Blu-ray Review – Captain Marvel (2019)

Captain Marvel, 2019.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

Starring Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

Synopsis:

Captain Marvel closed out the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a movie that was more notable for its incredibly realistically de-aged Samuel L. Jackson than for its story, which is pretty standard fare. This Blu-ray is also a run-of-the-mill effort – even the exclusive extras tossed in with the digital copy aren’t very exciting either.

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has invested a decade in creating a rich continuity that has carried through 20+ movies, it was obviously time for a little retconning. That’s always been a staple in the comic book industry (remember Jean Grey’s death and retconned rebirth in the X-Men comics?), so why not bring it into the McU too?

Captain Marvel was going to feature a comic book accurate Supreme Intelligence

The Supreme Intelligence made its debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year in Captain Marvel, although rather than a giant, floating green head, the AI ruler took on a physical form – that of the person most admired by whoever it’s talking to.

However, speaking to Comic Book, the film’s production designer Andy Nicholson has revealed that a comic book accurate version of the character was set to appear at one point, and would have appeared during the scene where Carol removes the Photon Inhibitor limiting her powers.

“It was there. We did develop a line where within that space from the big pool of water in the back of the room, that eventually, that’s where the big green head would come out of. I think eventually for the final scene of the movie, it would’ve taken away from what was the core focus which was,

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month: 9 Actors in Hollywood on the Books and Films That Inspired Them
“There’s a quote that, ‘You cannot be what you cannot see,’ and we think there’s a lot of truth in that,” says Peter Ash Lee, the New York-based editor behind the Asian-American arts and culture magazine Burdock. “Growing up, we didn’t see many reflections of ourselves in media, and when we did, they were often portrayals lacking any depth.”

The feelings of being “unseen” and a desire for multi-dimensional Asian-American experiences were what inspired Lee and his sister, Hannah, to create Burdock, which launched in April at New York’s Apex for Youth Gala.

“We’ve often been painted with a monolithic brush, but the Asian community contains so many multitudes and no two stories are identical — there are thousands of unique experiences and stories to tell,” Lee says.

Executive producers and writers Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent shared the news via Twitter on Monday.

“Sadly there won’t be a 4th season of ‘Humans.’ In this age of unprecedented choice and competition, we can have no complaints. Channel 4 & AMC were the perfect partners. That was the way we always wrote the show. Maybe one day we’ll get a chance to pick them back up. If there’s anyone out there with a few million quid and an interest in AI stories, we’re all ears.”

Awkwafina Is 'Optimistic' About Hollywood Finding a Balance Between Diversity and Representation
Awkwafina had viewers cracking up in Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean’s 8, but the Asian-American actress knows that representation in Hollywood is no laughing matter.

“I think there’s something also to be said about the industry casting … only because you’re a minority and nothing else,” the 29-year-old told People Now. “You don’t want that to happen, you still want your own merit and your own whatever you’ve done to be a part of it. You don’t just want to be, ‘Oh, well she’s Asian, let’s put her in.’ “

Gemma Chan Accidentally Liked Tweet That Criticized Constance Wu Amid Her Fresh Off the Boat Drama
There’s no beef here!

Gemma Chan had a social media slip up, inadvertently “liking” a message on social media that criticized Constance Wu, who made headlines this week after she responded rather unhappily to news that her ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat had been renewed for another season.

The since-deleted Twitter post which Chan — who starred in Crazy Rich Asians alongside Wu — accidentally liked alleged that Wu had “a reputation for being rude, petty, mean-spirited, and ungrateful.”

On Saturday, Chan, 36, addressed the incident on Twitter, writing, “Just to clarify – it was an accidental ‘like.’ “

“Anyone looking for drama or beef,
