Gender-Flipping on TV: What’s Gained When a Male Character Is Reimagined as Female
What’s old is new again, and that includes the practice of gender-flipping a role. Commonly seen in folk tales and comic book properties, the practice has been a staple on the big screen and gaining popularity on TV, especially when it comes to reimagining male characters as female.

Swapping a character’s gender often occurs in the process of remaking or reimagining a pre-existing story. The most recent example on TV is the casting of Parker Posey to portray the villainous Dr. Smith on Netflix’s reboot of “Lost in Space.” The role was originated by Jonathan Harris in the ‘60s-era Irwin Allen series.

But gender-flipping can also occur in the process of creating a new character. In the case of lawyer Jeri Hogarth on “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” the production started by crafting a female character and then retrofitting her with an identity from Marvel. That’s how Jeryn Hogarth,

Lost in Space season 2 script already in the works

Netflix’s latest offering of the re-imagined Lost in Space may have only premiered last Friday, but the co-creators have revealed a script for season 2 has already been fleshed out.

The ten-episode series has gotten off to a mostly positive response from audiences and critics alike so far. For those who have binge watched the whole series already know that the finale left us with a bit of a cliffhanger, leaving the door wide open for a possible second season.

Although Netflix has yet to confirm the series is being renewed for that second season, the show creators, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, have been discussing the possibility of a return with the focus being on the Robot’s backstory, and some even more crazy adventures for the Robinson family.

“[The details are] pretty well worked out. There’s obviously a deep backstory of the robot and the

‘Lost in Space’ Team Teases that A Second Season Would Be ‘Wild’ and Avoid The Bad Movie Remake’s Biggest Problem
Lost in Space” star Molly Parker was recently at Disneyland with her 11-year-old son, along with “Lost in Space” co-creator Burk Sharpless and 12-year-old Maxwell Jenkins (who plays her on-screen child Will Robinson) — and the kids started pitching a second season of the show to Sharpless.

“The boys were actually telling [Sharpless] what they thought the second season should be, and it was all complicated monsters and complicated situations,” Parker said with a laugh. “So, we’ll see. I’ll be very interested if any of those ideas end up in the second season.”

It’ll probably be a while until we find out if Parker’s son and Jenkins get a story credit on Season 2, as “Lost in Space” has only just premiered. But it’s never too early to ask what we might expect from future episodes of the Netflix remake of the classic ’60s drama, which tracks the

‘Lost In Space’: Cast and Creators on the Challenges of Setting a Relatable Family Drama in Deep Space
The first episode of Netflix’s “Lost in Space” opens with a scene that might feel awfully familiar to anyone who remembers long trips with the family: Mom, Dad, and the kids killing some travel time by playing Go Fish.

“It’s like they’re on a train journey. Do you know what I mean?” actor Toby Stephens told IndieWire. “A family on a train journey. What do you do? You play cards. You’re killing time, you’re playing a card game. Like any family on a journey somewhere or in an airport or whatever.”

However, the Robinsons aren’t traveling by train or plane — they’re on a spaceship, escaping potential disaster, and John (Stephens) has started this zero-g game of cards to distract his family from the peril they’re in.

“I thought that that was just a really, really clever idea, as a setup, to introduce

'Lost in Space': Sixties Sci-Fi Reboot Gets Netflix Blockbuster-tv Treatment

How do you make one of TV's all-time cheesiest science-fiction shows look cool?

That's what Netflix and writer-producers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless had to be asking themselves when they decided to revive Lost in Space – producer Irwin Allen's beloved-but-clunky 1960s space opera about a clan of bold braniacs marooned on a new planet while restarting human civilization. Because let's be frank: The original was no Star Trek. It was aimed mainly at kids. When the Robinsons – no Swiss family, they – found themselves, well, lost, they had to rely on their smarts and courage.

Netflix’s Lost In Space Debuts A Slick New Poster And Trailer

“Danger, Will Robinson” and “That does not compute” will forever be associated with the 1960’s sci-fi TV show “Lost in Space,” created and produced by Irwin Allen. With their home away from home aboard the Jupiter 2, the Robinson family left Earth on October 16, 1997 on a five-and-a-half-year journey to a planet orbiting the nearest star. In the show, the family was made up of Professor John Robinson, his biochemist wife, Maureen, their children, Judy, Penny, and Will. Also on board was U.S. Space Corps Major and pilot Donald West, who is trained to fly and land the ship. But Dr. Smith, a spy, sabotages the Jupiter 2, reprograms the Robot, but is inadvertently stuck on board and the ship is thrown of course. Thus the premise of the show.

“Lost in Space” ran for three seasons from 1965 to 1968 on CBS, just about the same time “Star Trek” was on the air over on NBC.

Ryan Reynolds To Star In Board Game Movie ‘Clue’

Don’t think that “Clue” is happening simply because of the current blockbuster climate. Surely, it doesn’t hurt, but as far back as 2011, Universal was developing a big screen version of the board game, with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (“Flash Gordon,” “Dracula: Year Zero“) hired to write the script (before that, Gore Verbinski was attached to direct).
