Frank Mosley is a Texas-born actor and filmmaker living in Los Angeles. He's a fellow of the 2015 Berlinale Talents, 2017 NYFF Artist Academy, and 2016 Workshop for Auteurs led by Abbas Kiarostami. Under the direction of Charles Burnett, he also participated as an actor in the 2016 Austin Film Society Artist Intensive.
His starring work in Freeland (2020 SXSW, SFFILM, Dark Star Pictures) has been called "excellent...compellingly slippery" (The Hollywood Reporter) and that he's a "dependably fantastic American indie mainstay" (Filmmaker Magazine). Other starring work includes Collective:Unconscious (2016 SXSW, BAMCinemaFest, The Criterion Channel), Americana (2016 SIFF, Fantasia), The Ghost Who Walks (2018 Champs-Elysees, Gravitas Ventures), and alongside David Arquette in Quantum Cowboys (2022 Fantastic Fest, VIFF), for which they were called "a divinely sinister duo" (Variety). His leading role in Some Beasts won him a Special Jury Prize for Outstanding Performance at the 2016 Sarasota Film Festival and was listed as "one of the best performances of 2017" (Film Pulse). He's also appeared in Upstream Color (2013 Sundance, Berlinale, New Directors/New Films), Chained for Life (2018 BAMCinemaFest, NYTimes Critics Pick, Kino Lorber), Dear Mr. Brody (2021 Tribeca, Telluride), Thunder Road (2018 SXSW, ACID Cannes), Person To Person (2017 Sundance, Magnolia Pictures), and The Carnivores (2020 SXSW, OutFest).
Mosley's most recent work as a director, the short film The Event, has been called "irresistible" (The Moveable Fest) and "a breathtakingly unique trip through the human psyche" (Film Threat). It screened at festivals such as Slamdance, Fantastic Fest, Palm Springs ShortFest, and Rooftop Films before being released as a Vimeo Staff Pick in September 2022. He's had two retrospectives of his directing work: The Spectacle Theater in NYC (2018) and online through Kinoscope (2020). Included were his short films Parthenon (Slamdance 2018, NoBudge), Casa De Mi Madre (Champs-Elysees 2017), and Spider Veins (Sidewalk 2016), which have been called "miracles of economy... (by) a major cinematic voice" (Vague Visages); his looped installation Two Story (2013 Dallas Museum of Art, 2014 Edinburgh Art Festival); and Her Wilderness, his 2014 interactive, multi-platform feature which has been called "a beguiling experience" (The Playlist) and "a mesmerizing film by a superb actor and filmmaker" (RogerEbert.com).
With his partner, writer/actor Joslyn Jensen, he founded Script Eater, a screenplay coverage and feedback company for writers at any level of experience. Frank also offers independent coaching for actors and directors via Sidetime.
