Surprise! ‘Criminal Minds’ Was 2021’s Most-Streamed TV Show in the U.S.
Netflix has pumped billions of dollars into original programming — but overall, its library of older licensed TV shows far outperforms homegrown hits like “Squid Game” or “Bridgerton.”

In 2021 on Netflix, “Criminal Minds,” the crime-drama procedural that aired on CBS from 2005-20, scored as the most-viewed TV show among U.S. streaming platforms tracked by Nielsen.

The 12 seasons of “Criminal Minds” available on Netflix registered an estimated 33.9 billion minutes watched last year by American viewers, per Nielsen. The show’s cast over the years included Mandy Patinkin, Thomas Gibson, Paget Brewster, Joe Mantegna, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Aisha Tyler.

The massive watch-time for “Criminal Minds” on Netflix is all the more impressive given that it’s nonexclusive: All 15 seasons of the show are on Paramount Plus (for which Nielsen does not report viewing) and seasons 13-15 are available on Hulu.

In second place overall in TV shows was “CoComelon,

Netflix Falls Short of Q4 Subscriber Target, Stock Tumbles on Weak Forecast

Netflix Falls Short of Q4 Subscriber Target, Stock Tumbles on Weak Forecast
Netflix ended 2021 with a slightly lower-than-expected subscriber gain in the fourth quarter, and its stock took a steep dive with a weak Q1 outlook.

The streaming giant reported a net gain of 8.28 million subscribers for Q4, again driven by markets outside North America, to reach 221.8 million total worldwide. Netflix previously forecast 8.5 million paid net adds while Wall Street analysts expected 8.3 million, according to FactSet.

Netflix shares fell more than 20% in after-hours trading, as the company forecast 2.5 million net subscriber adds for the first quarter of 2022. For Q1, Wall Street analysts had been projecting a gain of 7.25 million subscribers, per FactSet.

Investors also likely were spooked by the fact that Netflix admitted in its quarterly letter to shareholders that stepped-up competition in the streaming wars “may be affecting our marginal growth some.”

‘Buffy’ Star Charisma Carpenter Responds To Joss Whedon, Saying He Is Still Unable To “Just Apologize”

‘Buffy’ Star Charisma Carpenter Responds To Joss Whedon, Saying He Is Still Unable To “Just Apologize”
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel actress Charisma Carpenter responded to Joss Whedon’s first lengthy comments regarding allegations of misconduct leveled at him over the past year. Whedon made the remarks in an in-depth interview with New York magazine this week.

About his interactions with Carpenter, who has said he called her “fat” when she was four months pregnant, Whedon said vaguely, “I was not mannerly.” He also said he was bewildered by her account.

“Most of my experiences with Charisma were delightful and charming. She struggled sometimes with her lines, but nobody could hit a punch line harder than her,” Whedon said. “I did not call her fat.”

The actress responded with a social media post calling Whedon a “tyrannical narcissistic boss who is still unable to be accountable and just apologize.”

As a Former ‘Buffy’ Obsessive, Watching Joss Whedon’s Downfall Feels Crushing — and Inevitable (Column)

As a Former ‘Buffy’ Obsessive, Watching Joss Whedon’s Downfall Feels Crushing — and Inevitable (Column)
By the time New York Magazine published its thorough and extremely damning new piece on how Joss Whedon and his entertainment empire fell apart, I couldn’t summon much more than an exhausted sigh. After years of loving his work, followed by years of reconsidering everything I knew about it within the context of the serious allegations against him, Whedon’s downfall in my own world was so swift and complete that I couldn’t stomach the idea of reopening that door at all.

Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is the reason I first started thinking critically about television. I’d long been a fan of TV, but it wasn’t until I fell into Buffy’s Hellmouth that I learned what it meant to be an obsessive: someone who dissects every scene, glance, and joke to get the most of it and figure out what made it all work.

‘Death On The Nile’ To Set Sail For China In Close Step With Start Of Global Rollout

‘Death On The Nile’ To Set Sail For China In Close Step With Start Of Global Rollout
Disney/20th Century Studios’ Death On The Nile has been confirmed for a China release, slated to go out on February 19. The date falls just after the Chinese New Year period ends, and is the day before the culmination of the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

The Kenneth Branagh-directed mystery ensemble nabbed an increasingly rare China slot for Hollywood titles and is the sole studio movie currently dated in 2022. What’s more, it’s also releasing nearly in step with the beginning of its international and domestic rollout — something we haven’t seen in some time. Although it’s a non-traditional Saturday start, the timing of the release confirmation should give Disney room to mobilize its promotional efforts, another recent rarity.

Overall, China was stingy (or late) with release dates for Hollywood movies in 2021, becoming even more ornery to navigate than usual. Some of that was attributable to it having

Charisma Carpenter Responds to Joss Whedon, Says He Is 'Still Unable to Be Accountable and Just Apologize'
Charisma Carpenter issued a response to New York magazine's cover story on Joss Whedon on Tuesday, one day after the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel creator responded to allegations from people who worked with him.

Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase, on both of the above series went public in February 2020, alleging that Whedon created "hostile and toxic work environments."

The star also said that Whedon called her "fat" during her pregnancy.

In the aforementioned New York article, Whedon said that he was "not mannerly" but that he "did not call her fat" while working on Angel.

“Most of my experiences with Charisma were delightful and charming. She struggled sometimes with her lines, but nobody could hit a punch line harder than her.”

In a statement released in response, Carpenter said that her “former tyrannical narcissistic boss… is still unable to be accountable and just apologize.”

Joss Whedon Responds to "Toxic" Allegations Made by Buffy Cast Members: "Sometimes You Had to Yell"

Joss Whedon Responds to
Joss Whedon is speaking out.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel creator is opening up about allegations leveled against him by people who worked on the two shows.

Charisma Carpenter went public with allegations against Whedon in February 2021, revealing that she stands with Justice League star Ray Fisher following allegations he made about Whedon the year before.

Carpenter alleged that Whedon’s “casually cruel” behavior included threatening to fire her, calling her “fat” when she was four months pregnant, asking her if she was going to “keep” her baby, and firing her after she gave birth.

“Joss has a history of being casually cruel. He has created hostile and toxic work environments since his early career,” Carpenter wrote on Instagram at the time.

“Like his ongoing, passive-aggressive threats to fire me…. And callously calling me ‘fat’ to colleagues when I was four months pregnant, weighing 126 lbs."

Joss Whedon Opens Up About Past Misconduct Allegations; ‘Justice League’ Actor Ray Fisher Responds

Joss Whedon Opens Up About Past Misconduct Allegations; ‘Justice League’ Actor Ray Fisher Responds
After being accused in July 2020 by Justice League actor Ray Fisher for “gross, abusive, unprofessional” conduct during the production of the 2017 Warner Bros movie, filmmaker Joss Whedon has finally responded to that accusation in a New York profile, as well as to the string of allegations that followed from Gal Gadot and former Buffy the Vampire colleagues.

The profile “The Undoing of Joss Whedon,” published Monday morning, also contained new misconduct claims against Whedon, which he also fields.

The loud social media slam by Fisher, who played Cyborg in the film, against Whedon back in 2020 resulted in WarnerMedia conducting an internal investigation into what went sideways on Justice League, resulting in the media conglom vaguely stating in December of that year that “remedial action has been taken,” with fanboy genre creator Whedon exiting the HBO series he created, The Nevers, a month prior.

In regards to Fisher’s claims that

Joss Whedon Breaks Silence on Misconduct Allegations, Calls Ray Fisher ‘A Bad Actor in Both Senses’

Joss Whedon Breaks Silence on Misconduct Allegations, Calls Ray Fisher ‘A Bad Actor in Both Senses’
Filmmaker Joss Whedon has broken his silence on the multiple allegations of misconduct against him from productions he oversaw, including the 2017 film “Justice League” and his influential TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

In a lengthy interview with New York magazine that published on Monday, Whedon denied Gal Gadot’s allegation that he “threatened” her career while working on “Justice League,” which Whedon took over after original director Zack Snyder withdrew from the film following a family tragedy.

“I don’t threaten people. Who does that?” Whedon told New York. “English is not her first language, and I tend to be annoyingly flowery in my speech.” Whedon said he told Gadot that she would have to tie his body to a railroad track before he would cut a scene she wanted removed and that Gadot misunderstood as Whedon threatening to tie her to a track instead. Gadot’s response in the story: “I understood perfectly.

Joss Whedon Calls Ray Fisher A “Bad Actor” & Denies Threatening Gal Gadot In ‘Justice League’ Accusations Rebuttal
“The beginning of the internet raised me up, and the modern internet pulled me down. The perfect symmetry is not lost on me.” Or, you live by the fandom; you die by the fandom. That’s the theme of a new and rather long and expansive New York Magazine article by Lila Shapiro about disgraced writer/director Joss Whedon. Something of a cautionary tale about how the things that love you can swallow you whole; the article also does get into massive detail on the history of the “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” showrunner/creator and “The Avengers” writer/director’s alleged abusive behavior over the years.

Netflix sets back-to-back Red Notice sequels with Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson returning
Netflix took a huge gamble on Red Notice, the streamer stumping up some $200 million on the Rawson Marshall Thurber-directed heist caper after Universal got cold feet on the spiralling costs for the film, which included nice $20 million paydays for its stars Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. Nevertheless, despite a mixed critical […]

Netflix Plots Two ‘Red Notice’ Sequels With Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds

Netflix Plots Two ‘Red Notice’ Sequels With Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds
Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds will return for two — yes, two — “Red Notice” sequels.

On the heels of Netflix’s announcement that “Red Notice,” an over-the-top comedic spy thriller, has become the streamer’s most-watched movie of all time, the company is in early development on a pair of follow-up films set in the global heist world.

Director Rawson Marshall Thurber is expected to resume filmmaking duties and plans to shoot the two sequels back-to-back. According to Deadline, who broke the news of the sequels, Netflix hopes to commence production in early 2023 given the busy schedules of everyone involved. (That means Reynolds’ previously announced sabbatical from acting may be short lived.) In the meantime, Thurber has been working on the screenplays.

Netflix declined to comment.

Given the (ambiguous) success of “Red Notice,” Gadot, Johnson, Reynolds and Thurber are anticipating even bigger paydays for the sequels, which is saying

‘Snow White’: Andrew Burnap Set As Male Lead For Disney’s Live-Action Remake

‘Snow White’: Andrew Burnap Set As Male Lead For Disney’s Live-Action Remake
Tony winner Andrew Burnap (The Inheritance) will star alongside Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman franchise) in the live-action remake of Snow White that Marc Webb is directing for Disney—playing a new male lead character, rather than The Prince or the Huntsman of past iterations.

The latest adaptation of Disney’s classic 1938 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, featuring original songs from the La La Land duo of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, will naturally have Burnap sing. Zegler is portraying Snow White, with Gadot as the Evil Queen and Oscar nominee Marc Platt producing, as previously announced. The project will head into production in the UK this spring.

Burnap is primarily known for his stage work, having earned a Tony just last year for his turn as Toby Darling in The Inheritance. The actor has also taken part in productions of This Day Forward,

Netflix Plotting ‘Red Notice’ Back-To-Back Sequel Shoot: Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds & Rawson Marshall Thurber Expected Back
Exclusive: Back when Deadline revealed that Universal wavered on the big budget of Rawson Marshall Thurber’s three-hander script Red Notice and franchise-hungry Netflix stepped right in, skeptics questioned the wisdom of a global heist film with superstar paydays for Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds and an eight-figure payday for writer-director Thurber. Looks like Netflix’s biggest movie bet at that time paid off: Deadline hears the streamer is in the early stages of putting together a back-to-back shoot of two Red Notice sequels, with the hope to begin production in early 2023, dependent on deals and the schedules of its busy stars.

Sources said Thurber has begun writing.

Netflix would not comment, but sources said the plan is to bring back the star trio and add new characters to flesh out a heist-film ensemble reminiscent of the starry Ocean’s Eleven franchise. Red Notice was sold in one of

‘To Catch A Thief’: Gal Gadot To Star In A Remake Of The Hitchcock Classic
In the age of remakes, reboots, and revivals, nothing is sacred. Not even a classic Hitchcock film is safe from Hollywood’s greedy little paws. In fact, if it was already a beloved film, such as the 1955 feature, “To Catch a Thief,” why wouldn’t you take the bones of the film, modernize it for today’s audiences and throw an A-lister like Gal Gadot in there and hope for huge profits?
