A Night of Glamour and Celebration at the UK’s Inaugural Punjabi Film Awards

Birmingham made history on Saturday 12th May by hosting the biggest Punjabi awards ceremony, which took place in the UK for the first time. BritAsia TV, the UK’s leading, homegrown Asian entertainment channel, hosted the inaugural Punjabi Film Awards, presented by Metatron Global Fund at the International Convention Centre (Icc), welcoming a dazzling guest list of the leading names in Punjabi film and entertainment.

The ceremony was hosted by Punjabi superstar, Jasmine Sandlas, who also performed during the evening alongside Harrdy Sandhu, Sharry Mann, UK born Gurj Sidhu and Sunanda Sharma. The audience was further blown away by a special, surprise guest performance by celebrated Punjabi singer and international superstar, Satinder Sartaaj as well as the appearance of actor and singer Gippy Grewal.

The night was a huge success, with all the nominees and winners being deservingly celebrated and acknowledged for their work and contribution in putting Punjabi cinema on the map,

Vicky Kadian and Neeraj Pandey together again for ‘Crack’

'Double Di Trouble' locked for May 30 release
Mumbai, Feb 14: Subhash Ghai's debut Punjabi production "Double Di Trouble", a desi take on William Shakespeare's play "The Comedy of Errors", will hit the big screens May 30.

Starring veteran actor Dharmendra and Gippy Grewal in double roles, the film also has an an ensemble cast of Poonam Dhillon, Minissha Lamba, Kulraj Randhawa and comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi.

"Double Di Trouble" is directed by Smeep Kang and produced by Ashok Ghai under Subhash Ghai's banner Mukta Arts Ltd. Expect this one to take you on a laughter riot.

Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh will be making his acting debut in Akshay Kumar’s Punjabi film Bha Ji In Problem. The film is produced by Akshay Kumar and Ashvini Yardi’s company Grazing Goat Pictures.

Details of what exactly is Bhajji’s role in the film have not yet been revealed but it’s a rather interesting cameo. Toronto to host first ever International Punjabi Film Awards - Pifaa

Toronto will host the first ever Punjabi International Film Academy Award (Pifaa) in August 2012, organized by leading South Asian media company, Parvasi Media Group. To formally launch a series of events that will culminate in the final event on August 4, 2012 in Air Canada Centre, Toronto, a press event was organized in Courtyard Marriott, Brampton, on February 3. Rajinder Saini, President of Parvasi Media Group, announced on the occasion that the event will be a three-day mega show of entertainment, award ceremony and trade fair. The main awards event will be held in Air Canada Centre, Toronto, on August 4. New Delhi, Oct 6: Punjabi actor and comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi feels the Punjab film industry lacks proper knowledge of cinema and also falls short in terms of talent.

'The Punjabi industry lacks a lot in terms of good production houses and actors,' Ghuggi told Ians in an interview.

'Actors who are talented try to take a jump and start their career from Bollywood. But when they don't get good enough recognition, they come back to other options,' he added.

'Changes are required as far as scripts are concerned. People need to open up and experiment in story lines. But we don't have good script writers, producers.

Speedy Singhs cast and crew at UK press launch

Stars of American, Canadian and Indian cinema come together in new crossover film Speedy Singhs - and several of them gathered on stage in London for a press launch ahead of its UK release tomorrow (September 30).

Comedian Russell Peters and screen debutant Vinay Virmani joined fellow cast and crew members including comic/actor Gurpreet 'Ghuggi' Singh and co-producer Ajay Virmani as they addressed the audience and conducted a Q&A session.

Russell Peters and Vinay Virmani are pictured above at the event in London and (below) with Gurpreet Singh. A number of other photographs from the event are included below.

Peters said: "I always worry about what people will think of my films but I Lol'd when I saw this and I also got teary-eyed when I saw the film at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it premiered. The film is shot, directed and cut extremely well."

World famous Canadian stand-up comedian Russell Peters, Speedy Singhs debutant Vinay Virmani and popular Punjabi comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi stopped over in London for a press conference to promote their film Breakaway/ Speedy Singhs today after a short visit to India for the same.

Produced by Akshay Kumar, the film also stars Camilla Belle, Anupam Kher, Rob Lowe, Sakina Jaffery and Noureen DeWulf with the cameo appearances by Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar himself , rappers Aubrey ‘Drake’ Graham and Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges. Mayor of Brampton Susan Fennell welcomes the entire cast of Indo-Canadian movie Breakaway (Speedy Singhs) for an official Tiff Buzz Event on 11th September hosted in Chinguacousy Park in Brampton.

The Mega cast of Breakaway includes Rob Lowe, Anupam Kher, local Brampton boy Vinay Virmani as the main lead, Noureen Dewulf and Camilla Belle, Gurpreet Ghuggi, and Brampton’s own comedy sensation Russell Peters.

Comedy 'Breakaway' In Canadian Theatres on Sept. 30

What happens Bollywood meets the biggest icon of Canadian culture, that is hockey? Find it out on September 30 when the comedy Breakaway hits Canadian theatres.

As seen in the trailer, the film takes place in a suburb of Toronto in a Punjabi family. Rajveer Singh (Vinay Virmani) dreams to be a hockey star and he plays in an amateur team made of Canadians of Punjabi heritage. Rajveer even tries to convince a white man (Rob Lowe) to coach his team.

However, things are complicated for Rajveer. His father (Anupam Kher) doesn't want his son to play hockey. Moreover, Rajveer is in love with his coach's sister, Melissa (Camilla Belle). Unfortunately, Melissa isn't necessarily attracted by hockey players.

The film also stars Canadian comedian Russell Peters, Noureen DeWulf, Akshay Kumar, Guggi, Sakina Jaffrey, Al Mukadam, Pamela Sinha, Ludacris and Lee Rumohr.
