Martin Scorsese Honored With Sprawling Lumiere Tribute
Lyon, France — An echo of his prolific career, colorful personality and enduring passion for movies, Martin Scorsese was celebrated by an impressive delegation of French and international film figures on Friday night in Lyon, where he received the Lumiere tribute.

The ceremony was emceed by Thierry Fremaux, the artistic director and general delegate of both Cannes and Lyon Lumiere film festivals. Fremaux, who created the festival seven years ago with vet French helmer Bertrand Tavernier to showcase heritage films, said the pair had dreamt of honoring Scorsese even since the festival was launched.

“This festival was created to celebrate the history of cinema, as well as passion and knowledge and Martin Scorsese embodies all these things in an absolute way,” Fremaux told Variety before the fest kicked off. Previous Lumiere tributes were awarded to Quentin Tarantino, Pedro Almodovar and Clint Eastwood.

Martin Scorsese laid on a special screening of his new movie Hugo for his daughter and 50 friends last week (beg14Nov11) as part of her 12th birthday celebrations.

The legendary director and his wife Helen Morris organised the preview to mark their daughter Francesca turning a year older on 16 November, and they invited dozens of her pals to enjoy the 3D fun.

The screening took place at the Bryant Park Hotel in New York, where guests were also treated to cupcakes and other sweet treats, according to the New York Daily News.

The film, which tells the tale of an orphaned boy who lives in a train station, holds a special meaning to the father and daughter - Francesca introduced her director dad to the book on which the film is based.

London, Jan 20 (Ians) Director Martin Scorsese’s 10-year-old daughter Francesca seems to be following her father’s footsteps by co-directing a short film with her friends.

Dailystar.co.uk. reports that Scorsese, 67, admits his daughter is more interested in working behind the camera.

‘Today she has co-directed her first video with her friends. It’s amazing,’ he said.

Scorsese had cast Francesca with his fifth wife Helen Morris.

Filmmaker Martin Scorsese's 10 year old daughter is already following in his footsteps - after co-directing a short film with her friends.

Scorsese has already featured Francesca, his daughter with fifth wife Helen Morris, in small roles in films The Departed and The Aviator.

But the 67 year old admits she's more interested in working behind the camera like her dad.

He says, "Today she's co-directing her first video with her friends. Apparently her (sic) and her friends (wrote) something called Ghostly Girls and (there's) a ghost at the end. (In the film) they throw pies at each other. But I said not in the house."
