Devoe Delivers the Sucker Punch in Episode “Lose Yourself” of ‘The Flash’

Warning : Potential Spoilers Ahead

After a light and entertaining episode, The Flash hits rock bottom in darkness, in the latest one. Clifford Devoe strikes the team Flash which causes tremors once and for all.

As we know from the earlier episodes, Thinker is on a mission and “Lose Yourself” provides the perfect platform for him to execute his dreaded evil plan. He absorbs both final bus meta Edwin Gauss, (aka The Folding Man) and last week’s gravity controlling metahuman, Janet Petty. None of these were huge when compared to Devoe taking over Ralph.

Hartley Sawyer’s Ralph Dibny had an interesting character arc this season. From being a comic relief to devoted superhero/sidekick, it was a 360-degree transformation. Losing him can be considered as a big liability for the Team Flash. Even Caitlin snow suffered a loss when DeVoe touched Caitlin, he triggered Melting Point’s ability

When a show such as The Flash remains on the air for four seasons or longer, it’s expected for the titular character to not only grow as a hero, but as a person as well. As such, an enduring love interest comes along with that. Clark Kent found his match in Lois Lane back when Smallville was still on, and Barry Allen has done likewise with Iris West on this particular series.

Now, some of you reading this may not really care about this specific aspect, defiantly sitting on the side of the fence opposite those “shippers,” but, let’s face it, relationships are a part of life. Given that, you’re going to need something to pad an hour of television because it can’t be just heroes punching bad guys from start to finish. After all, this isn’t Avengers Assemble.

It’s actually a bit surprising in many ways that it’s taken this long for the show to get around to this particular storyline.
