See the Power of Friendship in 'Same Kind of Different as Me' Trailer

"You're not a bad man, and I'm glad we're friends." Paramount has debuted the trailer for a drama called Same Kind of Different as Me, adapted from the memoirs of Denver Moore, Ron Hall & Lynn Vincent, about the lives of three people bound together by fate and friendship. The film stars Renée Zellweger in her first major role (aside from Bridget Jones's Baby) in years, Greg Kinnear, and Djimon Hounsou; along with Jon Voight, Olivia Holt, Ty Parker and others. This looks like an emotional, heartfelt story of friends and family, but some of it looks pretty bland and melodramatic. They're also dumping this during the Oscar season meaning it's not that great, but at least Djimon Hounsou looks exceptional. Give it a watch. Here's the first official trailer for Michael Carney's Same Kind of Different as Me, direct from YouTube: A modern-day slave, an international art dealer, and

Vincent Price Goes Digging—In Technicolor

A year after starring in House of Wax, Vincent Price made another film with a solid cast and a script by an Oscar-winning writer, photographed in Technicolor by the man who went on to shoot such rainbow-hued classics as Mary Poppins. But Born in Freedom: The Story of Colonel Drake never played in theaters: it was an industrial film. Many Hollywood professionals made a good living working in the arena of nontheatrical filmmaking. These sponsored films were underwritten by various corporations, industrial groups, and branches of our government. Now my pal Ron Hall at Festival Films has released a collection of these oddities on DVD under the title Industrial Strength America. Born...

The Immersive, Intimate Stray Dog Casts America in a Different Light
Debra Granik’s Stray Dog enters the life of one man who could easily become a caricature and gives us a portrait novelistic in its depth and breathtaking in its humanity. On the surface, Ron Hall, the subject of Granik’s documentary Stray Dog, is a kind of cultural Rorschach test: Depending on which part of the country you come from, and your own background, you might see him and arrive at any number of assumptions. Here’s a gruff, heavy Vietnam vet and biker, leathered up and covered in tattoos, living in a trailer park in the Ozarks. Are you intimidated? Attracted? Curious? Terrified? Granik met Hall when he came on to play a small part in her gripping 2011 drama Winter’s Bone, an indie hit that gave Jennifer Lawrence her breakout role and scored an unlikely Best Picture Oscar nomination (Exhibit A in why it was a good
