. It rarely misses an opportunity to admire the beauty of the (frequently unclothed) female form, or to plug into the crackling tension, amorous or otherwise, coursing between its characters. It’s ostensibly a drama, but one studded with oddball jokes.
All these excesses are held together not with airtight plotting, but through a hazy dream logic that at times feels downright opaque. As such,...

A group of diamond thieves get more than they bargained for in Leopard Skin. The psychological thriller series sees the group fleeing a botched robbery and taking refuge in an isolated beach house occupied by two women, whose complicated relationship could bring their own plans of escape to a standstill.

There is more beneath the surface of Leopard Skin. This a fact that drew Carla Gugino to the upcoming new Peacock series from Sebastian Gutierrez. The two last worked together on the short-lived Jett. Here the Haunting of Hill House star plays Alba, a documentarian who along with Batista “Batty” (Gaite Jansen), is paid an unexpected visit by a band of criminals. Fleeing a diamond heist gone wrong, they take the women as hostages and use the beachside estate as their safe refuge. Things continue to go awry when dinner guests, Max (Philip Winchester), Maru (Amelia Eve), and the estate’s former housekeeper, Inocencia (Ana de la Reguera) appear. Layers of this story are peeled back from flashbacks to the present day. Secrets are uncovered and questions are answered (Jeffrey Dean Morgan!) for everyone involved right up until the last of the eight episodes. We caught up with Gugino about...

Screen Rant is thrilled to exclusively share the exciting trailer of Peacock's new crime thriller Leopard Skin, which arrives on the streaming service thanks to NBCUniversal's partnership with Telemundo. The series follows a criminal gang, made up of Nora Arnezeder (Safe House), Gentry White (UnREAL), and Margot Bingham (The Walking Dead), who abscond from a jewelry heist gone wrong. In need of a place to hide out while the heat dies down, they bust in on a beachside estate and discover the occupants inside.
The owners of the estate include Alba and Batty, who have been living in seclusion. Once the robbery crew takes over the house, things only get more complicated and tensions rise among the cohabitants as guests arrive and are also taken hostage. Carla Gugino’s first job as a TV series regular was playing Michael J. Fox’s reporter girlfriend Ashley on Spin City in 1996. It was a big break that instead broke bad: The show’s creators quickly realized Ashley was a distraction from the funnier workplace scenes, and Gugino was let go after a dozen episodes. So thorough was her erasure from the series that an Ashley subplot was removed from a rerun that aired not long after Gugino’s last episode, replaced by previously-cut footage featuring other characters who were still on the show.

Per our sister site Deadline, Esposito will play the powerful crime lord Baudelaire,...

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul’s Giancarlo Esposito is set for a lead role opposite star Carla Gugino in Cinemax’s straight-to-series drama Jett, from Gothika scribe Sebastian Gutierrez. Also cast as series regulars are Elena Anaya, Michael Aronov, Gaite Jansen, Chris Backus, Gil Bellows and Violet McGraw. Jodie Turner-Smith, Gentry White, Lucy Walters and Mustafa Shakir are set for recurring roles.
Esposito, who has a one-year deal on Jett, is coming off a two-season series regular turn on Better Call Saul, reprising his popular Breaking Bad character of Gustavo “Gus” Fring. That includes Season 3 and the upcoming fourth season, debuting Aug. 9, which already has been shot. I hear that while Esposito has has no deal in place beyond that, he could return to the AMC series should it get renewed for a fifth season, with the production schedule of Jett allowing for that.

Spoilers ahead in our review of the latest eventful Line Of Duty series 4 episode…
This review contains spoilers.
See related The quiet brilliance of Mackenzie Crook's Detectorists
We’re waist-deep in it now, Line Of Duty’s fast-flowing river of ‘Huh?’, ‘But I thought…?’ and ‘Well, blimey’. Dig your feet in for purchase, there’s work to be done.
This week’s episode turned more tables than Jesus at a temple-based bureau de change. First, we were led to think that Roz Huntley—or bits of her—were decomposing in a forest pond. Then hey presto, there she was, back at work, torso intact and with barely a scratch on her.
There was one scratch on her, a wound inflicted by Tim Ifield as the last gasp act of a true forensic scientist. Knowing he was a goner, Tim tried to get his killer’s skin...

Community Cinema: Verhoeven’s Failed Experiment Confirms Concepts of Authorship
Four years after its premiere in his native Netherlands and a screening at the 2012 Rome Film Festival, Paul Verhoeven’s experimental title Tricked makes its way to Us theaters, available simultaneously streaming exclusively on Fandor. The director playfully refers to the film as 14 ½, referring to Fellini, since ultimately the ambitious endeavor, wherein audience participation was called upon to craft the narrative based on a four page scenario, isn’t quite feature length. Instead, the film includes a behind-the-scenes preface (called Paul’s Experience) documenting the significant pre-production travails, including thousands of scripts sent, none of which were actually used in completion. As such, the project has a rather uneven, cobbled together feel, and seems to prove the concept of the auteur.
Ineke (Ricky Koole) is hosting a birthday bash for her philandering husband Remco (Peter Blok), who has just turned fifty.

Robin Hood: Origins has found its Maid Marian.
The Knick star Eve Hewson will follow in the footsteps of Olivia de Havilland, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Cate Blanchett in playing the outlaw's love interest.
According to Deadline, Hewson held off competition from more than 100 actresses to win the role.
Belle's Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Gaite Jansen and Lucy Fry were among the rising stars who came close to joining new Robin Hood Taron Egerton in Sherwood Forest.
A bit of trivia on Hewson... she's the daughter of non other than U2 frontman Bono.
Peaky Blinders director Otto Bathurst is behind the camera for Robin Hood: Orgins, with Joby Harold (Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur) writing the script.
The story, apparently inspired by Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, sees Robin return from the Crusades and fight corruption in Nottingham with his band of Merry Men.
Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the producers on the movie,...
