Rian Johnson says Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Luke Skywalker is “100% consistent” with the Original Trilogy

Despite being almost a year on from its release, Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues to be a fiercely-debated topic among fans of the Star Wars franchise.

One of – if not the – most controversial aspects of the movie is the film’s handling of Luke Skywalker – and it’s not just fans who can’t let go of the subject either, as director Rian Johnson has interjected himself into a Twitter dispute about Luke’s characterisation, stating that it is “100% consistent” with the Original Trilogy.

Hot take: Luke is in fact 100% consistent with his character from the Ot. I’ll be at the bar if you need me.

Johnson’s comments are unlikely to do much to shift opinion at this point, and it seems clear by now that The

Star Wars 9 Actually Gives Hux Something Cool and Interesting to Do?

We've got an interesting rumor regarding the plot of Star Wars 9. This particular rumor has been floating around online for a little while now, but it seems to refuse to die. Whether or not it has any truth to it at this point is up in the air, as it has yet to be substantiated by anyone officially working for Lucasfilm, or anyone related to the production, remains to be seen. In any case, it looks like the First Order may have a traitor to deal with.

Warning: possible spoilers ahead for Star Wars 9. Since this isn't just a fan theory or something of the like, we must caution that this could spoil elements of the movie's plot, so those wanting to avoid spoilers may want to turn away. Also, again, it's merely a rumor for the time being and should be regarded as nothing more. That all having been said,

Rumour: Matt Smith playing a young Palpatine in Star Wars: Episode IX

Back in August it was announced that former Doctor Who star Matt Smith is heading to the galaxy far, far away for a role in Star Wars: Episode IX, and now we’ve got a rumour which claims that he’s set to portray a classic Star Wars villain.

According to the ‘Hot Scoop or Shot of Poop’ segment of The Weekly Planet Podcast (via ScreenRant), there’s talk that Smith is set to play a young version of Emperor Palpatine in the closing chapter of the Sequel Trilogy.

This isn’t the first time that Palpatine has been rumoured for Episode IX, as The Express previously reporting that Ian McDiarmid has been lined up to reprise his role from the Original and Prequel Trilogies, appearing as a projection to Kylo Ren.

It’s probably worth noting at this point that old Sheev has been rumoured for every Star Wars

Star Wars: Episode IX Rumor Suggests There’s A Traitor In The First Order

The events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi left The Resistance in a very fragile state, but the First Order isn’t exactly a model of stability these days either, with the sudden and unexpected death of Snoke opening up a leadership spot that was quickly claimed by the young and erratic Kylo Ren. When it comes to exuding an air of authority and confidence, this new Supreme Leader is no Darth Vader, lending credence to the persistent rumor that Star Wars: Episode IX will reveal a traitor in the First Order’s midst.

A report which sprang up a couple of months ago, but has lately been getting some renewed attention, asserts that Kylo suspects one of his subordinates to be sharing information with The Resistance, and that this leaker is none other than General Hux.

Disney and Lucasfilm viewing Star Wars: Episode IX as a “course correction” for the franchise

Although Disney has enjoyed enormous financial success with the Star Wars saga since its acquisition of Lucasfilm, things haven’t been going too smoothly as of late.

In December, the Mouse House released Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which – despite being a critical and commercial hit – proved to be hugely divisive amongst the fanbase, with many being very vocal in their criticism of the film and its narrative choices.

Fast forward five months, and the franchise suffered its first box office bust, as the spinoff movie Solo: A Star Wars Story went largely unnoticed by audiences. The film grossed just $392 million worldwide, forcing Disney and Lucasfilm to reassess the way that it is handling the saga and potentially leading to what Disney’s Bob Iger described as a Star Wars “slowdown”.

So far, the only Star Wars movie officially announced is Star Wars: Episode IX, and according to a report over at Variety,

Star Wars 9 Leak Exposes the Truth Behind Kylo Ren, Darth Vader and Sith Ghosts?

Star Wars 9 Leak Exposes the Truth Behind Kylo Ren, Darth Vader and Sith Ghosts?
We have ourselves one heck of a new rumor regarding Star Wars 9 that involves Kylo Ren and one of the most important characters in the history of the franchise. First off, we must caution that if you want to go into the movie clean as can be next year, it's time to turn away. Also, as always with stuff like this, it needs to be regarded as a rumor for the time being and shouldn't be taken as the word of law. That said, if there's any truth to this, it's pretty crucial.

Warning: potential spoilers ahead for Star Wars 9. According to an anonymous leaker in a new report, the upcoming finale to the new trilogy will see Kylo Ren coming face-to-face with none other than Darth Vader. While it won't be in the flesh, since Vader is long since dead, it's reportedly going to be in some sort of Force-fueled nightmare sequence,

Mark Hamill confirms that the force killed Luke in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Mark Hamill has confirmed that Luke died from using too much of the force in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

There’s no question that one of the most memorable moments of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and indeed the entire new trilogy so far, was Luke’s death after using a huge force power towards the end of the film.

Projecting his presence to fight Kylo Ren and provide a distraction for the Resistance, Luke then seemingly passed away. Some fans have debated exactly what transpired here but now Mark Hamill has confirmed himself via Twitter that it was the force that did Luke in:

“The Force Killed Luke. You have to acknowledge the irony in his fate. Almost like an addict that kicked his habit cold-turkey, remained clean for decades, only to re-use just once & then, tragically, overdoses.”

The Force Killed Luke. You have to acknowledge the irony in his fate.

Oscar Isaac discusses the relaxed nature of the Star Wars: Episode IX set

With Lucasfilm deep into production on next year’s Star Wars: Episode IX, Oscar Isaac has been chatting to IndieWire about his experience on the set of the final chapter of Disney’s Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, with the actor stating that the cast and crew are finding it a much more relaxed experience third time around.

“The way they’ve been shooting it right now is looser than it’s been for the last two times,” said Isaac. “It does feel like a relief to get on set and feel like, ‘Oh, we can try things.’ It’s a testament to J.J. Abrams coming back and feeling confident. There’s less pressure for it to be right. We just want to make a good movie and have a really good time while doing it. Often, you do feel like you’ve got to find your way to make something more alive,

Rumour: Emperor Palpatine returning in Star Wars: Episode IX?

You’ll want to have your pinch of salt ready for this one, but according to a report over at The Express, Ian McDiarmid may be set to reprise the role of Emperor Palpatine for a key scene in Star Wars: Episode IX.

According to a “leak” from an unnamed source (which further sets alarm bells ringing), “Emperor Palpatine will play a role in Episode IX. Specifically, Kylo Ren with an ignited lightsaber, presumably his cross-guard lightsaber, cutting through a blast door on some jungle planet and entering what appears to be a vault. Eventually Kylo Ren is holding a square object that projects a lifelike projection of Emperor Palpatine. Palpatine’s hand is raised in front of Kylo Ren showing blueprints or plans that could be a new weapon.”

Now, it’s certainly not beyond the realm of possibility that Palpatine could appear in such a manner, but Palpatine

Report claims Star Wars: The Last Jedi criticism was amplified by Russian bots and trolls

Not content with meddling in the U.S. Presidential Election, it seems that Russia and its cyber agents have also recently turned their attention to… the Star Wars saga?!

Well, that’s what a new report from Morten Bay of The University of Southern California claims, with Bay publishing a paper which alleges that half of the online criticism aimed at Rian Johnson over Star Wars: The Last Jedi was “political trolling, some of it likely from Russia.”

The report claims that much of the Episode VII abuse stemmed from “bots, trolls/sock puppets or political activists supporting extreme right-wing causes and the discrimination of gender, race or sexuality.”

Apparently the purpose of all this was to increase media coverage of the conflict within the fan community, “adding to and further propagating a narrative of widespread discord and dysfunction in American society [and] persuading voters of this narrative remains a strategic goal for the U.
