IMDbProStarmeterSee rank
The son of an American GI began his playing career during his school days at his hometown club, the "Kickers Offenbach". At the "Biberer Berg" he got his first Bundesliga license contract in 1972 at the age of 18. In 1974, after training as a mechanical engineer, he moved to TSV 1860 Munich, with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 1977. In 1979 he received his contract as a regular player for Hamburger SV, where he spent his most successful professional years until 1984. With HSV, Jimmy Hartwig won three German championship titles, played 47 European Cup games and won the European Cup for national champions in 1983. Under national coach Jupp Derwall, Hartwig wore the German national jersey a total of 16 times: These include two international matches for the senior national team, six appearances in the B squad and eight games in the Olympic selection under Erich Ribbeck.

After ending his career as a professional player, Hartwig initially worked as a coach at FC Sachsen Leipzig, among others. Shortly afterwards he retired from active sports. Hartwig started his second career as an actor and presenter. In August 1998 he put his football know-how at the service of the German sports television "DSF". After successful productions, Jimmy Hartwig was also appointed co-host of the DSF program "MITTENDRIN". In it, the former professional discussed what was happening around the "most important minor matter in the world" every Thursday evening during the Bundesliga season on Germany's only "sports call-in show". Outside of sport, Hartwig also celebrated success as a theater actor in classical roles. In 2002 and 2003 he played a supporting role in Berthold Brecht's Baal with Ben Becker at the German National Theater Weimar under the direction of Blixa Cash.

Hartwig became known to a large TV audience through the second season of the RTL reality show "I'm a Star - Get Me Out of Here" in 2004.
