Justin Matthew Sargent , the new web-slinging superhero in Broadway's Spider-man Turn Off The Dark, sang the National Anthem at the sold-out preseason game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Miami Heat last night at the Barclays Center. Sargent's performance of the Anthem lead directly into a 10 minute ceremony during which the Nets retired the No. 5 jersey of Jason Kidd, one of the franchise's best players and new coach, to the rafters. Press Release: Justin Matthew Sargent Is Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark's New 'Peter Parker'

Justin Matthew Sargent is to begin playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Broadway musical "Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark" Monday night, producers said. Reeve Carney, the show's original Peter Parker, played his final performance Sunday night so he can start shooting the new Showtime drama series "Penny Dreadful." Sargent is best known for his portrayal of bartender-turned-rock-star Drew in Broadway's "Rock of Ages." "We looked for our new lead in Los Angeles and New York. During Justin's rehearsals as the alternate Peter Parker/Spider-Man, we realized this is the guy to take over for Reeve. He is one of Broadway's great rockers," producers Michael Cohl and Jere Harris said in a joint statement Monday. The blockbuster musical "Turn Off the Dark" features music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge of U2, and a book co-written by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, with direction by Taymor and Philip William McKinley.

There’s a new friendly, neighborhood web-spinner swinging around the Great White Way. Justin Matthew Sargent, who has been starring in “Rock of Ages,” will take over the role of Spider-Man and his bookish alter-ego Peter Parker in “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.” Sargent will assume the role in the Broadway production beginning on Monday. Reeve Carney Exits Spider-man Turn Off The Dark on Broadway; New Peter Parker Actor Announced

Justin Matthew Sargent will replace original star Reeve Carney as Peter Parker, the young outcast who becomes the amazing title character in Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark. In a special ceremony at the Foxwoods Theatre on September 15, Carney, who played his final performance, announced the news. Sargent, who has been performing as the alternate lead since August, will officially take over the role on September 16. Open casting calls were held during the month of August to find Carney's replacement in the blockbuster musical. Producers of the five-time Tony Award-nominated hit musical Rock Of Ages have announced that Aaron C. Finley will make his Broadway debut in the leading role of Drew beginning Friday, August 9, 2013 at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre 220 W 44thStreet. Justin Matthew Sargent, who has performed the role since March 2012, will play his final performance on Sunday, July 28 at 730pm. During the interim period, the role will be covered by Tony LePage.
