How did you get involved in Popeye the Slayer Man and why was this a project you wanted to be a part of?
Sarah Nicklin: This was a lucky case where it was offered to me. I’ve been friends with the producers and director for 15 years now in some cases and we always wanted to work together, but it just hadn’t worked out yet.

First there was Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Then came news of Screamboat, another horror comedy based on a beloved cartoon character that recently entered the public domain, in this case the version of Mickey Mouse seen in Steamboat Willie. Now, get ready for the latest effort, Popeye the Slayer Man, a grisly take on the spinach-chewing, big-forearmed sailor who rose to popularity in the 1930s with a series of cartoons by Max Fleischer.
The film's official synopsis reads: "A curious group of friends sneak into an abandoned spinach canning factory to film a documentary on the legend of the "Sailor Man," who is said to haunt the factory and local docks." Naturally, the group of friends meets the legendary Popeye, here re-imagined as a rage-filled slasher killer, and are offed by the Slayer Man in overly violent fashion. Fans of gore will definitely be pleased by the film's newly released Red Band trailer.

I can promise you've never seen Popeye the Sailor quite like this before. Cashing in on the latest trend in the horror genre of taking beloved characters from the public domain and turning them into gruesome slashers, Jeff Miller is producing new horror movie titled Popeye the Slayer Man, coming in 2025.
The film is described as providing an "alternate backstory for the legendary sailor," in short, now he's a murderer. Why? Because the spinach he's so famous for consuming in large quantities has been contaminated.
An open can with a faint toxic glow is visible in the teaser, as is this new bloated and grotesque version of the titular "slayer" man. It's clear that this movie won't shy away from gore. The teaser shows a few moments, including Popeye crushing one character's head and another stepping directly onto a nail. Popeye even delivers his catchphrase, "I am what I am,...

Two separate horror films based on the iconic character Popeye are being released next year. Shiver me timbers!
Mention the words ‘Popeye film’ and the chances are you’ll cast your mind back to Robert Altman’s 1980 live action take on the character which, while flawed, was tremendous fun. It also featured arguably one of the greatest, most accurate pieces of casting ever in the form of Shelly Duvall as Olive Oyl, who appeared alongside Robin Williams in his film debut as the title character. Fervent fans can even visit the set, which is still standing today as a theme park attraction in Malta.
The notion of taking established, family friendly characters and dropping them into their own horror films began with Winnie the Pooh: Bloody And Honey, Rhys Frake Waterfield’s low-budget slasher that became a profitable hit on home video and streaming, which led to this year’s...

The first-look images have been revealed for Popeye the Slayer Man. The upcoming horror movie follows a group of friends sneaking into an abandoned spinach factory to film a documentary on "the Sailor Man," who is believed to haunt the factory. Popeye the Slayer Man is in the same vein of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey's horror, which takes an iconic public domain character and gives them a new, frightening story that is not suitable for children.
Deadline has shared the first images that show Popeye transformed into a terrifying figure shrouded in mystery, along with one of the individuals who has snuck into the factory, unaware that he is watching her. Jason Stephens plays this sinister version of Popeye with a cast that also includes Code Black's Angela Relucio and Black Mass' Sarah Nicklin. We can’t spoil too much but we have an extensive lore that you’re going to have to check out once Round the Decay is released.”
Check out the exclusive images along with the film’s poster art below.

In the dead of winter, the time of their lives has just run out in Everwinter Night. The indie horror-comedy is described as Midsommar meets Chasing Amy by way of The Shining.
Watch an exclusive clip from the film’s 1994-set prologue below, along with Marc Schoenbach’s retro-inspired poster art.
The unique blend of slow-burn tension, quirky humor, and chilling horror is directed by Adam Newman from a script he co-wrote with Chris Goodwin. Victoria Mirrer, McKenna Parsons, Goodwin, Jamie Dufault, and indie horror darling Sarah Nicklin star.
“Lifelong best friends Maddy and V set out for a relaxing vacation. When their old college clique hijack their plans, V finds herself at a remote ski lodge where a group of mysterious wealthy men throw a celebration a century in the making.”
The unconventional production was the result of a different movie being cancelled at the last minute due to unforeseen complications.

While we keep waiting to hear distribution news for the Blind (watch it Here, read my review at This Link) sequel Pretty Boy, the film’s creative team is continuing to create. Last year, we heard that filming had wrapped on a giallo thriller called That’s a Wrap, the first film from Neon Noir, a production company formed by Blind and Pretty Boy director Marcel Walz, screenwriter Joe Knetter, and star Sarah French. Now production has also wrapped on the second Neon Noir project, a horror film called Garden of Eden!
Directed by Walz from a script by Knetter, Garden of Eden has the following synopsis: The Eden family are devout Christians and do everything they can to live the word of God and set an example of what is right and wrong. They have been very successful in business and are rich beyond their needs. In order to give back,...

Neon Noir, the production company formed by Marcel Walz, Sarah French and Joe Knetter, has wrapped principal photography on their second movie, titled Garden of Eden.
Bloody Disgusting has been told that the film, shot in the LA area, “tackles heavy subject matter that will no doubt lead to some controversy during its planned film festival run.”
Exclusively check out two first-look images plus the poster and expect more soon.
In Garden of Eden, “The Eden family are devout Christians and do everything they can to live the word of God and set an example of what is right and wrong. They have been very successful in business and are rich beyond their needs. In order to give back, the family throws garden parties. Each guest that is lucky enough to find a key gets to have their most wished for dream come true. But a dream for some can be a nightmare for others.

I’ve always been fond of documentaries that explore the deeper echelon of horror, and especially those that sit down with a plethora of actors and filmmakers to discuss a variety of topics. That’s what The Horror Crowd is all about, with veteran insider Ruben Pla taking us on a journey across Hollywood’s horror scene, talking to actors, directors, writers and producers as discussions happen in a very organic way. It feels like a gentle and easy-going conversation, and I dug that.
It’s a nice arrangement of talking heads, here, too. From the likes of Lin Shaye (Insidious), Greg Grunberg (Heroes) and producer of Paranormal Activity and Chernobyl Diaries, Oren Peli, to indie horror actress Sarah Nicklin (The Haunting of Alice D), editor of Tales of Halloween,...

Two bank robbers take their unwanted hostage into a seedy coastal motel in the dead of winter. When their boss doesn’t show up and their tickets to freedom go missing, the three of them must battle through their deteriorating mental state and find a way out before they turn on each other.
Among Them kicks off with a heist that has gone wrong… Ahhh those naughty heists, they rarely do what they are supposed to! Paranoia and cabin fever set in on our little band of merry men and things slowly unravel. As the opening credits roll, we can hear the soundtrack of the heist, and it is effective. you see. this is what clever film makers do when they do not have the budget.

Actress Mischa Barton, once beloved on TV’s The O.C., became something of a cause célèbre as her star fell following a number of personal problems - in much the same way as Lindsay Lohan did following her meteoric rise to fame – has recently carved out solid career in independent genre cinema after falling out of favour with the Hollywood mainstream.
