SyFy Releases Great Promo Spots For The Russo Bros. Deadly Class and George R.R. Martin's Nightflyers

The SyFy Channel is starting to promote a couple of its big upcoming shows. One is called Deadly Class, which comes from the director of Avengers: Infinity War. The other is called Nightflyers, which comes from Games of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin. Both of them look like they could be great shows!

Deadly Class is based on the Image Comics property created by Rick Remender and Wes Craig. This is the synopsis that was released for it.

The series is set in a dark, comic book world against the backdrop of late 1980s counter culture. It follows a homeless teen recruited into a storied elite private school where the world’s top crime families send their next generations. Maintaining his moral code while surviving a ruthless curriculum, vicious social cliques, and his own adolescent uncertainties soon proves to be vital.

"Nightflyers" Boards the SyFy Network this Fall: First Trailer

"Nightflyers" is the latest television series, from creator and writer George R. R. Martin ("Game of Thrones"). This title is slated for 10 episodes on the SyFy Network, later this year. Filmed in Ireland, this series is based on Martin's novella, from 1980. This material has already been set to film (Nightflyers, 1987). This version will be quite a bit longer and covers Martin's Thousand Worlds universe. A trailer for the series is hosted below. The short clip blends horror an sci-fi. Bloodstains drip down one surface. Characters flee another. Someone else gets too close to the barbq. And, people fly about in simulated zero gravity. The series looks electrifying. George R.R. Martin’s Nightflyers TV Series Gets a New Showrunner

George R.R. Martin’s Nightflyers TV series has reportedly lost showrunner Daniel Cerone, and will replace him with executive producer Jeff Buhler. Syfy and Universal Cable productions are producing the show which is said to have a “substantial budget.” Syfy ordered a pilot last June, then in September ordered the show to series. The Nightflyers cast includes Gretchen Mol (Boardwalk Empire), Eoin Macken (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter), David Ajala (Jupiter Ascending), Sam Strike (Timeless), Maya Eshet (Teen Wolf), Angus Sampson (Mad Max: Fury Road), Jodie Turner-Smith (The Neon Demon), and Brían F. Netflix has marked World Women’s Day with the pickup of “Close,” a female-led, adrenaline-charged action-thriller starring Noomi Rapace. The streamer has sealed a multi-territory deal for the film that includes the U.S., U.K. and Australia.

Netflix picked up “Close” from WestEnd Films, which had it under the banner of its female-skewed WeLove brand, which is aimed at developing and producing female-specific content and promoting female talent.

Inspired by the life of bodyguard Jacquie Davis, the film stars Swedish actress Rapace (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) in the lead role. Sophie Nelisse (“The Book Thief”), Eoin Macken (“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter”), and Indira Varma (“Game of Thrones”) also star.

Davis built a formidable career in the male-dominated world of professional bodyguards. She was a consultant on the film and helped visualize and develop the action sequences.

In the movie, which was shot in Morocco and the U.K., bodyguard and counter-terrorism expert Sam (Rapace) takes a job protecting Zoe (Nelisse), a rich young heiress. Neither party is keen on the arrangement, but when a violent kidnap attempt goes wrong, the pair are forced to work together and go on the run. Together they need to unravel who was behind the kidnap and hunt them down.

Close also stars Sophie Nelisse (The Book Thief), Eoin Macken (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter) and Indira Varma (Ellaria Sand on Game of Thrones).

The Irish Film Board has backed a major new international production from the creator of Game of Thrones in its latest round of funding decisions.

Filming is due to get underway this spring on Nightflyers, the first production based out of Limerick’s newly built Troy Studios. The forthcoming production was granted €850,000 by the Ifb - the single biggest award in its latest round of funding decisions. New features by Cathy Brady, Brian Kirk and Paddy Breathnach are also being supported.

Sets are currently being constructed in Troy’s vast studio space based in Ireland’s mid-west, with filming due to begin in the coming weeks.
