Michelle Kantor founded Cinefemme as a graduate student at San Francisco State University, serving as Executive Director since 2007. She is an award-winning writer, director and producer committed to empowering fellow change makers. Michelle has helped produce over 60 features, shorts, festivals and projects by women+ NB writers, directors and producers through Cinefemme's fiscal sponsorship incubator. Her television docuseries "Route 66: The Untold Story of Women on the Mother Road" was distributed by American Public Television, broadcast nationally on PBS. The daughter of refugees from Communist Czechoslovakia, "Red Star" documents their historic return. "Coppola Mecanique" is a rare interview with Francis Ford Coppola about the penny arcade that deeply influenced him. "Antipodiste" shows a hidden circus-vaudeville-cabaret world and "Highway to Yodel-Ay-Hee-Huuu" won Best Music Video at LA Femme Film Festival. Michelle was a producer on RuPaul's Drag Race & Drag Con, directed for Time Warner's Desportes Network, and shadowed for Paramount. Credits include HBO, FYI, OWN, World of Wonder, History Channel, Sony, Universal, MJA Advertising, NASA, BBDO. She is writing a Suicidal Tendencies founding band member's memoir, directs music videos and shoots rockumentaries. Michelle also works as gallery attendant at an iconic Los Angeles museum. She speaks several languages including Czech, Slovak and French.
