If a trillion-dollar shopping giant wants to cough up half a bill on the boss’ favorite fantasy franchise, then who are we to complain? Fair points, to be sure, but the opposition argument focused on the bigger picture: “Think of all the other shows Amazon could’ve made with $465 million. Think of all the other artists who could’ve been working on those shows.

Exclusive: Prime Video is planning another big splash for its hit series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power at San Diego Comic-Con.

This year at Sdcc, ahead of the series’ Season 2 premiere on August 29, the streamer will host an exclusive press and influencer reception by invitation only on Thursday, July 25, in San Diego. It will be followed by The Rings of Power panel in Hall H on Friday from 11:05 a.m.-12:15 p.m. featuring the series’ showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay as well as cast giving fans a inside look at Season 2 in Middle-earth.

Afterward, at 1:45 p.m. at Venue 808 in San Diego, a fan meet-and-greet with cast will be held in conjunction with the official Lord of the Rings fan site TORn (TheOneRing.net). On display will be a curated collection of Season 2’s costumes and props.

It was announced on Monday (20 March) that three new actors will appear in the forthcoming season.

Attempting to one-up the wildly successful first season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." After introducing us to a brand-new batch of characters and getting all the necessary table-setting out of the way, season 2 appears set to pick up where the finale left off and run with it. The first step to realizing that ambition, of course, means adding even more major players to the ensemble. Less than a week after the first batch of new names were announced to join the sophomore effort of this epic fantasy streaming series, yet another group of actors have joined the cast in what's being described as recurring roles.

What are those roles, exactly? Well, as has been the case, those details remain locked...

One of two major fantasy television hits this year came in the form of a Lord of the Rings show. Amazon’s The Rings of Power boasted huge numbers when the big-budget series premiered. It was a big investment for the streaming company and the Tolkien brand, Middle-Earth Productions, looks to expand to many areas of media for the franchise.

Season 2 was inevitable for the show, and Amazon Studios has just announced the cast for the next year of the series:

After being absent from the big screen since Peter Jackson's original trilogy, J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved Lord of the Rings universe returned in 2022, but this time as a television series on Prime Video. Set in the Second Age of Middle-earth's mythology, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power became a massive hit for the streaming service. The eight new members join previously announced Season 2 additions Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen “Zates” Atour, Ben Daniels, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle and Nicholas Woodeson.

Sam Hazeldine was also recently announced as a replacement for “Game of Thrones” alumnus Joseph Mawle as antagonist Adar.

As is custom for the series, character details for all are being kept under wraps.

Lynch broke out in Netflix’s second season of “Bridgerton” with the role of Theo Sharpe, a love interest of sorts to the stubborn Eloise (Claudia Jessie). Other television credits include Channel 4’s “Derry Girls” and BBC’s “Mrs. Wilson.

As with past announcements, character details for the new additions to the cast are being kept under wraps. Season 2 of “The Rings of Power” is currently in production in the U.K., with Season 1 having launched worldwide on Amazon earlier this year beginning in September 2022. The season finale dropped on Oct. 14.

This is the second casting announcement for the series in as many weeks. It was previously revealed that seven actors were joining the series, including Sam Hazeldine, who will take over the role of Adar from Joseph Mawle in the second season.

Hellraiser (1987) casts a long shadow over the horror world. The original film, directed by Clive Barker, is a remarkably faithful adaptation of his own novella “The Hellbound Heart,” a twisted love story of forbidden passion and pain. The hotly anticipated reboot from director David Bruckner stars Jaime Clayton as the Priest and Odessa A’zion as new final girl, Riley. A recovering addict, Riley stumbles upon the Lament Configuration and finds herself dragged into the world of its painful magic.

Also drawn to the box is Roland Voight (Goran Visnjic), a wealthy entrepreneur obsessed with the power of the occult. On the surface, Bruckner’s new vision of the story bears only symbolic resemblance to Barker’s original novella The Hellbound Heart, but upon closer examination there are several thematic connections lurking just beneath the skin.

The film summons forth a new batch of Cenobites, led by Jamie Clayton’s Hell Priest. Bloody Disgusting spoke with the actors behind The Chatterer (Jason Liles), The Gasp (Selina Lo), and The Weeper (Yinka Olorunnife) about getting into character and how the makeup and prosthetics informed their performances.

The hierarchy and lore behind the new batch of Cenobites isn’t something explicitly discussed in Hellraiser but rather hinted at through the performances and interactions between them. The trio’s answers to our questions provided fascinating insight into their roles.

Recreating the nightmarish visions of Clive Barker’s “Hellraiser” was always going to be a mammoth task. “It’s the top tier of both the most rewarding dream job and the hardest thing we’ve ever had to do,” recalled Josh Russell, the special makeup effects supervisor on Hulu’s remake of the 1987 horror classic. “This was the biggest creature effects movie shooting anywhere in the world at the time.”

A significant factor in the new film’s success or failure was the creation of the hellish Cenobites, whose leader, Pinhead, is a horror icon on the level of Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, or Leatherface. Russell’s initial stab at ensuring that success took place on an accelerated timeline: Presented with finished designs from lead concept designer Keith Thompson, Russell and his wife, Sienna, had just three days to prep for a meeting with the studio.

David Bruckner's new film "Hellraiser," a remake of Clive Barker's 1987 film, features a mysterious puzzle box at its center. When solved, the puzzle magically summons a cadre of unusual, monstrous being called Cenobites. The Cenobites are in a constant state of full-body mutilation, and have wires and pins lining their anatomy, carefully holding flaps of skin and muscle tissue aloft, assuring them the greatest possible pain. For the Cenobites, though, extreme pain is merely the height of sensory experience. In Barker's original, the pain was the extreme of sexuality. In Bruckner's film, the pain leads the Cenobites to a more spiritual, holy experience. In aching for outer reaches of physical experience, the Cenobites -- once human -- have transformed themselves. Their goal, now, is to convert other interested parties.

David Bruckner’s Hellraiser reboot is now streaming exclusively on Hulu, and today 20th Century Studios takes us behind the scenes for a look at the film’s brand new Hell Priest.

Titled “Becoming the Priest,” the short featurette video introduces Jamie Clayton as the new Hell Priest (aka Pinhead), showing off time lapse video footage of the incredible makeup.

“The makeup takes four hours to do, and about 45 minutes to an hour to remove,” Clayton explains. She describes the gruesome new look, “It’s so beautiful. Oh, it’s wild.”

After more than 20 years, the first "Hellraiser" movie to be given a major studio release has finally been unleashed. With most of the franchise being relegated to low-budget direct-to-video schlock, it is a breath of fresh air to see Pinhead and their gash of Cenobites return, even if we would have preferred to see them in theaters instead of on Hulu. However, that's beside the point, because what matters is that they are back in all their horrific glory.

"Hellraiser" does some pretty interesting things with the established lore of the franchise while also feeling like its own thing. Nowhere is this more apparent than the changes made to the franchise's famous box -- in David Bruckner's take, solving the box to total completion after five sacrifices will allow the user to be granted a wish.

When Jamie Clayton was announced as taking on the coveted role as Pinhead/The Hell Priest/Lead Cenobite in "Hellraiser," there was a ridiculous display of stupidity as transphobic fans lamented the franchise had "gone woke." The hilarious irony, of course, is that "Hellraiser" creator Clive Barker is one of the most openly gay horror creators in history, and has been extremely vocal about how the underground gay Bdsm scene was a huge influence on the aesthetic of the Cenobites.

Lgbtqia+ creators are foundational to the birth and success of horror as a film genre, so for anyone to decry "Hellraiser" as having somehow turned political is not only ahistorical, it's so beyond ignorant that it's worthy of mockery. While the latter installments of the "Hellraiser" franchise aren't nearly as embedded in gay subculture as the first few, there's no denying that...

Review: The Hellraiser franchise has had to weather a lot of mediocre sequels, nine to be exact, since Clive Barker’s directorial debut unleashed Pinhead upon the cinematic world. Defining the sadomasochistic world of the Cenobites, Barker’s 1987 horror film has ranked as one of the most iconic horror creations of all time. In the decades since, multiple filmmakers have tried to deepen the mythology of the original story by giving us origin stories and alternate realities featuring the puzzle box and demonic entities. None of these films has managed to evoke the sinister feel of the first movie or capitalize on the story’s potential until now.

In 1987, Clive Barker unleashed "Hellraiser," his stylish, artistic, gooey, kinky horror pic adapted from his own novella, "The Hellbound Heart." The film became a big hit and introduced audiences to the cenobites, a group of S&m creatures — angels to some, demons to others — who are summoned from untold dimensions by a puzzle box to offer people unspeakable pleasures and pain. The leader of the group, Pinhead, instantly became iconic, and when that sort of thing happens, sequels follow. Sure enough, a total of 10 films came out of the "Hellraiser" world, each more disappointing than the last. The series became dire, taking unused scripts for thrillers and clumsily shoe-horning Pinhead into the mix.
