Goldfinch Studios adds four productions to Efm slate (exclusive)

UK production and sales company beefs up Efm roster.

UK-based Goldfinch Studios has unveiled its full slate of productions ahead of the European Film Market (Efm) in Berlin.

In October last year, financing outfit Goldfinch Entertainment teamed with York-based production company Gsp Studios to form Goldfinch Studios, which is now operating as a combined production, sales and financing company.

Goldfinch has four new productions on its slate, including a project from writer-director Carl Strathie, whose Steven Ogg and Alice Lowe-starring Solis is in post-production.

The latest project, which is currently casting up in pre-production, is a sci-fi titled The Encounter set in rural Philadelphia in the early 1980s that follows a family who are terrorised by otherworldly beings.

Further new productions include elevated genre project In The Hands Of Jesus from first-time director Oliver Vilas, Burners starring Rhianne Barreto, and period drama The Black Callant.

Myriad enters Efm with 'For Love Or Money'

Myriad Pictures handles international sales at the Efm this week on British comedy For Love Or Money starring Robert Kazinsky, Samantha Barks and Ed Speleers.

Mark Murphy wrote and direct the film about a business man who sets a trap for his ex and her friend after he suspects them of plotting o to relieve him of a small fortune.

The cast includes Tony Way, Rachel Hurd-Wood, and Anna Chancellor. For Love Or Money shot in the UK last year and is in post.

Myriad’s President Kirk D’Amico said, “we are delighted to be handling sales on this hilarious comedy. The filmmakers and cast have done a terrific job of setting up and paying off on the premise of a couple courting each other for reasons other than love”.

A Musical Based on Cher’s Life Headed to Broadway
Cher’s story and music is headed to Broadway.

The Cher Story, a new musical based on the life and career of the iconic singer, will open on Broadway next fall following a Chicago tryout.

“My life as a musical on Broadway. It seems crazy, exciting and bizarre -- but that's probably how my life seems to most people,” Cher said in a statement.

The production will debut with a limited engagement at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre on June 12, 2018, with tickets going on sale Oct. 18, before heading to the Broadway’s Neil Simon Theatre next fall.

The new “bio-musical” will feature a book by Tony-winner Rick Elice (Jersey Boys), choreography by Tony Award-winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies), and orchestrations, arrangements and musical supervision by Tony Award-winner Daryl Waters (Memphis). Jason Moore, the Tony-nominated director of Avenue Q and Pitch Perfect, will direct.

Vivian Ward made it to Rodeo Drive and now she’s going all the way to Broadway. “Pretty Woman” is headed to the stage. According to the BBC, “Les Misérables” actress Samantha Barks will play the role of Vivian, made famous by Julia Roberts in the 1990 romantic comedy the musical is based on. Steve Kazee (“Once”) is taking on the role of Edward Lewis, originally played by Richard Gere.

The story follows the romance between a sex worker and a womanizing corporate raider.

Set to begin performances on Broadway next autumn, the show will have a five-week run in Chicago from March 13 through April 15, 2018 at the Oriental Theatre.

The film’s director, the late Gary Marshall, and J.F. Lawton, who penned the screenplay, wrote the book for the production. “Pretty Woman” will feature original music by Grammy winner Bryan Adams.

The show’s lead producer, Paula Wagner, said to expect the musical to have the “heart, humor, warmth, and joy of the film.” She added, “We found two amazing, charismatic actors with incredible chemistry to play Vivian and Edward — the gorgeous triple-threat Samantha Barks, and one of Broadway’s most dashing and talented leading men, Steve Kazee.”

Pretty Woman” grossed over $463 million worldwide on a budget of $14 million. Roberts’ star-making role earned her a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination.
