Painter, singer, and songwriter Paul Roberts was born in 1948 in Tiverton, Devon, England. He was brought up in Cardiff, Wales by his artist parents. Paul studied at Newport, Cardiff and Goldsmiths College of Art. Roberts gained early recognition as a painter in the 70s. Paul formed the group Ashes of Moon in 1973, but eventually dissolved the band a year later after failing to secure a record deal. Roberts then moved to Paris, France and eked out a living as an artist. He was encouraged by drummer Luigi Salvoni to form the British rock group Sniff 'n The Tears in 1977. 'Sniff 'n The Tears' scored a big hit with the hypnotically groovy song "Driver's Seat" in 1979 and recorded four albums before breaking up in 1983. Paul went on to record two solo albums for the label Sonet Records: 1985's "City Without Walls" and 1987's "Kettle Drum Blues." In 1992 Sonet Records released the compilation album "Slowdown." In the early 90s Roberts was inspired to reform Sniff 'n The Tears after "Driver's Seat" became a surprise #1 hit in the Netherlands. Paul lives with his family in Somerset, England.
