Ahmed Zewail was born on 26 February 1946 in Damanhur, Beheira Governorate, Egypt. He was previously married to Dema Faham. He died on 2 August 2016 in the USA.
He was awarded the Nobel prize in chemistry in 1999 for his pioneering work in femtochemistry, the study of chemical reactions in ultra-short time scales. He was the first Arab scientist to win a Nobel.
