Little Monsters: new zombie rom-com signs up Lupita Nyong'o

Joseph Baxter Oct 31, 2017

Lupita Nyong’o joins Josh Gad to star in Little Monsters, which is being described as a zombie rom-com movie.

Lupita Nyong’o, the Oscar-winning breakout star of 2013’s 12 Years a Slave, continues a tour-de-force of high-profile projects that’s seen her – via digital motion capture – in the Star Wars sequel films, including December's The Last Jedi, and wielding weapons in the 2018 Marvel movie, Black Panther.

However, her upcoming role in a film called Little Monsters will be a major change of pace, playing a pursued love interest in a romantic zombie movie.

Little Monsters will see Nyong’o join Josh Gad in the zombie rom-com. Aussie actor Alexander England will play Dave, a washed-up musician who accompanies his nephew on a school trip with designs to spend time with teacher Miss Caroline (Nyong’o), with whom he sports an unrequited crush. Yet, his plans for amorous

The Woods Trailer Promises the Scariest Movie of the Year

The Woods Trailer Promises the Scariest Movie of the Year
Every year there seems to be one horror film that can rise above the endless stream of low budget, middle of the road, run of the mill horror flicks that studios push out constantly and this year, Adam Wingard's The Woods looks to be that film, and the first teaser trailer for the film has dropped, and it is promising "a new beginning for horror films." A bold statement, sure. But the critical praise for the film that the first half of the trailer focuses on seems to back that up.

Though details of the film have largely been kept under wrap, the Lionsgate production is said to feature a group of college students who go out camping in the wilderness and discover that they aren't alone, which is what the trailer heavily teases. Wingard has already made a name for himself in the horror genre in recent years,

You’re Next Filmmakers Return To Horror For The Woods

After delivering two big old blasts of genre fun with home invasion horror-comedy You’re Next and John Carpenter riff The Guest, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett are diving back into horror for their next collaboration. Lionsgate recently snagged the pair for The Woods, a mysterious horror film that Wingard will direct from a script by Barrett.

Not much is known about the project, though it will focus on a group of college students on a camping trip who “discover they are not alone.” A few years ago, such a generic premise (done to death by the Friday the 13th franchise, among others) would have made many horror aficionados groan in agony, but then along came Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon’s delightful The Cabin in the Woods, which turned the subgenre on its head to great effect. If Wingard and Barrett can pull off a similar trick (and if

Fresh off his well-received thriller The Guest, director Adam Wingard is teaming up with longtime collaborator and screenwriter Simon Barrett for The Woods, which is being set up at Lionsgate. Very few story details have been released, although the thriller follows a group of college students on a camping trip, who ultimately realize that they are not alone in the woods. The production is looking to cast a group of unknown actors and actresses, in hopes of providing "maximum scares."

Jason Constantine, Michael Paseornek and Eda Kowan are overseeing the project for Lionsgate. We got a chance to catch up with them to ask a few questions… hope we didn’t overstay our welcome!

Dread Central: How come you built the story around a soldier, who is evil? Was there any hesitation in presenting America’s hero as a villain?

Simon Barrett: No.
