Film Review: ‘Samson’

Despite the limitations of their obviously limited budget, the makers of “Samson” strive mightily to provide the scope and sweep of an Old Hollywood biblical epic while offering their take on the classic tale about a mighty hero who falls from grace after a tonsorial malfunction. Unfortunately, there’s nothing miraculous about this latest product from Pure Flix Entertainment, an outfit that’s recently scored considerably greater success with such modern-day faith-based fare as “Woodlawn,” “God’s Not Dead” and “The Case for Christ.” Even if you’re willing to forgive the laughably fake beards, the unconvincing computer-generated imagery, and a man-versus-lion skirmish that might have embarrassed Ed Wood, the overall clunkiness of this enterprise may tempt you to shout rude things at the screen.

In the title role, British-born beefcake Taylor James certainly looks buff enough to pass muster as a divinely enhanced brawler, most notably when Samson lays waste to scores of Philistine soldiers while armed

Epic Official Trailer for Biblical 'Samson' Movie Featuring Billy Zane

"Remember the prophecy..." PureFlix has unveiled a trailer for the new religious propaganda movie called Samson, an epic cinematic version of the Samson and Delilah story from the bible. Normally we wouldn't post trailers for these kinds of religious films, but I'm making an exception for this because it has such a wildly fun cast - Billy Zane as King Balek, Jackson Rathbone as Rallah, plus Rutger Hauer & Lindsay Wagner as Samson's father & mother, Manoah and Zealphonis. The movie stars newcomer Taylor James as the Hebrew hero, with Caitlin Leahy as Delilah. This movie looks crazy epic with huge VFX and big sets, even though it was independently financed. The story follows a young Hebrew with supernatural strength who defends his people, sacrificing everything to avenge his love, his people, and his God. Yeah, sounds fun. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Bruce Macdonald & Gabriel Sabloff's Samson, direct from

The Legendary Biblical Story of Samson Comes To Life in a New Film and Here's The Trailer

I've actually always liked the story of Samson in the bible. It kind of had a comic book type feel to it as it dealt with a super-powered human with super strength. As a kid, who was into comic books, I loved that kind of stuff! The dude killed over a thousand men with the jawbone of an ass!

Well, for those of you who went to Sunday School, you might be interested in watching this trailer for a new film that tells the story of Samson. For those of you who aren't familiar with the story, here's a brief synopsis:

Brigitte Nielsen has been cast in “Adi Shankar’s Gods and Secrets” superhero-themed TV action series, taking over the villain role vacated by Mark Salling, who was indicted last year for receiving and possessing child pornography.

Shankar, who is independently producing the half-hour show, told Variety that Nielsen plays a “modified version” of Salling’s character. The director re-shot scenes with the Danish-born thesp earlier this month and said “Gods and Secrets” is now in post-production.

“I just kind of reached out to her,” Shankar said, saying he’s been in touch with Nielsen ever since he was trying to put together an all-female movie adaptation of “The Expendables” five years ago.

Nielsen’s casting in “Gods and Secrets” was confirmed by her rep at Henderson Represents Inc. She’s perhaps best known for her turns in ’80s movies “Rocky IV,” “Red Sonya” and “Beverly Hills Cop II.”

Re-shooting the scenes with Nielsen required bringing back other
