As Showtime Australia Head of International Independent Acquisitions & Australian Film Investment, former Variety Australian Reporter Mark Woods backed 30+ films including Golden Globe-nominated Rabbit Proof Fence, Cannes-selected Somersault and Japanese Story, Berlin-selected Alexandra's Project and Walking on Water, Venice-selected The Tracker, Sundance-selected Australian Rules, and box office hit Crackerjack, as well as annually acquiring 100+ completed international films.
When Screen Ireland CEO, projects Woods backed included Cannes Palme d'Or Winner The Wind That Shakes The Barley, Golden Globe-nominated Breakfast on Pluto, Oscar-winner Six Shooter, mini-series Showbands, and children's TV series Foreign Exchange.
Woods was also CEO of content attraction agency Ausfilm, when international productions in Australia included The Pacific, Superman Returns and Charlotte's Web, international production incentives were enhanced and a federal digital incentive introduced.
Woods was Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) Industry Director, managing Accelerator Lab for emerging directors (alumni includes directors of Snowtown, Animal Kingdom, 52 Tuesdays and JoJo Rabbit) and screen content financing event 37ºSouth Market plus serving as Executive Producer of MIFF Premiere Fund, which backed 110+ films many of which screened at A-list festivals including Sundance, Rotterdam, Berlinale, Cannes, Venice and Toronto.
