What Do You Want to Know About 'The Mortal Instruments'?

We've been following the progress on Sony Screen Gems' "The Mortal Instruments" with bated breath for what seems like years now - inch by inch, casting announcement by casting announcement - so we're as amped as any Shadowhunter out there that things are finally underway for production on the book-to-film adaptation of Cassandra Clare's first installment "City of Bones," the same movie which you voted (overwhelmingly) to be summer 2013's most anticipated.

Even better, we'll be heading up to the Toronto set very shortly to get the goods on production from Cassie Clare herself - along with director Harald Zwart and the series' principle castmembers Lily Collins (Clary Fray), Jamie Campbell Bower (Jace Wayland), Robert Sheehan (Simon Lewis), Kevin Zegers (Alec Lightwood), Jemima West (Isabelle Lightwood) and Godfrey Gao (Magnus Bane) - and we'd love to hear what you'd like to know from the stars!

Jamie Campbell Bower, Lily Collins Are Shadowhunter Fierce On Set Of The Mortal Instruments

Part of me is demon green with jealousy right now as I check out pictures from day one on the set of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. If they were shooting where the movie takes place, I would be playing hookie and watching Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower blocks away from my own home in Park Slope, Brooklyn. But yeah, I get it, New York is expensive to shoot in, so I guess most of the time, Toronto will be stepping in for the role of my — and Simon Lewis and Clary Fray’s — ‘hood. I will instead be very happy for the fans up north who are getting glimpses of Bower, sporting his brand new Shadowhunter runes (those tattoos on his chest, for the uninitiated), Collins with her newly died red tresses, Robert Sheehan being generally adorable and Simon-like, and Jemima West (Isabelle) and Kevin Zegers (Alec

All You Need to Know About 'The Mortal Instruments' Cast (So Far)

Fans of Cassandra Clare's "The Mortal Instruments" series will agree that casting for the "City of Bones" movie has been one hellaciously long process. Consider this: The first actor announcement came down nearly two years ago.

However, as the spiffy new official movie website for "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" now shows, there are very few spaces left open on the casting roster. In fact, this week "The Tudors" star Jonathan Rhys Meyers might've nabbed the biggest opening left (he's reportedly in talks to star as Valentine Morgenstern, the brainy and sadistic arch-villain of the series).

The loose ends are really starting to tie up on the project, and it's about time seeing as production is expected to at long last begin on August 15. So, to give you a handy who's who in the newly developed "Mortal Instruments" cast family, we assembled the low-down on everyone — Shadowhunters, High Warlocks and human sidekicks-turned-rats alike.

You probably had no idea you had room in your heart for another gorgeous vampire best friend/crush after Edward Cullen. Unless of course you’ve read Cassandra Clare‘s Mortal Instruments series, in which case you are already half in love with Simon Lewis, the adorable undead Brooklyn nerdlinger who’s besties with protagonist Clary Fray. Jay Basu Casts Merlin into “Contemporary Setting”

Merlin is in the upper echelon of fictional wizards* along with Gandalf, Harry Potter, and the The Great and Powerful Oz. Having first appeared in Arthurian legend in 1136, Merlin predates them all, but arguably lacks the definitive on-screen portrayal of the latter three.

Author/screenwriter Jay Basu’s take on Merlin may not change that, but it ought to be fresh. Working Title has picked up a Basu film pitch that brings Merlin into “a contemporary setting.”

Merlin. Present day. That’s about all we know so far, but the character has a rich history; hit the jump for background information on Merin.

Merlin is a legendary figure best known as the wizard featured in the Arthurian legend. The standard depiction of the character first appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regum Britanniae, written c. 1136, and is based on an amalgamation of previous historical and legendary figures. Geoffrey combined
