‘The Convent’ Trailer: Horror Is Back in the Habit With These Creepy Nuns

Vertical Entertainment has unveiled the trailer for “The Convent,” which seeks to answer an age-old question: How many horror movies about nuns does America have room in its heart for? Continuing a trend reignited by last year’s “The Conjuring” spinoff “The Nun” and dating back to the likes of “To the Devil a Daughter” and “Mother Joan of the Angels,” Paul Hyett’s film is very much back in the habit. Watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis: “In the early 17th century, innocent young Persephone is falsely accused and put on trial for her life. Her fate seems sealed except for the timely intervention of the mysterious Reverend Mother offering her not just sanctuary, but hope. ‘Ugly Sweater Party’ VOD Review

  • Nerdly
Stars: Charles Chudabala, Hunter Johnson, Lara Jean Mummert, Felissa Rose, Sean Whalen, Kevin Caliber, Berna Roberts, Jennifer Nangle, Gregory Blair, Colton Wheeler, Jody Barton, Brad Potts | Written and Directed by Aaron Mento

I think we can now say it is officially the festive season. So this means that I will try to watch as many Christmas movies as humanly possible throughout December (and the end of November). Ugly Sweater Party comes under the banner of Christmas horror comedy, so it hasn’t got a whole lot of competition.

I have previously enjoyed director Aaron Mento’s work. Starting with the unique and entertaining Standards of Living and then moving on to the very clever series idea of Choose Their Kill (look it up and enjoy), so when I discovered he was the director of Ugly Sweater Party my expectations were a little higher. And it has some similarities with the

Frightfest 2018: 10 Questions with ‘Heretiks’ director Paul Hyett

  • Nerdly
What first attracted you to actor Gregory Blair’s script?

When Templeheart gave me the script of Heretiks (although it was a different title at the time), the one thing that really grabbed my interest was the opportunity to do a creepy period horror, set in 17th Century England. I’d already shot a war-set film, a contemporary werewolf film and here was an opportunity to do a film set in the 17th century where young girls were put on trial for witchcraft, of which some were drowned, hanged and so much worse. It was a truly dark and fearful time in the history of England, one that I was keen to portray on screen, and adding to that a supernatural element, was hard to resist.

What did you and your Seasoning House co-writer Conal Palmer bring to the final screenplay?

Conal and I did an extensive rewrite, as I remember,

Heretiks Promises Forgiveness But Delivers Terrible Sights in this First Trailer

Tagline: "Forgive Us Our Sins." The first trailer for Heretiks has debuted today. The clip shows a woman accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death. However, a reverend intervenes and gives her a second chance to conquer her demons. Heretiks was directed by Paul Hyett (Howl), from a script written by Gregory Blair (Deadly Revisions) and Conal Palmer (The Seasoning House). Heretiks also stars Michael Ironside (Patient Seven), Clare Higgins (Hellraiser) and Hannah Arterton. This title is expected to have its World Premiere at this year's Frightfest, in London. Fans with a strong stomach can find the eye-popping trailer below. The synopsis for Heretiks begins with Persephone's (Arterton) trial. She is rescued before deliberation by the Reverend Mother (Higgins). However, in an isolated Priory, the spirits of evil continue to pursue Persephone. What sins have drawn such demonic forces to her? The World Premiere, for Heretiks, is scheduled for August 25th.
