Born in Sheffield UK, Stephen Mallinder is a founder-member of pioneering electronic act Cabaret Voltaire; regarded as one of the key influences on contemporary electronic and popular music culture. He's worked with numerous artists, film and record producers - these include Afrika Bambaataa, early electro producer John Robie, legendary dub producer Adrian Sherwood and "the originator of house" Marshall Jefferson.

In August 2012 he is part of the 'Tweet Me Up' installation in London - at Tate Modern's new space, The Tanks - raw, industrial spaces offering a sensational line-up of performance and events.

January 2013 will see him as a contributor to a new publication - Resonances: Noise and Contemporary Music [eds Halligan, Spellman and Goddard - published by Continnuum, 10 January 2013] - which is a compelling collection of new essays by scholars, writers and musicians
  • all seeking to explore and enlighten the discussion of noise - from
postpunk to shoegaze and beyond.

At the 'Sheffield International Documentary Festival' in June 2012, Stephen Mallinder appeared in and was the host for the premiere of the documentary film "Most Interesting Person", a project by filmmaker Stuart Holt.

From 2008, Stephen 'Mal' Mallinder has working in the studio with Steve Cobby of 'Fila Brazillia' on their new project for Steel Tiger - Hey, Rube! and they released their first album Can You Hear Me Mutha? in October 2012.

Stephen Mallinder records as the electronica duo Hey, Rube! with Steve Cobby (of Fila Brazillia, J*S*T*A*R*S, Heights of Abraham, Chieftain and The Cutler) - their debut album was Can You Hear Me Mutha? [Steel Tiger Records, ST013], which was released in October 2012. "Tight and exquisitely arranged production sees Hey, Rube! deliver an electronic blend of dance-floor monsters and disco-style bangers, as well as beautiful downtempo compositions, g-funk'esque grooves and dub elements. For a record containing so many styles, it bonds wonderfully and takes the listener on a fantastic journey into the greater realms of contemporary electronic music." - MundoVibe, October 4 2012
