Lisa Cole is a dynamic Writer, Director, and Producer creating films that drive social change. Her short, "Bienvenidos a Los Angeles," based on a true immigration story, was Oscar Shortlisted for Best Live Action Short Film 2024, and won the 2023 Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase, sponsored by Viola Davis.
Cole has several feature films in development inspired by true stories that tackle pressing societal issues, including "Diamond Girls" for Flora Films, with Selena Gomez attached to star, and "Girl Named Sue" with acclaimed producers Laura Bickford and Nathan Ross.
Cole's unique background, shaped by living with 201 host families in 12 countries in just three years, deeply influences her storytelling and desire to bridge cultural gaps. Her work has led to creative collaborations with industry heavyweights, including Laura Dern, Jean-Marc Vallee, Shailene Woodley, Catherine Hardwicke, Lily Rabe, Demi Moore, and Michael London. A Regional Finalist Winner of the Student Academy Awards, Cole's short films have screened at more 100+ festivals worldwide. She honed her craft directing and producing documentaries for Viacom, A&E, Sundance, and The Gates Foundation, shedding light on critical issues, including women's health and safety in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya. Cole serves on the Board of the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and resides in Los Angeles with her documentary filmmaker husband, Mark Monroe, and their two children.
