Affleck's The Accountant Beat Moana as 2017's Most Rented Movie
Believe it or not, Ben Affleck's The Accountant was the most rented movie of 2017, beating out Disney's Moana as well as DC's Wonder Woman. The MPAA broke with tradition and has decided to include home entertainment in its annual report. The report reveals that while people aren't going to the movies as much, home entertainment numbers are exploding. While this isn't totally surprising, the fact that The Accountant was the number one, most rented movie of 2017 is very surprising.

The Accountant came out in 2016 and is a crime thriller. The movie was directed by Gavin O'Connor, written by Bill Dubuque, and stars Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J. K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and John Lithgow. The story follows a small-town Illinois certified public accountant with high-functioning autism who actually makes his living un-cooking the books of dangerous criminal organizations around the world that are experiencing internal embezzlement.

Holly FitzGerald’s Amazon survival novel “Ruthless River” is in development as a movie with “Bridge of Spies” writer Matt Charman.

The story centers on FitzGerald and her husband, setting out on a yearlong honeymoon adventure backpacking around the world. Five months into the trip, their plane crash lands in Peru at a penal colony walled in by jungle, and their blissfully romantic journey turns into a terrifying nonstop labyrinth of escape and survival. They ultimately end up on a four-log raft that separates them from the piranha-and-caiman-infested water until they finally realize that there is no way out but to swim.

Ben Affleck and Gavin O’Connor set to return in the sequel for The Accountant

Warner Bros. are looking to secure a sequel to Ben Affleck’s 2016’s The Accountant with Affleck, director Gavin O’Connor and screenwriter Bill Dubuque all currently in talks to return to the crime thriller.

Also in talks to return to The Accountant sequel are the film’s producer’s Howell Taylor and Mark Williams while actor Jon Bernthal may also be back in some capacity as rumours state the follow-up could closely focus Bernthal’s character, a hitman who turns out to be the brother of Affleck’s Christian Wolff, Braxton. No word on whether Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons or Cynthia Addai-Robinson will be involved.

Ben Affleck is in talks with Warner Bros. for a sequel to last year’s action-thriller “The Accountant.”

The studio is also in negotiations to bring back screenwriter Bill Dubuque, director Gavin O’Connor, and producers Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams for the untitled project.
