TV Show Series Review: Hawaii Five-0

  • PopStar
The new Hawaii Five-0 (TV) shares a lot with it's namesake classic TV parent, but as it was billed, this isn't your mom's Five-0! After 42 years, the show that coined the term "book'em Danno" returns with a lot more high octane action and flat-out sex appeal. The names may be the same, but the characters couldn't be more different. After the death of his father, Lt. Commander Steven J. McGarrett (Alex O'loughlin) is forced to return home to Oahu, an island he left behind as a teenager, to face a host of old ghosts while searching for the killer. For McGarrett, this is all that is on his radar, and he has little use or interest in making friends. Unfortunately, in order to work his father's case, he's got to work with Honolulu Pd, wherein he comes face-to-gun with a fast talking, island-hating New Jersey transplant, Detective Danny Williams (Scott Caan

The Amazing Race Ep. 20.11, “It’s a Great Place to Become a Millionaire”: A grueling, fast-paced finale delivers a tight finish

The Amazing Race Review, Season 20, Episode 11

“It’s a Great Place to Become a Millionaire”

Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS

In an unpredictable competition like The Amazing Race, it’s tricky to craft a final leg that provides a satisfying finish. The result often comes down to choosing the right taxi, which isn’t exciting for anyone but the winners. This season has included one of the most dominant teams in the show’s history. Dave and Rachel’s win this week isn’t surprising, but this is no cakewalk. The final leg includes difficult tasks that require both strength and skill. They even face a stunning rejection from Phil at the finish, but that only delays the victory. A directional mistake gives Art and Jj a great chance, which creates surprising tension. Despite their bickering, Dave and Rachel keep it together and roll through the final challenges for the win.

Episode Recap: Hawaii Five-0 - 2.20: "Ha'alele"

  • PopStar
Sometimes, you just have to let your supporting characters shine. And there is no better example than giving a highly character-driven storyline to a secondary, yet beloved character like Max Bergman (Masi Oka). Back story, angst, and a little bit of suspense all rolled into a nicely done episode that stood on its own despite the lack of it's leading man, Alex O'loughlin. The facts are these: In an opening teaser that could have been snatched from any one of the multitude of Scream movies, a young girl is plucked from her broken-down car on the side of road in North Shore. She's found dead in a pineapple field later, and there are tell-tale signs on the body that disturbs Max greatly. Meanwhile, Steve has left Danny (Scott Caan) a "Dear Danno" letter explaining that he's got to don his Lone Ranger hat once again to seek his father's killer,

Episode Recap: Hawaii Five-0 - 2.18: "Lekio"

  • PopStar
Life in Hawaii Five-0 world doesn't get much better than when you get someone like James Caan to guest star. And not only was it hilarious, but his character didn't eat up the scenes or get in the way. He worked *with* the story line, had a valued part in the investigation, and when everything is right in the universe, *this* is how you use a guest star with some oomph behind him. I very much hope Caan Sr. shows up again. The facts are these: Bobby Raines (Dennis Miller) is a loud-mouthed, pull no punches radio host who broadcasts to his acolytes from his boat offshore. Bobby Raines then goes Boom. Literally. He gets the Rick Springfield treatment, but hey, at least they spent time plugging James Caan and not so much on Dennis Miller that I don't feel too bad when he dies before the opening credits roll.
