Susan Brennan is a poet, screenwriter and activist. She studied theatre arts at S.U.N.Y. New Paltz and poetry at NYU Graduate School. As a child, she spent most of her time roaming the woods, climbing trees, and hiding out at the public library. Her early years were spent typing up poems and listening to rock albums.
With Amir Naderi, she co-wrote Vegas: Based on a True Story, which premiered at the Venice and Tribeca Film Festivals, and screened at MoMA. Her movie pitch won the Tribeca/Amex My Movie Pitch contest and was created into a short film, Doggie Bags, by Ed Burns, premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival. She co-produced a short comedic film, One Day Home, which premiered at the Austin Film Festival. She wrote the 1 million hit plus, award winning web-series Verse, a Murder Mystery.
Her poems can be found in books, Blue Sirens (Dancing Girl Press), numinous (Finishing Line Press), and Drunken Oasis (Rattapallax Press) and various publications. She has curated poetry programming (WanderWord) at Wilco's Solid Sound Music Festival, MASS MoCA, and with Parachute Literary Arts in Coney Island, namely the first poetry reading on the Wonder Wheel. She has organized various readings, including The World's Oldest Ship, a year-long series at J-Collabo, Brooklyn.
With a circus-arts company, video artist and musicians, she co-produced and staged many poems including her poem Chromoluminarism, about Georges Seurat's final painting.
She has developed and presented panels at AWP and Split This Rock Poetry Festival.
As an activist, she organized a Congressional Hearing for Artists on Health Care and has participated in many civic actions.
