Batman Wants To Be An Avenger In Hilarious New Conan Spoof

2018 marks the fourth year that Conan O’Brien has brought his TBS late night talk show to San Diego Comic-Con. Taped at the historic Spreckels Theater, the crimson-haired host will be sitting down with the cast of Glass today and Aquaman Sunday, having already chatted with the cast of Breaking Bad on Wednesday and The Predator stars on Thursday. So make sure you’re tuning in if you haven’t been already.

Never short on a high profile cameo, or topical spoof, Conan may not be as well versed in the superhero arena as his crowd, but O’Brien doesn’t let that get in the way of making an apt observation on the current state of comic book cinema. And so far, this year has been no different.

The late night host kicked-off his first 2018 Comic-Con episode by poking fun at the financial and critical disparity between the Marvel

‘Under the Silver Lake’ Review: Andrew Garfield Soars in Baffling and Inventive L.A. Noir About White Male Privilege

‘Under the Silver Lake’ Review: Andrew Garfield Soars in Baffling and Inventive L.A. Noir About White Male Privilege
It takes about an hour before someone in “Under the Silver Lake” puts the movie’s labyrinthine trajectory in perspective. “There’s an entire generation of men obsessed with video games and secret codes,” he says. Indeed: In David Robert Mitchell’s baffling and often brilliant L.A. neo-noir, Sam (Andrew Garfield) stumbles through a convoluted mystery where the puzzle pieces lead back to his own obsessions.

Like Mitchell’s two other features, “Under the Silver Lake” transforms a familiar genre into a unique context, in this case channeling the shaggy-dog detective story into the ambivalence of a millennial who keeps losing the narrative thread of his own life. The movie personifies the male gaze, but it’s also conspicuously about that, deconstructing privilege more than lingering in its confines.

After all, this is the story of a philandering white guy whose obsession with his sultry neighbor Sarah (Riley Keough

‘Under The Silver Lake’ Film Review: Andrew Garfield Lives Dirtbag Dream in La Story

‘Under The Silver Lake’ Film Review: Andrew Garfield Lives Dirtbag Dream in La Story
How’s this for irony? Those very same qualities that allow “Under The Silver Lake” to so thoroughly evoke both the city of Los Angeles and a certain Angelino lifestyle also turn the film into a bit of a mess. Sprawling, indulgent and with many pockets of pleasure, David Robert Mitchell ‘s film – which premiered Tuesday night in Cannes – is L.A. in the same way that “Apocalypse Now” was Vietnam.

Think of it as “Ready Stoner One,” as it wrangles a rather overwhelming compendium of references, easter-eggs and winks to some of the foundational texts of contemporary millennial culture and offers them as clues in a Galaxy Brain conspiracy.

Channeling Shaggy from “Scooby-Doo,” Andrew Garfield stars as Sam, a grade-a underachiever living the dirtbag dream in (where else but) the city’s Eastside hipster neighborhood of Silver Lake. Rent is long past due and the threat of eviction looms alarmingly close,

‘Under the Silver Lake’ Trailer Showcases ‘It Follows’ Director’s Sophomore Effort

A24 has released the first trailer for the upcoming neo-noir Under the Silver Lake. The film serves as the follow-up to writer/director David Robert Mitchell‘s It Follows, and stars Andrew Garfield in the lead role. Under the Silver Lake follows Sam (Garfield), a disenchanted 30-something who discovers a mysterious woman (Riley Keough) in his apartment building. He she mysteriously vanishes, Sam embarks on a quest through Los Angeles to find her.

Although the tone of this trailer feels Very different to that of It Follows, I’m glad that Mitchell is getting the chance to spread his wings a little bit for his follow-up to that film. Based on this trailer, it surely looks promising. In addition to Garfield and Keough, the film features Jimmi Simpson, Topher Grace, Callie Hernandez, Summer Bishil, Riki Lindhome, and Zosia Mamet. Under the Silver Lake opens in theaters on June 22nd, 2018. Here’s the trailer,

‘Another Period’ Star Riki Lindhome on Getting Political, Strong Female Leads

‘Another Period’ Star Riki Lindhome on Getting Political, Strong Female Leads
Riki Lindhome gained exposure as half of the comedy music duo Garfunkel and Oates before hosting the Nerdist podcast “Making It.” She stars alongside Natasha Leggero in Comedy Central’s “Another Period,” which returns for season three Jan. 23. Lindhome and Leggero co-created the series, which they describe as a period sitcom at the intersection of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “Downton Abbey.”

Where did you draw inspiration for the third season of “Another Period”?

We continually draw inspiration from “The Real Housewives,” because if you take whatever they do and put it in the Gilded Age, it becomes funny. Also the current political climate has been a big part of the new season.

Has the Donald Trump/post-Harvey Weinstein era changed the show’s direction?

In our writers room during the election, we were planning this one political thing, then the election went a different way than we thought and we had to start over. As

‘Another Period’: Natasha Leggero & Riki Lindhome on Why the Bad Girls of 1900 Are More Relevant Than Ever in 2018
When it came to making “Another Period’s” third season, creators Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome acknowledged that they ended up needing a little extra time to finish writing the season because the 2016 election derailed things a bit.

“Two-thirds the way through the writers’ room, Trump was elected,” Leggero said.

“We have so many intelligent writers on our staff,” Lindhome said, “and we were talking, you know, before Trump was elected, we’re like, well, you know, we really need to think where are people going to be at in six months,” she said. “And one of our writers was like, well, you know, we’re going to have a woman President, and I think there’s going to be a lot of backlash. And so we were like, yeah, you’re right. So we really were writing for this future where men are pissed because a woman is President,

‘Big Bang Theory’ New Boss on Sheldon’s Proposal, Amy’s Answer & Chuck Lorre’s Advice

‘Big Bang Theory’ New Boss on Sheldon’s Proposal, Amy’s Answer & Chuck Lorre’s Advice
When CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” wrapped last season, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) was making some big changes — specifically proposing to his girlfriend, Amy (Mayim Bialik).

But behind the scenes, the show went through some changes as well: Steve Holland, who first joined the writers room in 2009, stepped up to take the reins as showrunner after Steve Molaro shifted to the network’s new spin-off, “Young Sheldon.”

“In taking over as showrunner, my least concern is putting my stamp on the show,” Holland tells Variety. “These characters, over 10 seasons, have honestly grown and changed and taken on a life of their own, and my job here is to honor and protect these characters.”

When Holland first talked with series co-creator Chuck Lorre about season 11, one of the things he admits to being concerned about was what stories there could be left to tell. But with Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) being new parents, as
