Mark Allen(XXV)
- Writer
- Producer
- Director
Mark Allen was born and raised in Jacksonville, Texas. Upon high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. He spent 21 years as a US Navy Hospital Corpsman, where he was designated a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Warfare Specialist and served as an Independent Duty Hospital Corpsman (IDC). He served in countries all over the world, in times of peace and war. He retired from active duty in May 2001.
Mark had been writing short stories and novellas since age 10. But he loved movies, and had spent several years while on active duty learning the craft in his spare time. His first feature film production, DELIRIUM (2007), which he wrote and directed, was shot in nine days on a budget of $9000. It achieved an international DVD distribution deal. Mark got another production off the ground with a close friend, Producer/Director Kevin DiBacco. That film, EARLY GRAVE, which Mark wrote and co-produced, was released in 2013. It enjoyed limited theatrical runs, followed by a global DVD release.
In 2014, Mark was diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer. All Screenwriting and filmmaking activities went on indefinite hold. His sole priority was to beat his cancer. He fought hard and emerged victorious. He is now eight years cancer-free. In the meantime, he successfully published the critically-acclaimed vampire noir novel, NOCTURNAL in 2017. He published his second novel, the critically-acclaimed BLOOD RED MOON in 2021. He also continues to inundate his beleaguered, long-suffering Literary Manager with a relentless flow of screenplays for TV series and feature films in the horror, thriller, film noir, and action genres.
Mark is a proud member of the Horror Writers Association. He lives quietly with his wife in the Pacific Northwest. He divides his time between novels and screenplays.
He writes every day.
