Plínio Profeta

Plínio Profeta is a musician, composer, and music producer, widely recognized as one of Brazil's most talented and innovative composers for film and television. His professional journey began in Los Angeles, where he played bass in various bands in the early 2000s, a period during which he was awarded a Latin Grammy for his work as a producer and musician on Lenine's album "Falange Canibal." He later transitioned into music production, mastering several instruments, and upon returning to Brazil, collaborated with renowned artists such as Pedro Luis, O Rappa, Lucas Santanna, Xis, Lobão, Sandra de Sá, and Tiê. Due to the impact of his work as a music producer and with his bands, Plínio was invited to compose and produce music for film. He has composed original music for over 50 audiovisual productions, including some of Brazil's highest-grossing films like "Minha Mãe é Uma Peça" (2013) and "Cilada.com" (2011). Plínio has been awarded the Best Original Soundtrack prize by the Brazilian Academy of Cinema twice, for "O Palhaço" in 2011 and "O Filme e Minha Vida" in 2018, as well as other national awards for works such as "Feliz Natal" (2008), "Paraíso, Aqui Vou Eu" (2012), and "Sessão de Terapia" (2017). In 2016, the film "Divinas Divas," for which he composed the original soundtrack, received the Best Global Film Award at SXSW. The year 2023 was particularly significant and productive for Profeta's career, as he composed music for 5 films and 5 series simultaneously, setting a personal record. The feature film "Nosso Sonho: Claudinho e Buchecha" (2023), for which he also contributed the original soundtrack, was a success and topped the year's cinema box office. Additionally, Plínio gained prominence on the international stage in 2024, with the selection of the series "Betinho: No fio e Navalha" (2023, Formata Produções/Globoplay) for the Berlinale Series Market and his nomination for the Cannes International Series Festival, competing among the world's finest television productions. This year, Plínio was also invited to become a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a recognition of his significance and contributions to motion pictures.
