The Starz network has decided to end its historical drama “The Serpent Queen” following the airing of its second season finale in August. The show told the story of Catherine de’ Medici and her rise to become the powerful Queen of France in the 16th century. Starz launched the series in 2022 to explore the life of Catherine de’ Medici and her influence over French politics for over 30 years through intriguing plots and dynamic characters.

Based on a book by historian Leonie Frieda, “The Serpent Queen” starred Samantha Morton as Catherine de’ Medici. It traced her journey from an Italian teenager married into French royalty to a shrewd leader who dominated decisions shaping France. The Serpent Queen will not be returning for a third season at Starz, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The news comes a little more than a month after the season two finale aired in August. The Serpent Queen, based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda, is about the life of Catherine de’ Medici, the 16th century Queen of France.

In the second season, Catherine’s grip on power is tested as she faces power struggles, conflicts and betrayals while attempting to unite France. The show, created by Justin Haythe (The Lone Ranger), starred Samantha Morton as Catherine, in addition to Amrita Acharia, Enzo Cilenti, Ruby Bentall, Nicholas Burns, Beth Goddard, Raza Jaffrey and Danny Kirrane.

When, one day, Martha (Jessica Gunning), an overweight middle-aged woman who claims to be a successful lawyer but can’t afford a cup of tea, sits down at the bar, Donny offers it to her on the house. Killer Weekend will be released by Dark Sky Films. This horror comedy was originally released in the United Kingdom, in May of last year. Originally titled Fubar, this film has been renamed for a release in the United States. Developed by writers Ben Kent (Love Bug) and Joel Wilenius, this film involves a stag part, taking place on a paintball battlefield. Then, psychotic soldiers turn up to keep the groomsmen on their toes. To release in February, Killer Weekend stars: Mark Heap (Upstart Crow), Danny Kirrane (Don't Forget the Driver) and Ewen MacIntosh (Shed of the Dead). From director Ben Kent (Love Bug), Fubar involves a wedding Stag and an old nuclear bunker. When the group opens the door to the bunker, something is released and a strange situation develops. This zombie title has been making its rounds on the film festival circuit; Fubar had a recent appearance at the LAMANOFest in Spain, this past November. Production outfit Iron Box Films has today announced that Georgia Hirst (Vikings), Danny Kirrane (Games of Thrones), Manpreet Bambra (Free Rein), Maria Volk (Wolf Creek 2) and Kamal Angelo Bolden (Chicago Fire) will round out the cast of Bernhard Pucher’s Ravers. Actress Natasha Henstridge (Species) will also take on a cameo role.

Georgia Hirst (Vikings), Danny Kirrane (Games Of Thrones), Manpreet Bambra (Free Rein), Maria Volk (Wolf Creek 2) and Kamal Angelo Bolden (Chicago Fire) will lead the cast of Ravers, Bernhard Pucher’s horror which commenced shooting at Pinewood Studio Wales yesterday.

The project comes from London-based production outfit Iron Box Films, which is led by Pucher as creative director with CEO Raimund Berens, who will produce with Michael Dobbin. Exec producers are Colin Brown, chair of Iron Box’s financing arm Iron Box Capital, and Deepak Sikka from The Works.

The screenplay is written by Pucher and Luke Foster. The story follows an illegal rave in a factory that turns into a nightmare due to contaminated energy drinks.

The project will shoot at Pinewood Wales for six weeks.

Sky1 has confirmed the launch date for new series Critical.

The medical drama will premiere on the channel on Tuesday, February 24.

The 13-part series is told in real-time like 24 and focuses on a hospital's trauma unit.

The series is written by Line of Duty's Jed Mercurio and reunites him with actor Lennie James, who stars as trauma consultant Glen Boyle.

The show also stars Catherine Walker (Strike Back), Claire Skinner (Outnumbered) and Kimberley Nixon (Fresh Meat).

The Critical cast is completed by Neve McIntosh, Prasanna Puwanarajah, John MacMillan, Ellen Thomas, Mali Harries, Paul Bazely, Danny Kirrane, Peter Sullivan, Emma Fryer, Orion Lee and Juliet Oldfield.

Critical is Mercurio's first medical drama since his work on Bodies in 2006. He also wrote Cardiac Arrest for the BBC between 1994 and 1996.

A trio of new faces sign up to appear opposite Johnny Depp in Pirates Of The Caribbean 5...

Direcors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg start filming the next Pirates Of The Caribbean movie in the next week or so, with production set for Australia. Sets have been openly under construction there these past few weeks.

The cast so far includes Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Brendon Thwaites and Javier Bardem. The Maze Runner's Kaya Scodelario is also on board.

Now we learn of three more faces signing up for duty.

Adam Brown, Delroy Atkinson and Danny Kirrane are the latest additions. Brown popped up in The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies previously, Delroy Atkinson has Still Crazy on his CV, whilst Danny Kirrane had a role in Automata.

"Star Wars" actor Hayden Christensen has joined Kris Renkewitz's WW2 set action-horror film "Untot" at Solaris Entertainment. Greg O'Connor will produce and filming begins in New York City in March.

The story follows an elite military unit commanded by Lt. Fredrick Hank (Christensen) who is dropped behind enemy lines in the mountains of Poland in order to destroy a secret Nazi weapons facility. What they encounter is something they've never been trained for. [Source: THR]

Black Lung

Amanda Seyfried ("Mamma Mia") and Theo James ("Divergent") will headline the supernatural thriller "Black Lung" at 2929 Prods. and Cooper's Town Prods. Cary Fukunaga ("True Detective") will executive produce and filming begins this Summer.

Chase Palmer penned the script and will make his feature film directing debut on the project about a young wife whose premonition about a pending disaster saves her husband, but puts her under suspicion when an explosion entombs a group of miners.

Lennie James has signed up to star in Sky1's new medical drama Critical.

The Line of Duty star has been cast as trauma consultant Glen Boyle in the ensemble drama, which takes place in real-time over each one-hour episode.

Strike Back actress Catherine Walker will play trauma registrar Fiona Lomas, while Outnumbered's Claire Skinner will appear as trauma consultant Lorraine Rappaport.

Fresh Meat star Kimberley Nixon has signed up to play junior doctor 'Harry' Bennett-Edwardes.

Created by Line of Duty's Jed Mercurio, the 13-part series, set in a state-of-the-art Major Trauma Centre, will focus on a different story during each episode.

The drama will follow the team of medical professionals as they make knife-edge decisions that could mean the difference between whether a patient lives or dies.

Mercurio said: "Sky has given the Critical team a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create the most realistic and thrilling medical drama.
