The Originals Season Premiere Recap: It's Raining Men('s Blood)

Klaus Mikaelson has been a busy little beaver since we last saw him, much to the chagrin of all the corpses left in the wake of his European rampage.

The Originals returned (at last!) for its final season on Wednesday, picking back up after an eight-year time jump — and my how things have changed. Because the characters remain scattered all over creation (thanks, Hollow!), let’s start hopping the globe to see what our favorites were up to this week:

France | As I mentioned earlier, Klaus has spent the past few years getting back to his roots, ripping out hearts

The Originals Boss Previews Klaus' Clashes With Hope, Caroline and More in Final Season Premiere
Tonight’s premiere of The Originals‘ final season (The CW, 9/8c) may signify the beginning of the end for the Mikaelsons, but it’s also presents a “new beginning” for the flawed family.

“When you have such a significant time jump, you get the opportunity as storytellers to create the past for each of these characters,” executive producer Julie Plec tells TVLine. “As we meet them, we’re meeting them in a different time in a new place with a new attitude, so it really does feel like a clean beginning to the season.”

The Originals: What to Expect From Klaus and Caroline in Season 5

It’s been more than four years since Klaus Mikaelson and Caroline Forbes have appeared together on screen — not counting that Vampire Diaries phone call, of course — so fans are understandably eager for the duo’s reunion in the upcoming final season of The Originals.

But just how eager should they be? TVLine went to showrunner Julie Plec for the answer:

“I think what people can expect and count on is a nice thread of Caroline as a guiding counselor to Klaus in terms of fatherhood,” Plec teases. “She’s a mother, she lost her husband and she knows [Klaus] very
