Edwin Nikkels
- Visual Effects
- Art Department
- Producer
Edwin Nikkels was born in a creative and artistic environment.
With an internationally known designer as a father and an art teacher
as a mother, creativity was in his genes.
His creativity surfaced during his youth by using his talent for drawing of comic strips. Later on in his youth he was introduced to the computer. Soon pencil and paper made way for 'ones' and 'zeroes'.
Heavily inspired by computer games he continued to draw. When the software package 'Deluxe Paint' made animation possible he started to make his first animated shorts.
Years later, a Dutch DJ asked him to draw an idea for a music video. Because of the nature of the music, Edwin proposed 3D animation, something he had experimented with for years. After the DJ and the record company had seen the storyboards, he was asked to direct the video as well.
Besides his work as a director he also worked as a freelance art director for advertising agencies in the region of Rotterdam (The Netherlands).
After a while he wanted to take his talent a step further and applied for a position at the Dutch Film and Television School (NFTA) as a student in Interactive Multi Media and Visual Effects. He got accepted.
During his studies he continued to work with various advertising agencies as a freelance art director. Projects he worked on varied from local, national and global campaigns and pitches for respected clients, such as InBev and Diageo.
Recently he worked on the award winning online game series called The Hunt for Volvo, promoting Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007).
Edwin Nikkels was also a guest lecturer at the Communication and Multimedia Design department at the Haagse Hogeschool in The Hague, The Netherlands.
