The Black Mass, the title of actress Devanny Pinn’s directorial debut is not, as one might guess, a reference to a Satanic ritual. It’s the description one of the survivors gave of the man who, across one long night in 1978, attacked four of her sorority sisters, killing two of them as well as attacking a random woman he encountered nearby.
That man was Ted Bundy. That doesn’t mean that The Black Mass is a typical true-crime film or even a straightforward slasher film. Pinn and co-writers Eric Pereira and Brandon Slagle keep the killer in the background figuratively and literally for much of the film.

Director Brandon Slagle is known for his fun, quick, in-and-out style and prolific indie filmography. While no film production is easy, he arguably met his greatest challenge with the new alligator thriller, The Flood. Starring Nicky Whelan and Casper Van Dien among others, The Flood centers on a Louisiana prison being battered by a hurricane; the flooding gets so bad that a congregation of alligators makes their way into the prison, and soon inmates and guards must work together to survive.
As one can imagine, shooting the wet alligator film was no dry picnic. “There were a lot of challenges filming in water,” Van Dien told MovieWeb. “We were in abandoned buildings that they tried to waterproof, but then they pour the water into it, but you know, the building has rats and snakes and bugs and dirt. The water is clean when they put it in, then everybody's walking through it,...

The scene where Robert Shaw gets eaten in “Jaws” is one of the most thrilling moments in movie history. After all of Steven Spielberg’s virtuoso framing and cool ’70s Hitchcock scare tactics, the shark’s big-mouthed consumption of a man who fully deserves to be eaten had a shockingly raw “Look, there it is!” exploitation-film brazenness. (One not inaccurate way to describe “Jaws” would be to call it the greatest B-movie ever made.) “The Flood,” an alligator-attack movie that’s also a violent prison-break thriller, takes its cue from that scene. Set in a backwater Louisiana police station during a hurricane, the film isn’t shy about serving up its big, nasty human-torso-meets-jaws moments. It’s basically a slasher movie with teeth.
The alligator thriller, of course, was always a bargain-basement knockoff of “Jaws” — literally, since the alligators are inevitably slithering out of some basement somewhere. But it was...

Plot: A daring jailbreak during a dangerous Louisiana hurricane is interrupted by a horde of large hungry alligators.
Review: I’ll always count myself as a lover of absurd killer animal movies. When done right, they can be heightened explorations of the relationship between humanity and nature. When done wrong, they can be schlocky messes that don’t really have much to say about anything. The Flood is more of the latter with its very cheap effects and some of the most absurd story beats I’ve seen all year. Given the Louisiana setting, it’s hard not to think of a similarly themed Gator movie, Crawl. Unfortunately, that’s where the similarities end.

Is there anything more entertaining than when a man wrestles with an alligator? The answer, of course, is no. And thankfully, we have an exclusive clip of just such a battle, as man named Big Jimbo fights an alligator in a new clip for the new action horror flick, The Flood. Coming courtesy of Lionsgate and Saban Films, and led by Starship Troopers star Casper Van Dien, The Flood finds a group of people at the mercy of many a giant, CGI alligator after a hurricane. Check out our exclusive clip from The Flood above.
“After a massive hurricane floods Louisiana, it unleashes a threat even deadlier than the rising water level: a relentless horde of giant hungry alligators,” the official synopsis for The Flood reads. “When a group of in-transit prisoners and their security guards seek shelter in a local prison, they become prey for the flesh-eating attackers. Borrowing a page from 2019’s Crawl, The Flood aims to escalate the thrills by pitting man-eating alligators against cops and prisoners in a flooded Louisiana jail amidst a raging hurricane. It’s a high concept scenario that lends itself well to action-horror thrills and B-movie fun. The Flood doesn’t quite follow through on execution, though. It’s not the rough effects that sink The Flood, but an overly convoluted plot that bogs down the runtime.

There’s just something about a killer animal film that can provide so much entertainment that it’s a shock we don’t get more of them. But there’s also an inherent schlockiness to them that makes it understandable. Outside of Jaws, there are few that are considered high art. So it’s easy to go into most with lower expectations and end up having a fun time with them. The Flood is a film that has its problems (check out my review Here) but it’s the cast that makes it worth it. Casper Van Dien continues to be one of my favorite people to interview and Nicky Whelan managed to land herself on that list rather quickly. So join me for these really fun conversations as we get into some pretty shocking revelations of what went down on set in Bangkok.

Casper Van Dien couldn’t wait to dive into The Flood. Literally. “When I read the script for The Flood, they said it’s Con Air meets Anaconda, but with alligators, so I was like, ‘Oh, that sounds cool.’” In fact, The Flood is cool. In this fiery throwback to action-thriller romps from the 1980s and 1990s, the film also stars Nicky Whelan in a standout role along with Louis Mandylor.
As for the plot, after a devastating hurricane floods Louisiana, it unleashes a deadly threat. The rising water is a major challenge but when a horde of giant hungry alligators enter the scene, things get even worse. The Flood follows Jo Newman (Nicky Whelan), the sheriff of a Louisiana police department in the middle of a massive hurricane. Because of the bad weather, a truck full of inmates stops at the station for the night. Things become more complicated when a group of criminals comes to break out one of the inmates, Russell Cody (Casper Van Dien). Of course, there are more complications when alligators storm the flooded station as well.
So then both the cops and the criminals must work together in what's essentially Assault on Prescient 13 but with alligators. Or Ghosts on Mars with alligators, if you prefer John Carpenter's inferior sci-fi remake of his own film for some odd reason.
Silly CGI Gators
Let's start with the bad. During their first scene, each convict gets a freeze-frame and caption saying their name and charge, which has two problems with it. One, it's unnecessary...

Lionsgate and Saban Films will unleash the alligator horror movie The Flood this summer (watch the trailer here), and the film’s official MPA rating has been handed in this week.
The Flood has been Rated “R” for…
“Violence, some gore, and language throughout.”
The action-horror movie hits Theaters, On Demand and Digital on July 14, 2023. The premise suggests a Syfy-style monster movie – alligators inside a prison – but the execution looks a lot closer to Alexandre Aja’s Crawl than anything you’d find on the Syfy network.
Think Crawl meets Assault on Precinct 13.
The Flood is directed by Brandon Slagle (Frost, The Dawn) and co-written by Chad Law (Section 8, Close Range, 6 Bullets) and Josh Ridgway (The Sector, Howlers).

Saban Films has released the official trailer for the alligator horror movie The Flood. Starring Casper Van Dien, Nicky Whelan, and Louis Mandylor, The Flood is a story about prisoners and security guards working together to survive when they seek shelter in a jail that's been overrun with rising waters and hungry gators. The film hits theaters, digital, and on demand outlets on July 14, and you can get an early look now by watching the new trailer below.
The film looks like a fun time for fans of eco-horror, and in particular, gator-based horror films. The official synopsis for The Flood is as follows:
"After a massive hurricane floods Louisiana, it unleashes a threat even deadlier than the rising water level: a relentless horde of giant hungry alligators. When a group of in-transit prisoners and their security guards seek shelter in a local prison, they become prey for the flesh-eating attackers.

"We're all going to get eaten alive!" Yes, yes they probably will. Saban Films has revealed the trailer for an action horror movie called The Flood, another of these junky direct-to-video B-movie horror flicks that seem to be popping up all the time now. It's from the same bad filmmaker who also made Battle For Saipan, also with Casper Van Dien, who is back again for this one. A horde of giant hungry alligators is unleashed on a group of in-transit prisoners and their guards after a massive hurricane floods Louisiana. Yes, this is the alligators-in-a-prison movie, if anyone wants to watch. Starring Casper Van Dien, Nicky Whelan, Louis Mandylor, Devanny Pinn, Ryan Francis, Randy Wayne, and Kim DeLonghi. This does not seem worth anyone's time or money - steer clear of this one, folks. There are plenty of other better giant alligator / croc movies to watch instead: Sewer Gators,...

Saban Films will release alligator horror movie The Flood this summer, and the official trailer has swam its way online this afternoon. And ya know, this one doesn’t look half bad!
The action-horror movie hits Theaters, On Demand and Digital on July 14, 2023. The premise suggests a Syfy-style monster movie – alligators inside a prison – but the execution looks a lot closer to Alexandre Aja’s Crawl than anything you’d find on the Syfy network.
And that’s a good thing. Chomp into the trailer for The Flood down below…
The Flood is directed by Brandon Slagle (Frost, The Dawn) and co-written by Chad Law (Section 8, Close Range, 6 Bullets) and Josh Ridgway (The Sector, Howlers).

Shane Dax Taylor’s 2023 action/thriller The Best Man stars Dolph Lundgren, Luke Wilson, Nicky Whelan, and a host of other stars, but it barely delivers on the promises. An age-old story about retribution during a happy occasion that makes the occasion go horribly wrong serves as the plot of the movie, and it goes exactly how you’d imagine. It’s sad to see Dolph’s caliber wasted downing drinks and shooting at enemies with no room for growth for him or any of the characters involved. Here’s the detailed recap and ending of The Best Man.
Spoilers Ahead
Plot Synopsis: What Happens In ‘The Best Man’?
A group of special ops agents rescues the daughter of a rich businessman from her kidnappers, and a year later, one of the rescuers is all set to marry the woman they rescued. In the secluded hotel where the wedding is about to take place,...

The Best Man is a film directed by Shane Dax Taylor starring Brendan Fehr, Dolph Lundgren and Luke Wilson.
The Best Man: an 80s style action movie that brings back some nostalgia, piety and the best feelings.
80s action returns to rescue one of its lesser-known myths, Dolph Lundgren.
One of those action movies in which, mysteriously, we all agree there’s something missing.
The Best Man Movie Review
The Best Man is one of those bad action movies, a B-series video store film from which, deep down, we still try to get something good, especially due to the nostalgia that Dolph Lundgren brings us and the Die Hard-style eighties classicism that the whole set exhales, from its borrowed script to its protagonists, who also seem taken from another era in which cinema, at least, seemed different.
This movie has the appealing of, with its 80s-vibes nostalgia, knowing how...

A year later that woman, Brook, is marrying Cal, one of the men who saved her. His cousin Bradley is the best man and another of the crew, Anders is also going to be there.
Brook’s father has rented a huge, remote resort for the ceremony, but they may have wished they chose a more urban location when a team of heavily armed wedding crashers show up.

Picking out the best Nicolas Cage movie can be fairly challenging, given the fact that the Hollywood star has starred in a diverse array of films of varying merit. Nothing short of a cultural tour-de-force, Nicolas Cage has managed to acquire a dedicated cult following over the years, whilst winning various accolades including an Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Golden Globe. However, when it comes to Cage, a string of offbeat roles granted him a bad movie streak. Seminal among these is Deadfall, Left Behind, and Pay The Ghost, among which the first two can be deemed as downright unwatchable.
Having said that, it is important to acknowledge that Cage is no stranger to portraying strong, complex characters, as evidenced in his revenge-fueled, yet pathos-inducing rendition of Red in Panos Cosmatos’ heavy metal valentine, Mandy. Underwhelming performances aside, there is a plethora of Cage films that deserve praise and consideration,...

"What are your daughter's lives worth to you?" Saban Films has launched an official trailer for an action thriller titled The Best Man, which is a bit of a goofy name for an intense action flick this. But maybe that will help make it stand out? Or not... In this gun-filled thriller, mercenaries seize control of a remote resort hotel during a wedding. It's now up to the best man, the groom and their drunken best friend to stop the terrorists and save the hostages. That pitch sounds like it's Die Hard meets The Hangover, but this trailer doesn't look like either of those at all. The Best Man stars Brendan Fehr, Nicky Whelan, Scout Taylor-Compton, Scott Martin, with Dolph Lundgren and Luke Wilson. What a strange cast. This film looks remarkably generic and bland, same as most action films do these days. It seems like they just took over...

Plot: A group of friends is stalked by a large shark whose only purpose is to kill.
Review: The fact that Maneater is a killer shark movie should already set your expectations right from the jump. I mean, when was the last time we had a good one? But that also means that most people going into this should have their expectations set low. In a lot of ways, this is what would happen if you gave Artificial Intelligence the task of making a killer shark movie. It hits all the moments you would expect it to and doesn’t deter once. But is that a good thing?

Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for Maneater, yet another new shark horror movie chomping its way onto screens this summer (along with The Reef: Stalked and Shark Bait). This is made by a B-movie director named Justin Lee, also director of this year's The Most Dangerous Game remake, which means this looks almost like an asylum remake of some of the other, much better shark attack movies. After an accident during their vacation getaway to an idyllic island paradise, a group of friends is stalked by a large shark. The cast includes Nicky Whelan, Trace Adkins, with Jeff Fahey and Shane West. The only good part about this trailer is the shot of the clearly rubber shark prop, the rest of it looks like VHS bargain bin trash. Which might be just the kind of shark movie some folks like.
