Who doesn’t love a good revenge/vigilante movie? Death Wish, Rolling Thunder, The Exterminator, Vigilante, Walking the Edge... All classics of the genre made in a period some would call the “peak” of the genre in the late 70s/early 80s and all set a high standard for any film that followed. And there have been a Lot of similar films over the years. A lot. Including a remake of Death Wish from director Eli Roth that featured Bruce Willis in the headline role and it’s Willis’ name that used to sell Vendetta too. Though like a lot of his latter-day films prior to the shocking news of his illness and his retirement from acting,...

In “Vendetta,” a former U.S. Marine strikes back at the thugs who murdered his daughter, inciting a routine cycle of violence with occasional flashes of wit that feel like they were spliced in from a different, better movie. Most of those moments have little to do with the main narrative, which follows William Duncan as he tracks down the hooligans who executed his teenage daughter (Maddie Nichols) during an initiation rite.
His revenge angers Donnie Fetter (Bruce Willis), a street-level crime boss who orders his loose-cannon son Rory (Theo Rossi) to do away with William and his wife (Jackie Moore). Despite the warnings by a handwringing but ineffectual detective (Kurt Yue), who tells William violence can only beget more violence, the situation spirals out of control, as it always does in revenge thrillers of this kind. The body count starts to mount. So do the implausibilities, along with the boredom.

Lonely slacker Jonathan is stuck working night shifts at a convenience store. When he goes on a blind date with a strange woman, his world suddenly begins to unravel in horrifying fashion. Plagued by paranoia, illness and nightmarish visions, he desperately searches the suburbs for the mysterious seductress. His friends and family believe he’s losing his mind, but he believes he’s the target of a sinister occult plot.
The Black String comes from director Brian Hanson, who also co-wrote the film with Richard Handley – who also stars in the film as Dr. Ronaldi. For both this is their first feature, with Handley having penned some shorts previously. However in the case of Hanson is his first film period.

Supernatural Evil Forces Terrorize Frankie Muniz in Trailer For The Horror Thriller The Black String
It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen Malcom in the Middle star Frankie Muniz star in anything, but he’s got a horror movie coming out called The Black String and we have a trailer to share with you for it!
The Black String is a supernatural infection thriller that follows a character named Jonathan, “a lonely twenty-something, stuck in his hometown working night shifts at the local convenience store.” Jonathan’s life is turned upside down after he has an unexpected encounter with a mysterious woman. “Jonathan is stricken by illness and nightmarish visions. Friends and family believe he's losing his mind, but Jonathan is convinced he's the target of something far more sinister.”
The Black String was directed by first-time filmmaker Brian Hanson from a screenplay written by Richard Handley and Brian Hanson, which is based on a story by Andy Warrener. The movie also stars Chelsea Edmundson,...

"This is worse than poison." Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for an indie paranoia horror-thriller titled The Black String, which first premiered at the Austin Film Festival last year and is finally getting a direct-to-dvd/VOD release this fall. This stars Frankie Muniz (remember him?) as a twenty-something drifter whose life is turned upside down after an "unexpected encounter with a mysterious woman." He's soon overcome by illness and nightmarish visions. His friends believe he is losing his mind, but Jonathan is convinced he's the target of something far more sinister. The cast includes Chelsea Edmundson, Blake Webb, Jackie Moore, Alexander Ward, Ravi Patel, Cullen Douglas, and Angie DeGrazia. This looks a bit like It Follows, but twisted into a nightmarish, infection horror thriller. Maybe it's freakish fun? Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Brian Hanson's The Black String, direct from YouTube (via Bd): Jonathan (Frankie Muniz) is a lonely twenty-something,...

Pernicious, the new film from director James Cullen Bressack, stars Emmy-nominated Emily O’Brien (Young and the Restless), Ciara Hanna (Power Rangers) and Jackie Moore (100 Ghost Street) and tells of three young girls, holidaying in Thailand, who unleash the spirit of a murdered child with only one thing on her mind – revenge. So, first things first, how did you get the gig?
The director emailed me for a meeting, and I read the script and loved it
Did you do Pernicious because it was something totally different from Power Rangers?
I didn’t do the film to do the opposite of Power Rangers. I don’t try and get away from rangers. It’s a part of my life I am very proud of.

Thailand is the setting for bloody horror in “Pernicious,” from Benetone Films. “Pernicious,” directed by James Cullen Bressack and written by Bressack and Taryn Hillin, will be in theaters and On Demand June 19. The film stars Emmy-nominated “Young and the Restless” actress Emily O’Brien as well as Ciara Hanna (“Power Rangers”) and Jackie Moore (“100 Ghost Street.” Just from the trailer alone, you can see that the claims of a “carnival for the eyes” and a “sexy, bloody, and heinous” by Dread Central and Horror News are extremely apt. *full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by October Coast PR. **there are spoilers here. Director: James Cullen Bressack. Writers: James Cullen Bressack and Taryn Hillin. Cast: Ciara Hanna, Emily O'Brien and Jackie Moore. Pernicious is an indie horror feature from director James Cullen Bressack (Hate Crime). The film's title is synonymous with something that is harmful. And, the film follows several travellers in Thailand and the ghosts they meet. Based in supernatural superstition, Pernicious offers unpolished sound design, including Adr. The film also lifts much of its scares from Asian films of the past, including Ringu (1998) and Ju-on (2002). Though, the term scares is a misnomer as many of the potential horror elements are laughable. Overall, Pernicious is a cliche filled and disappointing indie horror outing. The film begins and stays with a trio of travellers. Alex (Ciarra Hanna) and Rachel (Jackie Moore) are sisters, while Julia (Emily O'Brien) is.

I’m always running a formula in my mind when I watch any movie or a horror movie in particular. Well, I’ve got some attractive ladies in a foreign land, this has got to be a kidnapping or a sex trafficking film. My sensibilities are my own worst enemy sometimes, because with James Cullen Bressack’s film “Pernicious”, it really is like that leftover Whitman’s sampler from Valentine’s Day. You never know what you are going to get.
It begins with three young women from the States arriving in Thailand for a humanitarian teaching gig.

Pernicious (adjective), definition:
causing insidious harm or ruin; ruinous; injurious; hurtful: pernicious teachings; a pernicious lie. deadly; fatal: a pernicious disease. Obsolete. evil; wicked.
Never has there been a film that so clearly lived up to its dictionary definition as James Cullen Bressack’s Pernicious. The film sees three beautiful girls arrive in Thailand to teach English and have a summer filled with adventure but none were prepared for what awaited them. Their nightmare begins when they trio pick up three strangers in a bar; three strangers who disappear with (seemingly) the girls jewelery and a golden statue that was left to rot in the attic, leaving behind only gore-filled dreams that haunt the girls sleep.

The first images from writer/director James Cullen Bressack's new revenge filled supernatural horror flick 'Pernicious' have been unleashed. And they couple together two of the most commonly merged themes in the genre; hotties in their underwear along with blood and gore. Described as a feature in a similar vein to that of Eli Roth's 'Hostel' and 'The Grudge' we should well be expecting plenty of supernatural shocks as well as typically gruesome torture. 'Pernicious' stars Ciara Hanna, Emily O'Brien, Jackie Moore, Russell Geoffrey Banks, Byron Gibson, Jack Prinya, Sohanne Bengana, Jared Cohn and Sara Malakul Lane. Head below to check out the new gallery....

Today’s feature includes details on a Wes Craven art exhibition, the first sighting of Megafoot, a 100 zombie films graphical print, first photos from Australian Horror film, Barrow, an interview with actor, writer, and filmmaker Sean Stone, and much more:
The Horror Legacy of Wes Craven Exhibit Details: “Wes Craven has been feeding our collective horror consciousness since 1972, when his first feature, “The Last House on the Left,” debuted. I made a promise to myself that I’d review as many horror films as possible in 2014, so I started last night off by jumping on Xbox, pulling up the most recent VOD horror flick, and giving it a rent – like a game of cinematic Russian Roulette. The film I ended up with? Army Of The Damned, a film bringing together Sully Erna (lead singer of Godsmack), Candyman (Tony Todd), Joey Fatone (*N Sync/exploiter of fat jokes), Michael Berryman (Pluto – no, not the dog – from The Hills Have Eyes) and Nick Principe (ChromeSkull in Laid To Rest). If some of those names mean nothing to you, then you’re not a horror fan, and you’ve certainly stumbled upon the wrong review – or you somehow missed that wretched decade where boy bands ruled the universe. Either this cast was going to be supergroup-status awesome, or Frankenstein monster horrendous – but we’ll get to that.

If you're a horror fan anywhere near Worcester, Ma, don't walk, Run to one of the most beloved horror conventions on the East Coast. Of course we're talking about Rock and Shock!
You want celebrity guests? Rock and Shock's got 'em in spades. And some really unique convention celeb guests at that. Like Scott Wilson ("The Walking Dead"), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, "The X-Files"), Sharknado director Anthony C. Ferrante and Jason Simmons ("Charmed") making their first ever convention appearances. How about horror icons Robert Englund, Michael Rooker, Gunnar Hansen, Kane Hodder, and Sid Haig; famous horror author Joe Knetter; and Twisted Sister frontman and all-around horror dude Dee Snider? They'll all be there carousing with the fans. One thing many Rock and Shock veterans always comment on is the laid back atmosphere of the festival and how the celebs feel comfortable just milling around with the fans.

Atlantic Rim may be a cheap, DVD imitation of Pacific Rim, but it also works remarkably well as an unofficial prequel, Ryan writes...
History is full of uncanny coincidences. Mark Twain was born on the day Halley's Comet swung by Earth in 1835, and died when it hurtled around again in 1910. The writer Morgan Robertson wrote a book about the sinking of a huge ocean-going liner 14 years before the Titanic collided with an iceberg in 1912. And by an uncanny twist of fate, last month saw the release of Atlantic Rim, which appears to have anticipated Guillermo del Toro's giant-robots-versus-giant-monsters flick Pacific Rim by several weeks.
American film studio The Asylum has a spooky knack of releasing its own similarly-named film just before a major blockbuster. Transmorphers appeared just before Transformers in 2007. I Am Omega appeared at around the time of I Am Legend. Other...

To say that producer Chad A. Verdi has made a splash on the horror industry would be quite the understatement. In just the last two years he has produced films starring Robert Englund, Tony Todd, Michael Berryman and many more.
And he's just getting started.
Verdi inked a four-picture deal with Screen Media guaranteeing him distribution for his films before they were even made. A monumental feat for an independent film company. Now Verdi continues to add to his catalog of films, and even landed legendary director Martin Scorsese to co-produce a project he's always dreamed of making.
Verdi recently sat down with Dread Central to talk about his recently wrapped film Army of the Damned and his upcoming projects. "I feel Army of the Damned is the best horror movie we've made yet. No question about it," Verdi said. I think the actors came in, they delivered and with...

Recently Woodhaven Pictures invited Dread Central to visit the set of their newest project, Army of the Damned, and the cast was so unique that we had to take them up on the offer. This is the conclusion of our set visit report.
Our first article on the Army of the Damned set visit contained interviews with Tony Todd, Nick Principe, Tommy Dreamer, Thea Trinidad, Maria Kanellis and Jackie Moore. Read on to see who shows up in Part Two.
He's a newcomer to the acting business, but certainly not to entertaining audiences. Sully Erna, lead singer of rock band Godsmack, made his feature film debut in Army of the Damned. "This is my first lead in a movie and it's cool," Erna said. "It's an action/horror and there's some good sarcastic New England humor in it. They put me together with three other cops that play beside me.

It's not often we hear of a cast as unique as the one producer Chad A. Verdi and Woodhaven Pictures put together for their upcoming film Army of the Damned. So when we got an invite to visit the Rhode Island set, it was a no-brainer.
Headlined by horror legend Tony Todd, the cast was an amazingly diverse bunch, and we got a chance to talk to all of them about their experiences filming Army of the Damned. There were so many key contributors to this movie that we had to break our report into a two-part series; in this section we talk with Todd, horror mainstay Nick Principe, wrestling legend Tommy Dreamer, gorgeous wrestlers Maria Kanellis and Thea Trinidad and one of Army of the Damned female leads, Jackie Moore.
We figured there was no one better to talk to on the set first than the icon, Tony Todd.

The Asylum, the company that specializes in mockbusters, has got another one in store for the record books. This one is Atlantic Rim, (though it goes without saying) a spoof of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Take a gander at a film destined to be watched in a room filled with smoke and Cheeto’s. It looks great in a delicious B-movie way, with some surprisingly effective FX.
The parody stars Graham Greene, David Chokachi, Anthony “Treach” Criss and Jackie Moore.

Atlantic Rim may look like lawsuit bait after the last year’s legal woes The Asylum had over their Battleship and Hobbit mockbusters. It better not because it also looks pretty damn cool if you’re like me and believe you can never have enough movies about giant robots battling giant monsters.
Now that I think about it, “to fight monsters we created monsters” could almost be The Asylum’s mantra when it comes to competing all these years in a marketplace dominated by big Hollywood blockbusters.
