Social Media Entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk Lands His Own Shoe Deal

Gary Vaynerchuk is proving you don't need to be an NBA superstar to land your own shoe deal. The social media entrepreneur has attached his personal brand to the GaryVee 001 and GaryVee 002, a pair of sneaker designs launched by K-Swiss.

Both items in the GaryVee line feature black and green in their respective color schemes, though they are stylistically distinct. The 001 retails for $110, while the 002 sells for $85. Both footwear choices can be found on the K-Swiss online store, though at the time of this post, the men's versions of them are sold out. For women, both designs are still in stock. If you absolutely must get your hands on the GaryVee line, you can look for it among the handful of brick-and-mortar retailers that are listed on the K-Swiss website.

Vaynerchuk, a leader in the social marketing field thanks to his company VaynerMedia, began his partnership with K-Swiss earlier this year.

Former Wgn America Head Matt Cherniss Joins Apple

Matt Cherniss, the former president and general manager of Wgn America and Tribune Studios, has joined Apple to oversee development at their new worldwide video unit, Variety has confirmed.

He will serve under Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, the former presidents of Sony Pictures Television who joined the tech giant back in June to oversee the company’s growing push into original content.

Cherniss left Wgn America and Tribune after they were acquired by Sinclair Broadcasting, as Sinclair planned to shift focus away from producing original series. Peter Kern took over Tribune Media following the exit of CEO Peter Liguori, who announced his resignation in January. Cherniss had been with the network since March 2013. As Variety previously reported, Cherniss was a contender for vacant posts at both AMC and Sony Pictures Television. Sources say he was offered the chance to replace AMC’s president of original programming and development Joel Stillerman, who

Insights: Mary Meeker And Wwdc—A Week’s Peek Into Media’s (Voice-Activated) Future

It’s that time of year. Mary Meeker puts out her state of the Internet report, filled with a thousand little brain bombs, then Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference rolls out a batch of intriguing hardware and software goodies. In both, we see hints of where we’re headed with tech and the entertainment that tech now brings us.

And darned if mobile doesn’t look like it’s hitting important inflection points this year, shifting how we entertain ourselves, and how content is being paid for. There’s lots of money still left in traditional media, and lots more on the desktop PC, but long-arriving shifts toward mobile are finally here.

Consider these data points from Meeker’s mammoth 355-page presentation:

About 3.4 billion people, roughly half the world’s population, now use the Internet.

Around 2.8 billion people have smartphones.

U.S. adults now spend an average 5.6 hours a day watching digital media.

Planet of the Apps, which has been in the works for more than a year, is stylistically similar to ABC’s Shark Tank, but with a specific focus on mobile development. Guests pitch their app ideas to a panel that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, Gary Vaynerchuk, and series co-creator Will.i.am. The best ideas have a chance to earn funding from Vc firm Lightspeed Venture Partners.

TV Review: Apple’s ‘Planet of the Apps’

TV Review: Apple’s ‘Planet of the Apps’
These days, there’s an almost endless array of reasons for TV executives to feel anxiety, and for some time, one of the most ulcer-inducing prospects on the horizon was the idea of Apple diverting a sliver of its vast resources into making TV shows.

That day has come, and so far, there’s no reason to lose sleep over it.

Apple’s first offering, “Planet of the Apps,” feels like something that was developed at a cocktail party, and not given much more rigorous thought or attention after the pitcher of mojitos was drained.

It’s not terrible, but essentially, it’s a bland, tepid, barely competent knock-off of “Shark Tank.” Apple made its name on game-changing innovations, but this show is decidedly not one of them.

The program’s one slick innovation is the escalator pitch. You read that right; I didn’t mistype “elevator pitch.” The show begins with an overly brief set-up segment

Rich People Are Paying Gary Vaynerchuk’s Company $25,000 A Month To Create Social Media Content For Them

Gary Vaynerchuk’s VaynerMedia is best known for its work in the world of branded content, but one of the company’s recent ventures is catering to individuals who have cash to burn. The agency founded by its titular creator, entrepreneur, and oenophile is now offering VaynerTalent, which lets clients purchase their own social media team for at least $25,000 a month.

The specifics of how VaynerTalent were revealed in a recent Bloomberg profile of Quest Nutrition co-founder Tom Bilyeu, who is one of the wealthy individuals who has joined forces with VaynerTalent. As part of the deal, a VaynerMedia videographer follows Bilyeu around his office and captures raw footage, which is then cut into clips that can be shared through YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.

The target audience for VaynerTalent seems to be people like Bilyeu, who have a desire to expand their social media audience but little time to put
