Awards darling Brie Larson is back for more with ‘Lessons in Chemistry’: ‘Distinctive and committed’
Brie Larson won the Oscar for Best Actress for “Room” in 2016 before landing the coveted role of Captain Marvel in the MCU. Since then, however, Larson has only really worked in major franchises — appearing in “Avengers: Endgame” and a handful of other MCU projects as well as featuring in the “Fast and Furious” film series. Larson hasn’t really found a project to show the talent she displayed in her tour de force performance in “Room.”
Until now with “Lessons in Chemistry.” The Apply TV+ show, which is streaming now, is based on the novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus. It follows Larson as Elizabeth Zott, a lab tech and chemist who uses her new job hosting a 1960s TV cooking show to educate housewives on scientific topics. The result is an entertaining period story in which Larson utilizes her distinct energy and impressive range to full effect.

For Kendrick Lamar’s “We Cry Together” short film, it was crucial that the visuals captured the vulnerability and toxicity of a relationship in an intimate space.
“It challenged me to actually live in what I was writing, and really be there and be present with Taylour [Paige],” Lamar said. “And I remember us going back and forth and feeling like, damn, I understand this character even more because I’m evoking the energy from it and the passion from it because it’s alive, and it’s direct.”
Directed by Free, Lamar and Jake Schreier, “We Cry Together” follows Lamar in a heated argument with his partner, played by “Zola” star Taylour Paige. The video features the theatrical song from his fifth album, “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.” The immersive experience was shot in one single take with live vocal tracks.

For the screen-obsessed, watching a film at home poses a challenge: how can you concentrate while you’re also on your phone? Elijah Allan-Blitz’s Remembering – which has now launched on Disney+ in the USA, with an aim to roll out internationally later — leans into the distractions of technology by creating a film that can be significantly augmented by an iPhone or an iPad. It starts with a writer, played by Brie Larson, trying to remember something, before being magically transported into a world of pure childlike imagination. Prioritising mood and ambience over plot, the film shows us dolphin clouds, fairies cascading down rainbows, giant waterfalls and butterflies that threaten to pop out of the screen. And if you download the Remembering: The Ar Experience app and hold up your device at the right time, they literally do; treating us to an extensive, immersive world that takes over your living room.

Remembering is an eight-minute Ar (augmented reality) short film that premieres at midnight tonight on Disney+. The film is directed by Elijah Allan-Blitz and stars Brie Larson as a young woman who uses her inner child to recall her greatest forgotten ideas. As far as I know, this project has been three years in the making and when I first met Elijah in 2019, he explained the project to me but didn’t realize the scope until seeing it for myself.
Back in 2019 at the Toronto Film Festival after party for Just Mercy, I met Oscar winning actress Brie Larson, and her guest Elijah. She introduced us and said, “he’s really smart, and working on something mind-blowing.” Of course, I was curious to know what it was so I asked, He told me he was working on an interactive Ar (augmented reality) project that would was similar to the 3D,...

“Lessons in Chemistry,” the upcoming Apple TV+ drama series led and executive produced by Brie Larson, has added Lewis Pullman, Aja Naomi King, Stephanie Koenig, Patrick Walker, Thomas Mann, Kevin Sussman, Beau Bridges to the cast.
The series is set in the early 1950s and follows Elizabeth Zott (Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a society deeming that women belong in the domestic sphere, not the professional one. When Elizabeth finds herself pregnant, alone and fired from her lab, she musters the ingenuity only a single mother has. She accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes, all the while craving a return to her true love: science.

Virtual reality is exactly that: a virtual reality. More often than not, VR is associated with immersing viewers into a gaming experience or a hyper-reality that leaves us in awe. With The Messy Truth, producers Van Jones, Brie Larson and director Elijah Allan-Blitz bring us a different kind of VR experience that is all too real — so real that it will stir up emotions and shock your biases.
