Maurice Hinchey was born on 27 October 1938 in New York City, New York, USA. He was previously married to Ilene Marder Hinchey. He died on 22 November 2017 in Saugerties, New York, USA.
He retired from Congress in 2013 after 20 years there and 18 years in New York's State Assembly, where he developed expertise on environmental issues, leading hearings into the Love Canal disaster. In Congress, he promoted solar power and spoke out against hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.
