HBO’s confirmed a June 16, 2024 premiere date for House of the Dragon season two and released the first-ever “dueling” trailers. Viewers are asked to choose a side in the war between House Targaryen (#TeamBlack) and House Hightower (#TeamGreen), and then watch the trailer dedicated to their chosen allegiance.
“Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively. As each side believes theirs to be the rightful seat on the Iron Throne, the Green and Black trailers reflect those two perspectives in separate yet complementary halves of the same story,” reads HBO’s press release. “For global audiences, ‘All Must Choose’ their side of House Targaryen as the realm fractures in season two.”

The councils are at war. If you pledge your loyalty to the Black Council, you can watch the Black Trailer. If you are a supporter of the Green Council, you can view the Green Trailer. Or if you’re just in excited anticipation of the new season of the Game of Thrones series, you can watch them both. HBO has just released two trailers, by way of Deadline, that tell of the upcoming civil conflict for the control of The Iron Throne. In October of 2022, the first season of House of the Dragon left audiences with a sense of impending war as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen found herself laced with rage and coming to a decision to battle for the throne. The second season suffered some delay due to last year’s dual union strikes, but wait no more. The Green and Black trailers showcase this season’s story from the...

“House of the Dragon” is asking viewers to pick a side in Season 2: Rhaenyra’s black faction or Alicent’s green team?
HBO dropped two unique trailers Thursday for Season 2, which premieres on June 16. One trailer focuses on Rhaenrya, Prince Daemon and their forces on Dragonstone, and the other is centered on the King’s Landing team of Alicent, her father Otto and her children King Aegon and Prince Aemond. Taking place 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” will officially mark the start of the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war.
In the wake of the Season 1 finale, in which Aemond murders Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys and his dragon, war is imminent in Westeros. The blacks and the greens are both gathering their forces, dragons and new allies to face off in a bloody, fiery battle to the death.

Season 2 of House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO/Max in June, said Jb Perrette, head of global streaming & games for Warner Bros. Discovery.
Speaking at a media conference Q&a today, he said it’s one of a handful of HBO tentpole series set to contribute to a turnaround at the media giant after a soft period for film and television due in part to the Hollywood strikes last year.
He didn’t give a specific premiere date. HBO and Max content chief Casey Bloys last said in November that the season would be coming in early summer. Warner Bros. Discover CEO David Zaslav confirmed during the February 23 earnings call that Season 2 would premiere in Q2.

House of the Dragon fans have been anxiously awaiting word on the release of season 2 of the fantasy series. It was previously reported that the series would debut sometime this summer, but that date has just been narrowed down a little more.
Warner Bros. Discovery streaming and gaming chief J.B. Perrette revealed (via Variety) that House of the Dragon season 2 will premiere on HBO in June but didn’t specify an exact date. The first season was a surprisingly big success for HBO, and I only say “surprisingly” because I honestly wasn’t sure if fans would be willing to return to Westeros after the disappointment following the Games of Thrones finale. Will the second season be able to keep the momentum going? HBO certainly hopes so, as they’re said to be actively developing seasons 3 and 4 of the series.

Literary agency Verve has parted ways with CEO Bill Weinstein.
“We thank Bill as a co-founder and for his 14 years of service and wish him nothing but success in his future,” Verve leadership said in a statement Monday.
No reason was given by the agency, although the decision “was made after thoughtful deliberation by Verve’s leadership and approved by Verve’s board and owners,” according to the email announcing the ouster. Some sources have said the move could be financial; the agency, with a strong focus on the literary, was hit hard during the strikes last year. That, coupled with a contraction in television, is hitting many companies and the agency may be no exception. The company rebuffed acquisition overtures from Gersh last summer.
Verve will not be naming a new CEO. The responsibilities of that role will be shared by the founders and managing partner, Liz Parker.

The creator behind the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon has given his verdict on the first two episodes of season two.
Writing on his Not a Blog website, George R.R. Martin related how he visited the set of what he termed “Hot D” for three days while it was being shot.
“All I have to say about that is… ohmigod! I am no stranger to film sets. I have worked off and on in television and film since 1986, where I joined the staff of the Twilight Zone revival at CBS. I still recall the rush where I saw them building Stonehenge on the sound stage behind my office, for an episode I’d written. And of course I visited the Game Of Thrones shoots in Belfast, Scotland, Morocco, and Malta. Those were incredible too.

The first trailer for the second season of House of the Dragon dropped over the weekend, but work is already underway on what will be seasons 3 and 4 of the HBO series.
George R.R. Martin took to his blog to write about a recent trip to London, which included a visit to the studio where House of the Dragon was shot. “I also spent two days locked in a room with Ryan Condal and his writing staff talking about the third and fourth seasons of House Of The Dragon,” Martin wrote. “They were lively, fun discussions, and we got some good work done… though two days was not nearly enough. There is so much ground to cover that I am not sure twenty days would have been enough.“

HBO’s House of the Dragon season two teaser trailer opens with Otto Hightower admitting errors were made immediately following King Viserys’ death. The kingdom’s being torn apart by conflict between those who support the Greens and those who stand with the Blacks. And Alicent Hightower warns, “The war will be fought, many will die, and the victor will eventually ascend the throne.”
“There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin, and no war so bloody as a war between dragons,” says Rhaenys Targaryen. That pronouncement is followed by scenes of battle, and fighting between the mythological beasts.

House of the Dragon is officially returning to HBO next summer.
The second season of the Game of Thrones spinoff will air in early summer 2024, as long eyed by the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned network.
The news was confirmed by Casey Bloys at an HBO event in New York this morning, where members of the press saw the first trailer for the second season.
The show, which has finished filming and is currently in post-production, was largely able to continue filming during the summer as it has a largely British cast under Equity contracts rather than SAG-AFTRA ones.
Elsewhere, Bloys said that the hope is for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, its latest GoT prequel to start shooting in the spring.

George R.R. Martin is no newcomer to transformation. After “Game of Thrones” revolutionized the fantasy landscape and paved the way for genre series to achieve mainstream acclaim, he and “House of the Dragon” showrunner Ryan Condal set their sights on another mighty challenge by crafting a female-centric spin-off.
“If you’re going to make a successful spin-off or sequel, it has to have a reason to exist,” Condal said. “There were great female characters in the original show, but really, other than Cersei, no [woman] really ascends to power the way that both Alicent and Rhaenyra do in their own ways.”

That news was revealed earlier this year when it was reported that the Game of Thrones spinoff's sophomore run would come in at eight episodes, down from the planned 10-episode run.
A definite answer to why the decision was made was not revealed at the time.

Season 2 of House of the Dragon may not feature one of its most morally righteous characters. HBO just released the list of returning cast members for the show’s sophomore season, and one name was noticeably missing.
While the main stars of the Game of Thrones prequel will be back in action, Outlander star Graham McTavish did not make the cut. Here’s a look at why fans might not see a lot of McTavish on House of the Dragon this season.

Exclusive: The upcoming second season of HBO’s House of the Dragon will consist of eight episodes, two fewer than Season 1 of the Critics Choice Award-winning Game of Thrones prequel. It is part of a long-term plan for the show, which includes HBO mulling a green light for a third season, I have learned.

Verve, the talent and literary agency, has appointed a new CEO as it expands its representation ambitions.
Bill Weinstein was named to the top job by the Los Angeles-based agency’s 11 partners, the firm said on Jan. 18. “I am incredibly grateful and humbled to be selected for this position by my fellow Partners and peers,” Weinstein stated.
Weinstein, previously a motion picture literary agent with WME, was part of the trio — along with Bryan Besser and Adam Levine — who left the Endeavor-owned agency to form their own firm, which became Verve in 2010.
As founding partner, Weinstein engaged in negotiations with the Writers Guild when talks over packaging fees and affiliate production were hotly debated in 2019, and the agency broke ranks to sign the writers’ code of conduct before the majors made deals.

Those who had read George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels knew exactly what to expect from the Red Wedding in the Game of Thrones TV series. The sequence was one of the most memorable moments from the novels and the TV series, and it seems that House of the Dragon will have its own Red Wedding with Blood and Cheese.

This article contains spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok and House of the Dragon
It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since Taika Waititi twirled Mjolnir and made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with Thor: Ragnarok. While we’ve since had Thor: Love and Thunder, most agree Ragnarok is the God of Thunder’s best. More recently, we’ve become obsessed with HBO’s House of the Dragon and a fight for a more painful throne than the one in Asgard. It might be hard to connect the dots to Westeros, but on another viewing, Thor: Ragnarok is Marvel’s answer to House of the Dragon – just with fewer dragons and no Jeff Goldblum.

For a few weeks there, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) was a bit of an internet darling among "House of the Dragon" fans. Yes, his character might be technically evil, but the guy was charming, intelligent, and he seemed to be, uh, genuinely in love with his niece. Yes, he murdered his first wife, but at least he seemed kind of upset about the death of his second wife, and for a while there his relationship with Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) was borderline wholesome.
The height of the Daemon love came after "The Lord of Tides," which notably featured a scene where Daemon beheads a guy for calling his wife a whore. Viewers love a guy who passionately defends his wife in over-dramatic ways, but what made it even better was the fact that Daemon subtly asks permission from his wife before he acts. Shortly before the beheading, we see him look over towards Rhaenyra,...

House of the Dragon took the largest audience for a debut series in HBO’s history and was a best ever series launch on HBO Max in the U.S., Latin America and Europe.
Outside of Europe, the show, which tells the story of a war within Westeros’ ruling House Targaryen and is based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, also surpassed Game of Thrones season eight, making it the most...

“House of the Dragon” brought in 9.3 million viewers after airing its Season 1 finale on Sunday, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. This includes both linear viewers who caught the episode during its four airings on HBO’s cable channel and HBO Max streams through the night.
That makes Episode 10, titled “The Black Queen,” HBO’s most-watched series finale since predecessor series “Game of Thrones” concluded its eighth and final season with 19.8 million viewers in 2019. However, “House of the Dragon” was not able to beat its own series high of 10.2 million viewers with Episode 2.
Wbd has only released total viewership numbers for the “Game of Thrones” prequel series twice before this. The company reported 9.99 million viewers after the series debuted its premiere episode in August, making it the most-watched HBO series premiere ever, before Episode 2 crept up by 2. Wbd declined to share exact numbers for Episodes 3-9, though Nielsen’s measurement of the show’s cable viewership,...

Early during season 1 of “House of the Dragon”, HBO renewed the “Game of Thrones” prequel, confirming that the series would return for a second season. Based on George R.R. Martin’s novel, “Fire & Blood”, which is a history book recounting notable events in Westeros in the 200 years before the original series, “Hotd” will continue to explore the in-fighting and intrigue surrounding House Targaryen.
With season 1 ending in dramatic fashion, with everyone in Westeros seemingly taking sides in the newfound battle between the Black Council and Green Council, here’s what we know about what’s to come in season 2.
Plot and Timeline
After spending most of season 1 establishing the main players in the battle of succession to follow the death of King Viserys, season 2 will inch the series closer and closer to war.
“We will get to the spectacle,” co-creator and showrunner Ryan Condal told The Times. (His co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik...

House of the Dragon cleared up a controversial plot point in its latest episode.
The finale of the hit HBO series, which was broadcast on Sunday (23 October), addressed the previous episode’s closing scene, which led to frustration among viewers.
The scene in question saw Rhaenys (Eve Best) deciding to spare the lives of the usurping Hightowers before escaping from King’s Landing on dragonback.
Many felt the scene was unbelievable considering Rhaenys could have instantly ended the impending civil war – and it turns out this is a sentiment also shared by one of the show’s characters.
*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*
In the finale, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) says of Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cook) to Rhaenys: “That Queen murdered my brother and stole his throne. You could have burned them all.”
Rhaenys, explaining her decision, replies: “A war fought like this, there is to be treachery, to be sure,...

House of the Dragon concluded its debut season with a dramatic tragedy that will spark the Targaryen Civil War.
The HBO fantasy hit’s tenth episode depicted a sequence that was highly anticipated by readers of author George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, where the young princes Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) and Lucerys (Elliot Grihault) met at Storm’s End, both seeking to obtain House Baratheon’s support for their respective immediate family’s’ Iron Throne claims. A dragon-mounted chase though a lightning storm ensued, and Lucerys was tragically killed after their hot-blooded dragons attacked each other – all-but-ensuring Lucerys’ mother Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) will go to war against Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cook) and plunge Westeros into chaos.

The season one finale for HBO’s House of the Dragon has leaked online, which the company is attributing to a distribution partner in Europe, the Middle East or Africa.
House of the Dragon’s final episode of its first season was illegally made available Friday ahead of its scheduled Sunday launch. An HBO spokesperson said in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter that it is “aggressively monitoring” the situation and has been taking down copies that have surfaced on torrent sites.
“It appears to have originated from a distribution partner in the Emea region,” said the spokesperson. “HBO is aggressively monitoring and pulling these copies from the internet.”
The message continued: “We’re disappointed that this unlawful action has disrupted the viewing experience for loyal fans of the show, who will get to see a pristine version of the episode when...

Throughout House of the Dragon‘s inaugural season, Daemon Targaryen did quite a bunch of very, very bad things. But perhaps he’s about to turn a new leaf for the finale (we ask very, very skeptically)?
Rhaenyra’s uncle/husband — who, like the princess, was absent from Episode 9 (read a full recap) — will very much be a part of the HBO series’ season-ender. What’s more, executive producer Sara Hess tells The Hollywood Reporter that “We will see a different side of him” in this Sunday’s finale (9/8c), a statement that’s open to some intriguing speculation.

The team behind House of the Dragon have explained the final scene in episode nine, amid viewer frustration that it was something of an anti-climax.
On Sunday (16 October), the HBO show broadcast its first season’s penultimate episode, which explored the fallout from the death of King Viserys (Paddy Considine) in the previous episode.
*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*
Incorrectly believing Viserys’s dying wish was for their son Aegon to succeed him as ruler, Alicent (Olivia Cooke) informs her father Otto (Rhys Ifans), who jumps to action in order to prevent Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) from taking her rightful place on the Iron Throne.
Throughout the episode, the Hightowers attempt to convince the people on King’s Landing, including Viserys’s sister Rhaenys (Eve Best), that, in the final moments of his life, he went against his steadfast wish to have Rhaenyra succeed him.

It was there from the first episode of House of the Dragon. And after last week’s episode, the thirsty tweets and memes really exploded: The murderous Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) is an object of online desire.
Two moments, in particular, seemed to send admirers over the top: The prince helping his estranged brother, ailing King Viserys, as he stumbled on his way to the Iron Throne; and then beheading Vaemond Velaryon, who committed treason by insulting Daemon’s wife, Rhaenyra. (Nevermind that Daemon also murdered his previous wife because she was merely inconvenient — that was four whole episodes ago!)
The Hollywood Reporter recently chatted with Dragon writer and executive producer Sara Hess and director Clare Kilner about the ninth episode of the HBO fantasy hit and threw in the following question: Some viewers have really fallen for Daemon after the last episode...

House of the Dragon fans were left wincing at their television screens last night during a scene involving Alicent Hightower and Larys Strong.
*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*
During the ninth episode of the Game of Thrones prequel, Alicent (Olivia Cooke) appears to reward Larys (Matthew Needham) for his information by removing her shoes and stockings and allowing him to pleasure himself over the sight of her bare feet.
The scene left viewers stunned, with fans saying the character’s foot fetish “wasn’t on” their House of the Dragon “bingo card”.
Appearing on Entertainment Weekly’s West of Westeros podcast, director Clare Kilner credited writer and executive producer Sara Hess with inventing Larys’s foot fetish.
“Her mind is incredible. I mean, she really wrote us a wonderful episode,” Kilner said. “But, yeah, that was an interesting scene actually. Funnily enough, you get the intimacy coordinators for all the nudity,...
