The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature brings back the characters of the 2014 animated film The Nut Job for another round of puns and slapstick, in a sequel that is a bit better than the original. It works as a summer afternoon’s distraction for young kids but this unoriginal 3D animated movie won’t impress their parents much.

Instead of another heist plot, this time the animals are fighting to save their home from development. Surly Squirrel (Will Arnett), his wordless pal Buddy the rat, pug dog Precious (Maya Rudolph), and the other animals of Liberty Park in Oakton are living the easy life feasting on the contents of the town’s nut shop, even though red squirrel

Film Review: ‘The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature’ is in the No-Fun Zone

Chicago – Anyone showing up to the “The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature” will know exactly what they’re going to get… it’s a late summer sequel to an animated movie you may be surprised was successful enough to warrant a sequel at all, much less a theatrically released one.

Rating: 2.0/5.0

I must admit I did not see the first Nut Job film. However after seeing this sequel, I’m in no hurry to catch up on the further adventures of this rag-tag group of urban woodland creatures. But before I get too into it though I want to throw a few pebbles of faint praise. We truly live in a golden age of animation because even third tier hand-me-downs like this one are competently animated and put together. It may not have an iota of the heart of Pixar’s best, but at least it doesn’t look

Film Review: ‘The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature’

Film Review: ‘The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature’
The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature” opens with the closest thing you’ve seen — at least, in an animated movie aimed at five-year-olds — to a nut orgy. We’re in the basement of Nibbler’s Nut Shop, where Surly (Will Arnett), the purple squirrel with the grouchiness of a 1970s cab driver from Queens, is leading his band of fellow squirrels in an over-the-top midnight pig-out. And why not? They’re surrounded by burlap bags stuffed with artisanal nuts (already shelled!), which they scarf down with such hungry abandon — there’s a frenzied nut-eating contest, as well as a grinder shooting out peanut butter like a beer bong — that it’s as if we’re watching an action sequence. Let it be proclaimed: Cal Brunker, the director of “The Nut Job 2,” gives good havoc.

There’s a school of animated filmmaking that says the more havoc the better, and

The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature Review

Sometimes the best way to promote positive themes concerning the environment, and the protection of nature – is through the prism of a family adventure movie, taking real life themes and making them accessible, in a playful, almost irreverent manner. Whether than be Wall-e or The Lorax – it’s a successful means of tapping in to a young crowd and projecting important lessons, albeit dressed up in rather fantastical attire. That’s the case for The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature, as we cast our eye over the selfish money-makers in society, those ruining the environment for personal, financial gain – in this instance focusing in on a crazed politician destroying the local park simply as it brings in so little money.

Following on from the surprisingly good original movie, Cal Brunker’s endeavour reconnects us with Surly (Will Arnett), a squirrel who is sitting on a fortune – of nuts.

The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature review – animated squirrelly caper lacks bite

This unnecessary sequel may entertain younger family members but accompanying adults will be restless

The summer of inessential animation continues with this very middling sequel to 2014’s semi-forgotten squirrel-based timekiller. Displaying admirable chutzpah, replacement director Cal Brunker barrels into the franchise, reintroducing Will Arnett’s smartmouthed Surly as if the first movie had become some billion-dollar landmark in popular culture.

Restless, detailed design aids his cause, but there’s only so far anybody can sustain the kind of rote narrative – involving the redevelopment of Surly’s parkland terrain – that needs to be hustled through before accompanying adults investigate the availability of refunds.

The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature gets a first trailer

When it comes to animated movies, 2014’s The Nut Job fits in well among the bevy of forgettable children-friendly offerings, but that hasn’t stopped a series of studios/companies from attempting to squeeze more money out of the franchise. Open Road Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature, which features the return of most of the cast from its predecessor. See it here…

Also check out a shorter teaser trailer here…

In the face of poor reviews, The Nut Job brought in around $120 million at the box office, nearly three times its budget. Nutty by Nature will probably have a rougher time at the box office and doesn’t look like it’s going to be a critical darling either, which means Open Road has their work cut out for them if they want to make it as successful as The Nut Job.

Jackie Chan has joined the cast of ‘The Nut Job 2’

Jackie Chan will be amongst the vocal cast of The Nut Job 2, the sequel to The Nut Job which delighted audiences back in 2014.

The Nut Job grossed $120 million around the world from a $42 million budget, so a sequel was a no brainer commercially. The story revolved round a squirrel named Surly (Will Arnett) who, after accidentally destroying the winter food supply of his fellow Liberty Park residents, is banished to the streets of Oakton. Luckily, Surly finds the town’s nut shop and hatches a plan to plunder its bounty. However, unbeknown to Surly and his ragtag team of animal associates, the nut shop is really a front for mobsters who plan to rob the bank next door. While Surly and his team break in to the shop, the mobsters carry out their own scheme.
