Belfast-based Causeway Pictures is launching its Irish Gothic label, which is focused on genre films that have inspiration from Irish legends.
Causeway MD Chris Patterson is teaming with writer/director Richard Crawford and writer/director Spence Wright to plan the ten-film slate to be produced over the next five years. The films will include Wright’s Vampires vs Leprechauns and the series Hy-Brasil set on a phantom island.
As Chris Patterson, explains, “Irish myths and legends are rich with wondrous and terrible creatures. The Irish Gothic banner will put them in front of a modern horror audience and create a lasting legacy that hopefully will become a genre of its own.”
The label kicked off last week in London at a stage reading, hosted by Northern Ireland Screen, of The Morrigan [pictured] by writer/director Richard Crawford.

Inception Media Group announced at the Toronto Film Festival that they pre-bought the North American rights for a pair of Irish horror films not set to begin production until the end of the year.
This is the first time they’ve ever done such a thing, and who can blame them when one is about volcanic ash cloud zombies overrunning Belfast and the other is titled Vampires vs. Leprechauns?
Variety brought us word that two films set to begin production in Northern Ireland before the end of the year already have a home on screens here in North America. Both films are produced by Causeway Pictures and are written by Spence Wright (Red Mist).

How's that for an irresistible headline? In any event, Screen Daily got the initial details about three new projects coming out of Cannes so rather than write three stories, they're all right here for ya! Dig it!
First up Little Studio Films has signed Mick Garris (Bag of Bones) to direct Invasion, which is allegedly based on true events surrounding a reporter’s investigation into a possible UFO conspiracy in Washington, DC. Casting is under way ahead of the start of production later this year. Sd reports that the Los Angeles-based company will represent all rights to the sci-fi thriller at the Cannes market. “Its tone and style are reminiscent of “Mad Men” and Close Encounters of the Third Kind but with a strong, unique female lead,” Little Studio Films partner Alexia Melocchi said.
From there comes word that Causeway Pictures has unveiled two new horror projects for the Cannes market.
