Arí Maniel Cruz was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After graduating from college with a BA in Communications, due to the lack of film schools in Puerto Rico, he moved to Mexico City to study screenwriting. Arí Maniel later returned to Puerto Rico to launch his career as a "sit-com" writer, later he became a producer/director for the TV and Film industry. Some of his film credits include "_Zompi (2005)_, Los Zagales, _El Brindis del Bohemio (2009)_ and El Enigma de Mariano Faría". Later in 2004 he co-directed, co-produced and co-wrote the mini-series Barrios (2004), the most acclaimed dramatic television program in Puerto Rico that year.

From 2005 to 2007, Arí Maniel was the host of the prime time television show "Cultura Viva" on WIPR(TUTV) the Puerto Rican Corporation for the Public Broadcasting. In 2007 his special report "Oso Blanco" won an Emmy Award in the Sun Coast Chapter. From 2007 to 2012 Arí Maniel worked in New York City as a Producer and TV Host on Sport News for V-ME, a US Hispanic Television Network, where later he became an Executive Producer for original programming. During this period he traveled across the US covering major sports events including NFL Super Bowl XLIII & XLIV. In 2011, producer David Maldonado hired Arí Maniel to write the bilingual off-Broadway play "La Barbería," which received outstanding reviews both from critics and audience. La Barbería opened on February 3, 2011 at the New World Stages in New York City where it won the 2012 ACE Award for Best Theater Production in Comedy. His most recent work is the independent feature film "Under My Nails". In October 2011 the film opened the San Juan International Film Festival in Puerto Rico with its world premiere winning the Special Jury Award and the Best Actress Award. In addition the film had great success at the 2011 Havana Film Festival in Cuba. Starting January 2012, Under My Nails (2012)_ went on a Film Festival Tour that included San Diego, Chicago,Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Dominican Republic, as well as Toulouse and Marseille in France, Brussels, Geneva, Guatemala, Caracas, Cleveland and some others. The Film won the Best US Picture Award at the HBO New York International Latino Film Festival. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences along with the Cleveland International Film Festival selected Arí Maniel to a special showcase for directors called "Focus on Filmmakers Latino". In 2013 he had his debut as a Theater Director with the play "La Memoria De Los Elefantes" with excellent reviews and sold out crowds in San Juan. Together with a group of friends, who are also artists, he opened a theater/café in Río Piedras called La Beckett café, teatro y cine. His next projects are two feature films that will be shot in Puerto Rico during 2014, "_Antes Que Cante El Gallo (2016)" & "La Tierra Prometida". Arí Maniel resides in San Juan and New York enjoying life with his wife, actress and writer 'Kisha Tikina Burgos', and their two dogs, Lía Cocolía & Luna Prieta.
