O.J. Simpson, the NFL Hall of Famer, has passed away at 76 after battling prostate cancer. He played for the Buffalo Bills for nine seasons from 1969 to 1977 before moving to the San Francisco 49ers for two seasons. Simpson was acquitted of the charges of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman in an infamous trial in 1995. Simpson had a net worth of $3 million at the time of his death, most of it coming from pensions from the NFL and SAG.

While Simpson won the criminal case against him, he lost the civil case filed by the Goldman family. The court ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages. However, Simpson didn’t pay a large part of the said money and the Goldman family will continue to press Simpson’s four children to pay up the money.

The Super Bowl-bound Kansas City Chiefs have a deep history with the championship game. In the mid-Sixties, the team’s founder, Lamar Hunt, led them to the first-ever Super Bowl, for which he is credited with coining the name. They’ve been back quite a few times since, including in 2020 when they won their first Super Bowl title in 50 years, facing off against the San Fransisco 49ers. They’ll return later this month, facing off with the 49ers once again, but this time, they have a secret weapon on their team: Taylor Swift.

Watch out “Woj” and “Shams,” there’s a new NBA scoop machine: “CNN Sports.”
The biggest NBA move of the week broke on TNT’s Inside the NBA Tuesday night, with the studio team revealing that ESPN analyst Doc Rivers had agreed to become the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks. Their source? “CNN Sports.”
“Ok, are we ready for breaking news?” Inside the NBA host Adam Lefkoe began. “We have news in from CNN…” “From CNN?!” analyst Jamal Crawford responded. “From CNN Sports,” Lefkoe continued, breaking the Rivers news on-air.
Bleacher Report, TNT Sports’ digital news brand, subsequently shared the news itself, also citing CNN Sports.
And not long after the news broke on TNT, CNN.com published a story (the byline was just “CNN Staff”) with more detail on the move. It wasn’t until Wednesday morning that ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (“Woj”) and The Athletic’s Shams Charania (“Shams”) confirmed the move.

I recently hung out with a lot of kids at a family wedding in Austin. Specifically, there was a 6-year-old boy, an 8-year-old boy, a 10-year-old girl, and an 11-year-old boy. We went to McKinney Falls, tried to see a couple million Mexican free-tailed bats, and made more than one trip to whatever big box store was nearby in an attempt to get some more Prime.

As distasteful as it might feel to admit, infamous killers often receive multiple lives in pop culture. This is particularly true in the streaming era, where a need for countless hours of programming can lead streamers to mine true crime stories from the past to enthrall and disturb new generations of viewers.
That’s how 1970s serial killer and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer came to be one of 2022’s most unsavory “stars.” Ryan Murphy’s tortuously titled Netflix series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story dramatized Dahmer’s gruesome crimes for a whole new audience. Now, thanks to the announcement of Netflix and Murphy’s “Monster” followup, we have a pretty good idea what true crime event could next captivate the streaming world.
On May 3, Netflix announced that the next installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s “Monster” franchise would actually be subtitled “Monsters” and feature two killers rather than one.

A late surge in support for Joe Biden via mail-in ballots in key swing states has seen his odds slashed in the last hour, and some markets now give him a 70%+ chance of becoming President.
Biden is -330 favorite over Donald Trump who is at +275 on U.S. sportsbook BetOnline.
Just In: Joe Biden has never been more likely to be President of the United States than right now at this moment, based on implied odds in the betting market https://t.co/dRG7iZIh7G
— Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) November 4, 2020
Internationally, Biden is 1/2 on OddsChecker to win the election after making gains in states such as Wisconsin and Michigan.
Trump had been as low as 1/5 overnight, which saw a wild swing in the incumbent’s favor as in-person votes came in.
Despite the stronger-than-expected showing from Trump, Democrats are starting to express confidence in the outcome of the nail-biting election.

In comments likely to encounter some push-back, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters on a conference call Thursday that the league is planning games in stadiums with fans this fall.
According to multiple media reports and accounts on social media, Goodell also said training camps will open on time this summer, meaning all players would report to camps by July 28.
Goodell said the plan is to “get ready for games at our stadiums and to engage our fans both in stadiums and through our media partners,” according to an account of the call by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Measures such as seat covers and extensive testing are among the precautions planned.
Officials earlier Thursday scrubbed the annual Hall of Fame game and enshrinement ceremony. They are considering jettisoning some of the other pre-season games, accelerating a move already under way as the league prepares to adopt a 17-game regular season and a shorter pre-season.

Fox Sports play-by-play commentator Joe Buck says he’s “never been more flattered” after a porn website offered to pay him $1 million to call live-cam shows.
Buck’s tongue-in-cheek comment came after the offer from the site IMLive was reported by Action Network’s Darren Rovell on Friday. “The site says it is also accepting applications from other national and local sports commentators,” Rovell wrote on Twitter.
When reached for comment by Si.com, Buck said, “I am highly qualified as I have been practicing these calls most of my life, but I don’t want to just take that job without a proper, open audition. So if they get Jim [Nantz] and Al [Michaels] and Mike [Tirico] and all the others who do what I do to audition, I’m in. If any one of them say no, I’m out.”

James Holzhauer finally lost on “Jeopardy!” and he went out in pretty unspectacular fashion on Monday, wagering just $1,399 in his final “Final Jeopardy” round.
As the fateful episode of the syndicated game show makes the rounds through the U.S. markets, many viewers are dumbfounded about why Holzhauer went so low. Darren Rovell of The Action Network is the one who got that answer.
First, this explanation requires some setup, and the explanation requires a little math. Holzhauer went into Monday’s “Final Jeopardy” with $23,400. That was $3,200 behind leader Emma Boettcher.

He got the question correct, bringing his total to $24,799 — but his uncharacteristically small wager even shocked host Alex Trebek. After all, that sum was still $1,801 behind Boettcher, who had yet to reveal her response.

Eight weeks into its inaugural season, the Alliance of American Football has suspended its operations.
“I am extremely disappointed to learn Tom Dundon has decided to suspend all football operations of the Alliance of American Football,” Bill Polian, who co-founded the league with Charlie Ebersol, said in a statement Tuesday.
“When Mr. Dundon took over, it was the belief of my co-founder, Charlie Ebersol, and myself that we would finish the season, pay our creditors, and make the necessary adjustments to move forward in a manner that made economic sense for all. The momentum generated by our players, coaches and football staff had us well positioned for future success. Regrettably, we will not have that opportunity.”

The much-hyped showdown between Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods that was supposed to cost golf fanatics $19.99 ended up streaming for free on B/R Live, Bleacher Report’s digital destination for the pay-per-view event. “The Match,” scheduled for 18 holes, went 22 before Mickelson was crowned the winner.
It’s unclear who else won and lost. Turner, which owns B/R Live, is now left to assess how much it lost by streaming the match for free, and to decide whether it will issue refunds to customers who paid for the match before it became available for free.
Asked about the free streaming, a rep for Turner told TheWrap during the match: “We experienced some technical issues on B/R Live that temporarily impacted user access to The Match. We’ve taken a number of steps to resolve the matter, with our main priority being the delivery of content to those that have purchased the PPV event.

Nike has released its first commercial with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick as its new “Just Do It” spokesman.
The 2-minute spot, titled “Dream Crazy,” showcases an inspirational montage of athletes overcoming adversity to chase their dreams, with a voiceover by Kaepernick. He is also seen staring an image of the American flag in the ad. “Don’t ask if your dreams are crazy, ask if they’re crazy enough,” Kaepernick says at the end.
To some, Nike could be the ones considered “crazy” for having Kaepernick as the face of the campaign. The former NFL quarterback has become persona non-grata among some fans, as well as the Trump administration, for his kneeling during the national anthem, which sparked a wave of player protests.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were noticeably absent from the field as the national anthem played on Sunday – except offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva, a veteran who served in the army.
While his teammates remained in the locker room, Villanueva stood alone just outside of the tunnel entrance to Soldier Field in Chicago with his hand over his heart.
Head coach Mike Tomlin told CBS Sports about the team’s plans before the game.
“We’re not participating in the anthem today, not to be disrespectful to the anthem – to remove ourselves from this circumstance,” he said. “People shouldn’t have to choose.

Hardy Magerko, who took over ownership of her family’s $2.86 billion company in 1992, says she is a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump and believes that a border wall – which featured prominently in the TV spot – “is a need.”

Ryan Lochte made a lot of endorsement money winning medals in four different Olympics. He even got an E! reality show. But all that is about to change after he got drunk and belligerent and tried to blame it on Rio. Lochte is estimated to have lost $1 million in deals due to his sponsors summarily dropping him, according to Espn’s Darren Rovell. Since Lochte admitted he was dishonest about an incident at a gas station, he has picked up an endorsement with Pine Bros., a throat lozenge company, and been offered a deal with the manufacturer of an autoerotic.

These days, Katie Ledecky is out crushing her own world records and racking up the gold medals at the Rio Olympics, but not too long ago she was just another baby on the Today show plaza meeting Al Roker like any N.Y.C. tourist. Roker shared an adorable clip of 16-month-old Ledecky meeting the weatherman along with her mom, Mary, and brother, Michael, back in 1998. Far from her current 5'11" height, the future Olympian has an oversized sideways baseball cap over her bald head as her mom battles with Roker to get in a shout-out to all of the Ledecky grandparents.

Phelps competed with his fellow Team USA swimmers Nathan Adrian, Ryan Held and Caeleb Dressel. The team held a slight advantage over the other teams. Ufc’s owners are in talks with multiple bidders to sell the Mma promotion company. The winning bid is expected to be as high as $4 billion. Espn’s Darren Rovell reports that the front-running bid comes from Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda, which owns minority shares in the Ironman triathlon competition and Spanish football club Athletico Madrid. The group also became the first Chinese company to take majority ownership of a Hollywood movie studio when it bought Legendary Entertainment in January for $3.5 billion. Ufc is currently owned by sports promotion company Zuffa LLC, which is helmed by Las Vegas entrepreneurs Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta.

Never heard of Spike Albrecht? If you don't go to the University of Michigan, then no, you probably haven't. Not before the 2013 Ncaa National Championship game.
But as the underdog Michigan Wolverines take on the favorite Louisville Cardinals, Albrecht has emerged as a complete Mvp of the first half. He has 17 of Michigan's 38 total points. He's shooting 6-7 from the field, 4-4 from three-point range.
Up until Monday night, Albrecht averaged 1.8 points per game. His career-high in a single game was seven. He has played less than 300 minutes total the entire season. Now he's the talk of Twitter.
Here are some of our favorites:
"I think Spike Albrecht was bitten by a radioactive spider today" -- Eric Stangel
"Does any sports book even have odds on Spike Albrecht being championship game Mvp?" -- Darren Rovell

Talk about “Going for the D’Oh!”
NBC has apologized for spoiling the outcome of the women’s 100-meter backstroke event held Monday as part of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Back during the NBA lockout, CNBC sports business reporter Darren Rovell turned to Twitter in an effort to flesh out a story on how the lockout was impacting businesses. "If you are losing a paycheck/business because of the NBA, I want to tell your story," he wrote. One tipster with the rather LOLiterary name "Henry James" and the pleasantly rhyming gmail address "hankinthebank1@gmail.com" swiftly responded, informing Rovell that his New York-based escort service, a favorite among Knicks and Nets players, wasn't "getting the constant business that I need to stay running." And so our fairy tale begins. For, as it turns out, Henry James was not a surprisingly open New York pimp entrepreneur, but, rather, a bored 18-year-old high school senior named Tim.

So this is a thing. CBS Sports has released the "Fantasy Baseball Boyfriend," which it describes as "a single draftee, fantasy baseball, mini game designed for those who love baseball players. Pick your first Bbbf at the beginning of the 2012 Baseball Season. Every time your boyfriend plays, you accumulate points based on his stats for the day. If he can't perform, dump him. For halftime at Super Bowl Xlvi, Madonna took to the stage. You know, we saw an interesting tidbit tweeted out prior to halftime - "Since the wardrobe malfunction, the avg age of the Super Bowl halftime performer has been 54.8 years old. Madonna is 53.4." - Darren Rovell. We aren't sure if that's true, but it sounds about right. And the only young act they've had was the friggin' Black Eyed Peas. Though I guess it could be worse right - Bieber?
Anyway. Madonna kicked off her medley with a gladiator-themed "Vogue" spectacle, followed by "Music" featuring some awesome backup dancers. Then Lmfao joined the party and there was lots of skipping. And then a weird diversion where Madonna appeared to be showing off her yoga moves.
And then the new song, "Give Me All Your Luvin," took center stage with some majorettes and pom poms. Are we alone in kind of hating this song?...

So little wonder that NBCUniversal is planning a company-wide promotional blitz for massive coverage of Super Bowl Xlvi in Indianapolis on the sports, news and entertainment front. It will also utilize Spanish-language programs, kids news services, theme parks, and in-flight programming to cover and promote the game. Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Melissa Kellerman got quite a surprise during the Thanksgiving game against the Miami Dolphins when the Cowboys' tight end Jason Witten collided with her after he caught a pass from Tony Romo.
Later, Kellerman took to her twitter account to reassure Cowboys fans that despite her unexpected moment in the spotlight -- her shock was apparent in replays -- she was just fine.
"Not hurtin' today, like some of y'all thought I would be! Our Te isn't as tough as he looks... That or I'm Way tougher than I look," she wrote the next day, adding a winking emoticon. Later, she added, "I'm not the best at Jason Witten trust falls." With another emoticon for good measure, of course.
That night, Kellerman's twitter account was deleted.
Which, of course (??) spurred lots of media coverage and an investigation. Because her Twitter is apparently super important to tons of people.
