You see it often. The “successful” children leave to start families of their own and the so-called “donkeys” (or khotas in the case of this Punjabi household) are left caring for the parents that were hard enough on them to make the level of compassion necessary to do so tough to understand. Mona (Agam Darshi) was the black sheep in many ways growing up. She was the artistic type. The rebel. The “lesser” twin. Growing up in a Sikh home with a demanding father (Marvin Ishmael) and more pliable and obedient siblings meant discipline, screaming, and beatings. So why did she stay? Why nurse him through seven years of cancer? Love is complicated.

So too is Darshi’s directorial debut Donkeyhead. Her Mona is a failed writer (the details of which come out during the course of the film) living at home with her ailing father, desperate to finally win his affection.

Ava DuVernay’s Array Releasing has acquired award-winning feature films “Definition Please” and “Donkeyhead” and will debut them on Netflix.

Array has acquired distribution rights to both films in the U.S., U.K., Australia and New Zealand, with the additional territory of Canada for “Definition Please,” and will debut them on Jan. 21 on Netflix.

Both films are by South Asian origin female actor-filmmakers making their feature directorial debuts and who also star in them. “Definition Please” is by Sujata Day, whose acting credits include HBO’s “Insecure” and she directed and starred in short “Cowboy and Indian,” which is now being developed as a series.

The company has acquired distribution rights to both films in the U.S., UK, Australia and New Zealand, with the additional territory of Canada for Definition Please. “Crisis on Infinite Earths” finally returns to our screens in less than a week, with the final two parts of the ginormous Arrowverse crossover airing on The CW next Tuesday. To mark its arrival, the network released a new poster for the event a couple of days ago that gave us our first look at Oliver Queen in his latest guise. Once again, he’s had to become something else, someone else. No, not the Green Arrow, but supernatural superhero the Spectre.

The merging of the Emerald Archer and the avenging spirit has been a highly anticipated development of the climax of “Crisis,” but now that we’ve seen him in costume as the Spectre, not all fans are blown away by his look. Sure, it’s awesome that Ollie’s alive again, but couldn’t they have made his new suit a bit… better?

After a month’s break, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” is finally set to return in exactly one week’s time. And ahead of the conclusion of the mega DC TV event, The CW has now dropped yet another poster for the crossover.

As well as bringing the Arrowverse’s heroes together, it’s most notable for giving us our first look at Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen in his new guise as the Spectre. Overlooking the Super-Friends, meanwhile, is the evil Anti-Monitor (Lamonica Garrett).

The very first episode of “Crisis on Infinite Earths” killed off Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen, with the Emerald Archer sacrificing his life in order to save a million extra people from the dying Earth-38. However, this being the DC universe, it’s likely not the end of the Green Arrow. Something that’s heavily teased in this new trailer for Part 4, which arrives on The CW in a few weeks.

The 30-second promo sets up the high-stakes new status quo: with just a handful of heroes still alive in the multiverse, they’re now giving the evil Anti-Monitor (Lamonica Garrett) all they’ve got. And, somehow, they’ll be joined by the late Oliver. In one clip, we see him throwing punch after punch at an unknown enemy – this doesn’t seem to be the Anti-Monitor, either – with the voiceover featuring the vigilante saying: “My entire life prepared me for this fight.

There’s been some discussion from fans about whether too much has been revealed in the run-up to “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” With the Arrowverse crossover due to see the entire multiverse at threat, many iconic faces from across DC history are dropping by for either key supporting roles or cameos. A significant number have been already officially confirmed, too, which has left some upset that these surprises have been spoiled.

But maybe we don’t have anything to worry about, as Ep Marc Guggenheim has now promised that there’s plenty more where they came from. In an interview with IndieWire, the producer revealed that there are at least six surprise characters involved in the first three episodes of the event alone that fans have no idea about.

“I like how there are at least six characters who appear in the first three hours that we haven’t announced.

Not only will “Crisis on Infinite Earths” be bringing together virtually every familiar face in the Arrowverse, but it’ll also introduce a couple of new heroes, as well. Osric Chau is joining the franchise, for instance, as Ryan Choi Aka the second Atom, while Stephen Lobo is also being brought on board to play cop Jim Corrigan, who’s destined to become the supernatural superhero the Spectre. Speaking of which, The CW has just revealed our first look at the character.

Around since the Golden Age, Corrigan’s story usually involves him being murdered on the job and then resurrected when he becomes the host for an all-powerful spirit of vengeance known as the Spectre. This image only shows us Corrigan in his human form, so it seems as if he’s not the Spectre by the time “Crisis” begins. However, the odds are high that he’ll perish...

Though the inclusion of the Spectre in the upcoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event should’ve been obvious to all, it’s not something I’d really thought much about until this week. After all, one can’t be too sure of which DC Comics characters The CW will gain license to, but now we know we’ll be given yet another nod to the rich source material.

Earlier this week, Arrow star Stephen Amell dropped a cryptic Tweet causing some to speculate that he would indeed wind up playing the Spectre himself. As it turns out, we didn’t need to wait very long at all for the matter to be cleared up, for another actor has landed the gig.

Supernatural vet Stephen Lobo joins the Crisis as potentially one of its pivotal characters: the Spectre.

Big casting news out of the Crisis team, as it was announced today that Stephen Lobo of Supernatural fame would be joining the enormous CW DC crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths. His character is a very interesting choice.

According to IGN, Lobo will be playing Jim Corrigan. Corrigan was introduced in 1942, in the aptly named More Fun Comics, where he was murdered on his way to his own engagement party, stuffed in a barrel of concrete, and tossed in a river. He was sent back to Earth to exact vengance on his murderers and...wait a second is he just Spawn?

"Lost Hours" is the premiere episode of the fourth season of the Canadian TV series Continuum, and the series' 37th episode overall. The secrets we keep mold us into ways we never imagine. As much as the sci-fi series Continuum is about time-travel and time-loops, it is also a series about secrets and trust. Unaware that his partner has been sent back in time to apprehend a ruthless bunch of activists known as Liber8, Detective Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster) is never exactly sure why he trusts Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols) so completely. He knows with every fiber of his being that she is lying to him and keeps secrets from him, and he would not be a cop without such finely-tuned instincts. Portraying the conflicted Carlos is Victor Webster. In an exclusive interview, Victor candidly talked about the trust issues between Carlos and Kiera and how that has ripple-effects throughout the upcoming second season of Continuum.

Has Syfy found a big ratings hit with Continuum or will the show fade away like so many others? We'll have to wait and see how it does.

Continuum typically airs on Monday nights and there are 10 episodes. The show features the talents of Rachel Nichols, Victor Webster, Erik Knudsen, and Stephen Lobo.

The first season of Continuum concludes tonight on Syfy, but before we see how it ends, we caught up with creator and executive producer Simon Barry and stars Rachel Nichols (Kiera Cameron) and Victor Webster (Carlos Fonnegra) to speak about tonight’s finale, themes and developments in Season 1 and what they’ll mean going forward into Season 2.

BuzzFocus: My first question is for Victor, when you first took on this role, maybe you thought it’s a leading man and then you find out that your character’s the one that’s kind of being saved a lot by Kiera, talk about maybe that role reversal element that makes this Continuum so unique.

Victor Webster: We kind of take all the stereotypes that have been played out in other TV shows and we kind of flip them right on their ear. So whereas the male character might be the leading man saving the woman,...

The much-deserved success of Being Human and Lost Girl have amplified the supernatural factor on the Syfy network, which used to be the home for science fiction buffs. Lately, it has struggled to keep the core audience interested in Alphas and Eureka but consider Continuum, Syfy’s mea culpa.

Continuum is a science fiction series about a revolution, spearheaded by a group of rebels calling themselves Liber8, charged for terrorism in Vancouver in the year 2077, but escape their sentence by time traveling to 2012 where they can rewrite history and right the wrongs of the future. Also sent back to 2012 is Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols), a protector (futuristic law enforcer) who gets caught in the teleportation. Continuum is another Canadian sci-fi success story.

Showcase has announced that the second season of its internationally popular sci-fi series Continuum will premiere on Sunday April 21. Fans can watch an announcement about the second season by star Rachel Nichols on showcase.ca.

Continuum stars Nichols as Kiera Cameron, a cop from the future who inadvertently gets sent back in time in pursuit of a group of convicted terrorists. The group, called Liber8, escapes its future fate with the aid of a time travel device. In present day Vancouver Kiera joins forces with detective Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster; Castle) to track down the terrorists before they change the course of history. In the process she is helped by teen tech genius Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen; Scream 4), who comes to realize that his future self has an instrumental role in the time travel incident that will bring the terrorists and Kiera back through time.

Big congrats to all the Leo nominees this year!

The nominations were announced earlier today. Sanctuary, Arctic Air, Endgame and Blackstone are up for Best Dramatic Series and all five films nominated for Best Feature Length Drama have familiar faces in them: Daydream Nation (Luke Camilleri, Calum Worthy, Genevieve Buechner), Doppelgänger Paul (Ben Cotton), Marilyn (Ryan Robbins), Sisters & Brothers (Kacey Rohl, Michael Eklund, Ben Cotton), and The Odds (Calum Worthy).

Sisters & Brothers nabbed 12 nominations, Hamlet (with Peter Wingfield) and Marilyn have eight each, Sunflower Hour (with Kacey Rohl and Ben Cotton) has seven, Donovan's Echo (with Hiro Kanagawa) has six, Daydream Nation and Doppelgänger Paul five each, The Odds has four, and Everything and Everyone (with Ryan Robbins) and Hannah's Law (with Ryan Kennedy and John Pyper-Ferguson, to be aired in June) scored two each.

The big news that every site reported in a slightly different way is that Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome will be a digital series and a TV film, but not a TV show, at least not one produced by Syfy/Universal Cable Prods. You have probably read the Deadline article by now.

With the possibility that Universal may still shop B&C around, it doesn't sound like they have any immediate plans to make more of it beyond the existing pilot/web series/Mow.

No word yet on a release date, but Battlestar Wiki reports that we'll be seeing Blood & Chrome as a web series first and then as a TV movie.

Arctic Air premieres at 9 pm on CBC tonight. A bunch of Caprica and BSG actors are either regulars or recurring guest stars: Carmen Moore, Michael Hogan, Leah Gibson, Kandyse McClure, Brian Markinson and Aleks Paunovic. There might be more of them as the season progresses.

Stained is an indie picture developed from three different production companies (Angel Entertainment, Opiate Pictures, Goonworks Films). This is director Karen Lam's first feature. And while the first two thirds of the film is struggling to finds its legs, the final third makes up for some slow pacing earlier. There are a few surprises here as well. The only question is: will viewers be able to make it all the way to the end? Stained has just been released this month on video-on-demand and this reviewer would only give this film a tepid recommend.

The story focuses almost exclusively and to its own detriment on Isabelle (Tinsel Korey). Isabelle is a youngish woman who owns a small bookstore in what looks like Saskatoon, Sk, based on this reviewer's travels there.
