Nardeep Khurmi’s “Land of Gold,” which won AT&T’s Untold Stories award at the Tribeca Film Festival, will have a limited theatrical release on May 5 before premiering May 15 on HBO Max.
The film follows a first-generation Punjabi truck driver and terrified father-to-be who discovers a young Mexican-American girl inside his trailer after taking a last-minute job before his baby is due.
Khurmi wrote, directed and stars in the film opposite Caroline Valencia (“Only Murders in the Building”), Pallavi Sastry (“The Walking Dead: Dead City”), Iqbal Theba (“Glee”), and Riti Sachdeva (“High Maintenance”). Sundance revealed the lineup for its Shorts and Indie Episodic programs today, featuring new work from filmmakers like Paul Feig and Ken Marino, “Roma” star Yalitza Aparicio Martinez, and Henry Winkler.
Sixty-four films were selected for the Shorts program from a record-high pool of 10,981 submissions. Spanning fiction, non-fiction, and animated works from artists in the U.S. and around the world, the program features both new and returning filmmakers. Gravitas Ventures has secured worldwide rights to “Canvas,” an animated horror film that debuted at the Annecy Festival. The movie, written and directed by Ryan Guiterman, stars Marama Corlett, Steve Key, Isabel Ellison, Sam Encarnación and Ell Peck. Gravitas will release the pic on demand on Aug. 9.
The movie follows a demon known as “The Painter,” who comes to Earth with a gruesome mission — to create new spawn from chaos and murder. FBI agent George Rohan finds himself tasked with covering up The Painter’s multiplying murders. At the same time, a dogged investigative journalist named Reila Martin is working to unveil George’s growing web of lies.

– The Independent Filmmaker Project (Ifp) announced today the projects selected for the fourth annual Screen Forward Labs, Ifp’s yearlong fellowship for content creators with story-driven, serialized projects. The program kicks off today, running June 4-8 at the Made in NY Media Center by Ifp located in Dumbo, Brooklyn including for the first time both non-fiction and fiction series aimed at television and digital platforms.
“We are thrilled to be able to expand this year’s slate of incredible projects to also include nonfiction along with fiction serialized content. This year 73% of projects selected are created by female creators and 50% are led by all-female teams,” said Joana Vicente, IFPs Executive Director, in an official statement.
The twelve selected projects all have completed pilots and/or proof of concept shot; they represent a mix of genres ranging from comedy, nonfiction, to sci-fi, with intended formats ranging from app-based, digital series,...

The story follows an FBI special agent (Daniel Radcliffe) who specializes in domestic terrorism and covert operations. He goes undercover and joins a white supremacist group in order to expose a sizable terrorist plot to create a bomb.
