‘Fields Of November’ Review

Over a year ago I heard of a film called Fields of November. The synopsis sounded like something I would want to watch and I watched teaser trailers and clips online over the following months. I saw the film last week and I will begin this review by saying that I wasn’t disappointed, something that can happen easily after wanting to watch something for a long period of time. The hype that you add onto something in your own head before something is released can be a very terrible thing, but in this case, it was the opposite.

Guillotine Guys is a short comedy thriller "about loss and detachment" from Los Angeles-based filmmaker James Ricardo, best known for his 2005 feature debut, the independent comedy Opie Gets Laid (a.k.a. Sunnyvale). The darkly comic tale centres on a liquor store hold-up that takes an unexpected turn for the robber (Mark Wood) when he finds himself up against the cunning of weary shopkeeper Elmer (Russ Kingston).

An imaginative and well-crafted short that also features an impressive soundtrack courtesy of composer Jason Solowsky, Guillotine Guys screened at a number of festivals in 2010 including the Arizona International Film Festival, La Shorts Fest and South Korea's Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival.

A Look Through the Lens with Nightbeasts

Two new clips are available for the monster horror Nightbeasts. One clip shows actor Zach Galligan and cinematographer Roy Kurtluyan prepping for shoots, while some of composer Jason Solowsky tracks lay down some eerie tones in the background. Entitled "Press Kit" below, fans can watch this clip to get a better sense of who was behind the action, on the set of Nightbeasts. Also a second behind the scenes trailer titled "Nightbeasts B Reel" is below. In this second clip, a 35mm is set up for an over head shot. Some co-ordination between the crew can also be seen. Both of these clips show the hard work that goes into horror filmmaking and the two clips can be found inside along with a recent podcast, involving director Wes Sullivan.
